10-Jul-2022:
Started an online application form on the government website, completed Part-A and Part-B. Sourced all the mandatory documents before starting the process which made the application process relatively easy. Pls note- Some of the documents require notary attestation, so plan well in advance

11-Jul-2022:
Downloaded the checklist of documents that needs to be sent from the VFS Global website & arranged them in order of the checklist.

12-Jul-2022:
Mailed the entire set of documents and with the checklist as the cover. Photographs of kid was also attached to the application using a U-pin (make sure you don’t paste/affix the photograph). We opted for the two-way Fedex courier labels which is the default option on the VFS global website for OCI applications

14-Jul-2022:
Received an email – “We have ‘Received’ your Application and your application is now ‘Under Process’ at Chicago and will be submitted to the Mission for decision making. Upon checking the VFS global website using the ‘Track and Trace’ page, the message stated – “Your application is being verified and currently under process at the VFS Indian Consular Application Center”

15-Jul-2022:
Received an email – “Your Application has been ‘Processed’ at the VFS India Consular application Centre and currently is ‘In-Transit‘ to the Embassy of India/Consulate General of India for decision making.

16-Jul-2022:
Upon checking the Online OCI Services website – ‘Status Enquiry’ link, it shows the application name, file reference number, date of acknowledgment (16-Jul-2022 in my case), registration missing, OCI Application status = ‘Under Process’

08-Aug-2022:
OCI STATUS REPORT page was updated with OCI Number and ‘Document Printing Status’ showed PROCESSED on 08-Aug-2022

09-Aug-2022:
Received an email - “Your Application has been reviewed by the Embassy of India/ Consulate General of India & will be dispatched using the courier service you had opted.”
Upon checking the VFS Global Website using the ‘Track and Trace’ feature ,the status got updated to “Your document (s) is dispatched using the return label purchased or sent by you. If using VFS courier, please check for email from "[email protected]" for details. If you have used your prepaid label, then track the status via the website of the concerned service provider.

09-Aug-2022:
Fedex Shipment number and tracking id numbers were generated and an email was received on my registered email id.

10-Aug-2022:
Received OCI card at my residence 😊 just before India’s 75th Independence Day

Total Process time – Exactly 1 month [little over ~4 weeks].
Thoroughly impressed by the speed of the process from the Indian Government. Kudos! Jai Hind!

June 24 - Application sent to VFS through FedEx
June 28 - VFS received application
July 01 - Application processed at VFS and sent to Embassy for decision making
July 05 - Date of acknowledgment from NY Consulate. Status is "Under Process"
July 25 - Documents printing status - processed. (OCI number generated)
July 27 - FedEx shipment notification
July 28 - OCI Document received.

My dad recently became naturalized in the US. He holds an OCI under his UK passport. I was wondering if I have to start a new application for him or if could do it under miscellaneous services. I know he can still go on his UK passport but if he ever wanted to what can he do?

Hi, I was about to send my daughter OCI packet to VFS for processing, but I an little confused if at any point during the process I need to send her US passport to VFS for OCI sticker etc.

We are planning to visit India this summer so I would like to avoid any conflict with the visit and the OCI process.

Hi Guys, my wife just got her OCI today and although the documents states our current street address and apartment number, it doesnt note our city or the state. This is the info on the last page of the OCI doc. Any one has any experience with this? We are bound to leave the country for India soon.
Regardless, here is our timeline for NYC which was very quick:

5/21/2022: Fedex sent to VFS
5/23/2022: "Under process"
6/13/2022: Status updated on the govt website to show processed and OCI number generated.
6/16/2022: Received OCI card via Fedex.

05/19/2022: Fedexed OCI application to VFS
05/20/2022: VFS received documents
05/25/2022: VFS completed verification and shipped to NY consulate. NY consulate received/acknowledged. Status: under process
06/16/2022: Document printing status: processed. OCI number assigned
06/17/2022: OCI document shipped from VFS. Fedex tracking provided.
06/20/2022: OCI received
