PIO Card

Please update if anyone has received PIO card so far which has been submitted on Oct 27/28th. Because mine was submitted to embassy on oct 28th. So far oct 24th is approved I believe from all the posts below. Keeping my fingers crossed as my travel date is Dec 3rd.

My PIO dated 10/24 has been approved yesterday and I have collected it from CKGS during the pick up time yesterday as my travel is on 11/21.

My trip to CKGS to withdraw PIO has not helped in any way.

Applied for PIO endorsements for my daughters as their US passport was renewed along with a new application for my wife on 11/7 and the entry date for my wife is 11/10 and one of my daughters and 11/8 for the other one. Was told that some documents were missing for my daughters and I sent it on 11/12 that they received on 11/14. Now the updates say that it has been sent to the Embassy. How long will they take - according to CKGS it is 4-6 weeks.

We are traveling on 11/27 - should I go to SFO (live in LA)? Will that be useful? Is there anything that can be done to get the PIO now? We are very worried.

Any suggestions would be great

I am travelling to India on 23rd Nov.. and i was worried.. but i got my daughter PIO Approval today .. thank god .

I submitted my daughter application on 27th nov 2014 to ckgs sfo.

they send it to indian embassy on 11/03/2014.

There is no movement after this , I am travelling on 10th dec 2014 .
what do you guys think i should wait more or start working on emergency visa?

There are some updates this week saying SFO Consulate are short of PIO cards to print. There was no movement since 11/10.

Today I see one application approved and updated.

Not sure SFO Consulate received the PIO cards for rest of us waiting to travel or just few. Mine was sent to SFO Consulate on 11/29. I have tickets booked for 11/26 which is non refundable.

Please update if you get your PIO. That will help us to predict our luck.

My perspective on CKGS changed after going there in person. They are way different than on phone. They can get the most accurate response from consulate if you go there in person.

Consulate has some issues currently with PIO cards not available to print and such. I went there(CKGS) with my infant and tried withdrawing my passport and applying for an emergency/urgent VISA. That is when the manager at CKGS made the consulate deliver an immediate response on the current status. I even got my PIO and Passport same day (pickup) due to the final stages of my application maybe. Applied 10/24.

Here are some things I learned :
Never trust the lower of the estimates. 4~6 weeks can be 6 weeks or more sometimes. Plan accordingly.
SFO CKGS hands out 60 emergency/urgent tickets early in the morning (0900 AM) but lines start as early as 0430AM so 60 tickets are not available at 0900 AM if you be there at 0900 AM. Death emergency requests can be handled out still and don't count towards the 60 count.
There is some motor inn near by consulate which is about $70 per night with parking and breakfast. Great for those travelling for Consulate general/CKGS affairs.
CKGS is very efficient when you go there in person. Indian consulate, not sure but phone experience ranges from good to worst. Call consulate 2-4pm.
PIO is not a card and is a passport like booklet with parent's name on the document. US passport don't list our names on child's passport.

Here is experience for my Daughter's PIO. I have a travel plan in December 1st week and was actually worries reading reviews from other users that it is taking almost 4 weeks to get the PIO. But I am probably lucky as the PIO status changed today. Here are the details:

Looks like the NY consulate has processed PIO cards till 11/05. Hopefully they will retain the momentum going into the thanksgiving holidays.
