Citizenship Retest.
Dear forumites,
I need your experiences and help in the following case:
I had my interview in January. I got at the end a letter telling that you passed your civics and English reading-writing tests. You need to improve your English understanding. So we will arrange your retest in 60 days.
I got my retest scheduled on May second weak. It states that you have to come for English and civic tests.
In this scenario, I want to know they will conduct the retest like the first one or only English understanding test!. Remeber they have given me in writing that I have cleared these two tests in my first interview. I could not reply in my first interview some meanings like 'parol' and 'prison camp' of my N400 form as I had trouble in understanding the IO assets.
Please help me to clear my retest.
Regards.
Ramirez

SF Bay area, passport received
Apr 3, 2019 - Filed N-400 online with my wife, GK 5 years. Expected completion date - April 2020.
Jan 13, 2020 - Interview taken. The oath for my wife scheduled immediately for Feb 12, for me scheduled 2 weeks later for the same date, Feb 12.
Feb 12, 2020 - Oath taken. 10 months 10 days from the beginning to the end. Applied for expedited passport right after the ceremony. Expected delivery date - 2-3 weeks.
Feb 21, 2021 - Passports received today by Fedex, less than 10 days after the oath.

We had 20 trips, 891 days outside the US in 5 years before filing N-400, very close to the limit of 913 days. Then we had one trip 93 days after filing. It concerned us a lot before the interview since the IO has the right to make their own decision about eligibility. Yet no questions asked about it for both of us.

But my IO asked me many questions about my membership in the communist party in my country which ended 30 years ago. He also asked questions about my 3-year mandatory military service in my country 50 years ago. It didn't prevent me from getting the citizenship but it might had been the reason why I received the oath invitation 2 weeks later than my wife.

Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Good luck to all of you, guys!

Decision can not yet be made N400
Before the naturalization interview, the IO told me that he can not make a decision today because he doesn't have my A file on hand. He said he would just review the N400 and give me the test. I passed the civic and English test. But can't get decision. Has anyone had similar experience? Why would they schedule my interview without having my file. So frustrating.

My Successful Citizenship Interview
The interview was around 20 to 25 minutes, and it was just like a casual talk. I was lucky to have a friendly and professional interviewer. He started with the civics questions, and after the six questions, the interviewer proceeded to the writing and reading test. Then he asked questions with regards to the application. The questions were only yes or no responses...there was no vocabulary meaning being asked but I was also ready in case I will be asked about those N-400 word definitions. After that, he approved my U.S. citizenship application form. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I never expected!

These were the following questions that he asked me on the civics exam:
1. What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?
2. Name the U.S. war between the North and the South.
3. What is the capital of your state?
4. What is one thing Benjamin Franklin is famous for?
5. Name two national holidays.
6. Why did the colonists fight the British?

On the reading section:
When is Columbus Day?
On the writing section:
Columbus Day is in October

He didn't ask anything about my marriage certificate, kids' birth certificate, tax papers, or anything else. But, I still recommend that you bring them just to be safe. You don't want your application to be delayed so it's advisable that you simply bring them. They only asked for my passport, green card and any state issued ID that I had. I keep on reading a lot of shared experiences here and I think it was so helpful. I also subscribed to Youtube channels that I thought had tremendously helped me pass the interview and test too. I subscribed to U.S. Citizenship Help Guide, Kate Lalit and Essa Group. Thanks again and I hope that you will also pass the interview and test!
