Chicago Filer
Hello everyone!

I had my interview last July 23rd 2019 and I was recommended for approval. However, my status didnt changed at all. Last October 14 I received an update, it said that " YOU ATTENDED YOUR INTERVIEW" which doesn't make sense because I went for my interview last July 23rd. I called the USCIS hotline and they were also confused. It's almost 5 months now and still I didnt get any letter or an update from USCIS. I just dont know what to do. :-( :-( Any advise please!

Thank you!

US Citizenship Application experience - Really fast
I filed for my US Citizenship application on Sep 10th 2019 together with my wife. My wife and I have both passed the citizenship interview to date and are waiting for the dates to be mailed out for our oath ceremony. My wife and I applied at the New Hampshire office and below is the timeline of different milestones and the dates from the time we applied

September 10, 2019 We received your application
September 14, 2019 We scheduled your biometrics appointment
October 1, 2019 We reviewed your biometrics
October 30, 2019 We scheduled your interview
December 9, 2019 You attended your interview
December 9, 2019 We approved your application

Biometrics Experience : The process was really simple. We had to go through a security check after which we were escorted into a room. After checking our biometrics appointment letter and green card, we had our biometrics done where they took our fingerprints and that was it. We were also provided with a book to study for the US Citizenship Civis test at the time of the citizenship interview. We were out of the office within 30 minutes.

Preparing for the Citizenship interview: If you have studied the 100 questions from the book provided at the biometrics, you will be well prepared for the Civics test at the citizenship interview. There is also an app on the USCIS website that you can download and keep practicing on whenever you have some time which was quite helpful for me to study for the test. I used the app, the booklet and also some videos on USCIS website on how the interview process takes place which I found quite helpful. Below is the link to the same which has helpful.

Citizenship Interview Experience: The citizenship experience was very pleasant. The lady who conducted our interview (my wife had her interview first followed by me). My wife was done with her interview within 30 minutes and mine seemed even less. After swearing me in on entering the room, the lady started asking me civics questions. I got the first 6 right and she stopped and asked me to read a sentence that was shown to me on a tablet. After doing so, she asked to me write a sentence she read to me on the tablet with my finger which I did. She then proceeded to ask me questions from my application form to ensure that my answers were consistent with what was written on the application form. After she was done, she told me that I had passed the test and would be sent a letter home indicating when the Oath ceremony would take place. By the time we came home and logged into my USCIS account the status already indicated that we were approved and the oath ceremony date would be sent by mail to us.

I am waiting to get the letter indicating the oath ceremony but the experience for me was extremely smooth and I was pleasantly surprised that the process took me just 3 months from begin to the completion of my interview. I strongly recommend that you apply online by making your own USCIS login using the link https://myaccount.uscis.gov/ .

Once you have your own login, you can keep checking the status of your application by logging in and the projected timing for me and my wife on my USCIS account was very accurate so far regarding the biometrics appointment date, citizenship interview date etc. My projected Oath Ceremony date is listed as March 2020 and I trust it will be accurate as well.

All the best to you all who are on your journey to US citizenship.

N-400, and name change
interview 12-11-2019
Approved 12-11-2019
Initially the officer marked mines as “ Decision cannot be made yet about your application” I thought maybe that was because I changed the spelling of my first name. But then when I came home the same day my status changed to approved and being in line for ceremony. I was happy to see that as I was disappointed after I left because I thought people usually get approved right away. After reading I see that not everyone does and it’s ok. I got approved the same day when I checked online. Ok so In Vegas they have jusidical ceremony anyway we don’t have the regular ceremony their all in front of a judge. How long would it take to get a letter for ceremony? It says online 3 months.

We approved your application
My timeline so far:

02/22/2019 we received your application
02/23/2019 we scheduled your biometrics appointment
03/14/2019 we reviewed your biometrics
11/01/2019 we scheduled your interview
Interview: 12/13/2019
12/13/2019 you attended your interview
12/13/2019 we approved your application

Now I just have to wait until they schedule my naturalization ceremony. The interview itself was easy! I attended my interview at the San Francisco office and the official was nice and friendly. Here are the questions she asked me:

1. what is one promise you make when you become a US citizen?
2. What do we show loyalty to when we say the pledge of allegiance?
3. Who vetoes bills?
4. In what month do we vote for president?
5. There were thirteen original colonies. Name three of them
6. What is one right that is only for US citizens?

After that she told me I passed the civics tests and we moved on to the reading and writing portion, which was easy. Then we reviewed my application and I was given a document saying I passed and was going to be recommended for naturalization and this afternoon the online status changed to “we approved your application” now I just have to wait for the ceremony, I hope it won’t take too long!
