I-751 (January 2019) & N-400 (November 2021)
Hi all,

I just wanna give you an update from my last post.

I filed I-751 January 2019 and since March 2020 it’s still stuck at interview will be scheduled. I have 2 I-551 stamps already.

November 2021 I filed for my citizenship based on 5 years of marriage.

March 2022 I got an interview letter for May 2nd 2022.

November 2019, I moved from Las Vegas to Iowa City to go to Nursing School. We maintained our Las Vegas address for all immigration. My husband was on road a lot.

I got another letter from immigration saying that my I-751 interview would be held in Iowa too.

May 2nd we attended both interviews in the morning. We started with I-751 and we were separated for it though it was brief for him but it took longer for me (applicant) about 25mins. The interviewer was very pleasant and asked about our house layout in Vegas (we lived with my husband’s parents), pets, tattoos on my husband’s body or birth marks, my jobs, if I actually did attend nursing school in Iowa (I had since changed from nursing school to Ministry which The Lord called me to in Aug 2020). I started attending ministry school online coz of covid, he asked about insurance, joint account (we did not have one), a house lease here in Iowa (we did not have one together coz we weren’t going to live in Iowa together and my husband is on the road a lot, he’s a truck driver), he asked about him meeting my family which he hasn’t coz they re all back in Kenya.

I was then interviewed first again then my husband.

I was then interviewed alone for the N-400. I passed the civil test and all the rest of the questions. I then signed his tablet with the Oath of Ceremony paperwork.

After all that the interviewer said he could not go ahead with the oath ceremony because he needed more documentation for my I-751(Removal of Conditions). He told me to expect a letter from him within 10 days and make sure to submit everything on it. He also asked if to use my Iowa or Las Vegas address and I said Las Vegas. I chose Las Vegas address because I had not officially changed it on the website (I chose not to because I did not want delays in transferring my file from Nevada to Iowa and there was already a delay as it is with covid)

I finally got the letter from immigration asking for the following:
a) all my W2s from 2017 to date
b) all my personal bank statements from 2017 to date
c) proof that the nursing school that I had applied to in Utah prior to moving to Iowa had discontinued their clinicals (which were only held in St. George coz the school was online)
d) proof that I attended the ministry school
e) proof that I attended nursing school in Iowa; and
f)proof of financial aid for my nursing school

The letter gave me up until August 1st 2022 to submit all these documents to their Des Moines office in Iowa.

I did that last week. (It took longer than I thought coz of documents from the Utah school). I wasn’t too alarmed coz I still had time to submit those. The letter also requires all documents sent together, they will not accept any document sent separately even if it was forgotten. This is another reason I took my time to gather all documents. Another thing I did was to include a letter explaining some emails following up with the school in Utah. I also included my graded papers from nursing school, copy of student ID, transcript, certificate awarded for the courses I had completed in the ministry online school. I also had to include a letter from my bank coz some of my bank statements did not have a logo (this is because they only allow 18months of statements online, the rest had to be sent to me from the bank’s archives).

I went out of my way to create a table of contents just to make work easier for the officers.

Anyways I am now waiting for an approval and a letter with my oath of ceremony.

It has been a long journey but it’s about to come to an end.

Sometimes you might not have all documentation they require but it’s very important not to lie about anything coz if you don’t have one thing they will ask for something else. Proof of marriage is not just documentation it’s also how you relate when in front of the officer.

I had a folder with more documentation that I took to the interview but he asked me to set it aside on a chair and did not ask for anything in it. I guess they had to ask for more documentation because the last paperwork sent to them was back in 2019 January.

To all 2019 filers, be patient your time is coming. Carry all documents acquired since your last application coz they might ask for it or not.

I give God all glory for taking me through this process, for giving me the patience to wait. USCIS is very short staffed whether we would like to believe it or not.

Last thing, do not compare your case with anyone’s they are not the same.

I will update on oath ceremony

Interview descheduled
Hey guys
So I have been waiting for so long almost a year then I got interview schedule notice finally on May 24th for the interview to be on June 30th

Then 2 days ago on June 15th, they de-scheduled the interview and said we will let you know when we reschedule and blah blah. I am so depressed and demotivated, has anyone has this before? And if yes how long until they reschedule? And why did this happen too? I read because of short staffing? Is it because it’s the weekend before July 4th?

I have a question. A couple of my friends applied for their citizenship immediately after they got their 10 years' green card and they got approved. So is there situation different? Why do others have to wait for a couple of years to apply after they receive their permanent resident green card?
