Going to attend a conference but I faced a refusal !!!!
Hi
I'm an Egyptian doctor working in KSA for 8 months
so I applied in Jeddah (KSA)
and I have to attend to a conference in Chicago
I planned to take my wife with me for tourism also

And the interview was as follow:

he: what are you working?
me: I'm a doctor( and i specified my degree and specialty)
he: where are u working?
me: (i mentioned and it is a respectable well known governmental hospital in KSA)
he: for how long you are in KSA?
me: for me its 8 months
he: and your wife?
me and she : 6 months
he: did you traveled together anywhere before?
me: yes we went to Spain last year for our honeymoon
he:do you have any first degree relatives in USA?
me: no
he: do you have any other relatives in USA?
me:no
he: (repeating and directing the question to my wife) do you have in relatives in USA?
she: (becoming irritable ) yes my cousin is there she is making diplomat at Boston University
(and actually we didn't mention that cousin in the application)
he:(asking me again)do you have any relatives in KSA?
me:yes my brother and sister
he:actually we cannot offer you US visa as you aren't Saudi or neutralized Saudi.
me: but I have a conference and i have to attend
he :whatever the cause , it isn't possible now and he gave me the 214b refusal paper
and he didn't even ask about the bank statement, HR letter or the invitation for the conference.

i think its the mistake about my wife's cousin
and if so, can i apply again? either only for me only or with my wife, which is better? as attending this conference is essential for me
if i applied again for myself only, do i have to mention my wife"s cousin as a relative for me in the application ?

US Consulate Mumbai experience
I would like to add some important information for those who are planning to visit US Consulate in Mumbai.
1. Arrive 50 min. before your interview time. You are not allowed to wait near US Consulate. You will have to wait on the opposite side of the road on footpath. So if you came 2 hours early or 50 min. early. It is all the same.
2. Keep watching towards the security guard as he gestures towards people to come to him and form a line around 50 min to 45 min. before the Interview time. This line will govern your overall waiting period for Visa.
3. Don't carry any thing electronics related (Even remote car key or smartwatches not allowed). If you don't have place to store it, kindly deposit at the locker available next to OFC (Fingerprinting & Photo place) in Trade Center. They charge rs. 200 to store your bag for 2 hours.
4. Only Passport to be kept in hand while standing in a line. Rest all the documents to be kept in transparent folder. I would advise to keep fan shaped transparent folder so that in case if you need to find any paper when VO Asks, you dont have to waste time.
5. Once you go inside, they will do security check including watch on your hand. So keep things ready and don't waste time as if you will waste time to go thru security check, the person behind you might just pass you as there is no token no.
6. after security check you will be asked to sit in large covered area outside the consulate in line.
7. They will ask you to enter consulate when your turn comes. please note that there is no token no. at any stage hence, walk fast and in line.
8. Once you go inside, they will collect your passports and at 2 windows, you have to confirm your fingerprints when they read your name and collect passport.
9. Now the real line starts as they will segregate people as per their chosen interview language. Usually English Language line is short and Regional (Gujarati, Marathi etc.) line is much longer.
10. Now comes the nerve wrecking part. If you are ahead in the line means you don't have to listen to every interview happening in front of you and see either acceptance of denials. You will be more fresh and energetic.

I was 3rd in a line with my family for B2 Visa. Interview time was 2.00 pm.
We reached at Consulate at 01 pm. We were out by 1.50 pm.

VO usually has 3 - 4 min. max for each applicant. Your confidence in giving them answer and your travel history is very crucial in securing visa.
They have asked all applicants before me about their travel history.

Oh and yes, My Family got visa.

Best luck!

strong ties
Hi,

Toay on 3/28/2016, 8:00 am was our visa interview

I applied for a visitor visa along with mu husband for US. My sister, brother and brother in law stays in US.
We had a plan to visit US on occasion of my niece 2nd bday in May this year, and also had plan to visit number of other places. My sister had send an invite letter to me and we were suppose to sponor ourselves. along with us my parents were also suppose to join us (they already have a visitor visa and been to US before).
My husband works in a Govt firm and I'm in an IT company, we both earn good based on the experience level.

The interview started as
Q1. Why you want to go to US?
A1. To meet my sister and celebrate my niece second bday together we also have a plan to visit a number of tourist places in US.

Q2. Whn did your sister go there?
A2. after her marriage in 2010.

Q3. when did you last meet your sister?
A3. Jan 2012

Q4. Where do you work ?
A4. replied company ZZZ

Q5. (To my husband) where do you work ?
A5. replied govt company ZZZ

Q6. Duration of work (to me)
A6. Replied

Q7. Asked about my previous company
A7. replied

Q8. (To my husband) duration of work and designation
A8. my husband replied that he will complete 7 yrs and shared his designation as well.

Q how long have you been married.
A. we both replied together 3 years

Q how long you want to stay in US?
A we both replied together 3 weeks.

Q9. Do you have any US visa.
A9 . No
(this is did not speak but was mentioned in my DS-160, my company had applied for my L1 which was not approved and i had stated the truth in DS-160), but in interview he asked if i hold any US visa for which is simply said no and avoided to bring this thing up.

Q10. DID to travel abroad before this.
A10. Replied no we haven't, but we have traveled and number of places in india, named a few which the interviewer did not even bother to listen

After this he said i m sorry you can not get the visa as i feel you do not have strong ties in your country and handed over our passports.
He did not ask us any question regarding our ties nor asked for any documents, my husband is the only son, we have a home loan ongoing, and we both have good jobs and had all reasons to come back.

Can anyone help us understand the exact reason for this rejection? Also when can we plan to apply again as i wanted to go to US to meet my sister.
how do i prepare better next time, i had rehearsed all questions well from the forums available and did not lie any where in my DS -160 or interview.

Please help!!!
Thanks.
