B1/B2 Visa
I dont know how to thank this website but its all because of this website that I got 10 yr multiple entry B1/B2 visa in the first go... Though its because of God's grace but due credit goes to this website as well as I did go thru the experiences mentioned here. Just to let you know... I am 25 years old.. working with an MNC but didnt apply for the Business Visa, rather I had prepared docs for Visitor Visa. But the interviewer didnot even ask me for any documents. He straightaway took the Passport
& the HDFC doc along with the interview date document and asked me about my job profile and reason for going. He confirmed about my tenure with my current organisation and said I am issuing you the Visa. He didnot tell me the duration or the type of Visa but I got my passport within 2 days in the post and was happy to see 10yr B1/B2 multiple entry Visa. All thanks to God and immihelp.com for this. The key for the interview lies in confidence so I would suggest everyone to go confidently and the visa would be yours.

Widow Mom got 10years Multiple Entry Visa on 15th Dec, Chennai.
Some basic Questions like

Who lives in US
What do they do
Where do they work

My mom had her old passport, which was last used before 26years. However, it almost had all pages stamped with different entries and the officer was looking at it very carefully.

Sponsors and Visitors documents were never asked for.

Thanks Immihelp, particularly for the Q&A session. & Good Luck to everyone who is preparing for Interviews.

Anybody travelling from chennai to US in the next few weeks, please contact.

Mom got 10yrs visa at chennai consulate - 2nd attempt
My mother went to Chennai consulate in March and now on Dec15th. I've copied my previous post about her visa experience in March.

1st attempt
================================================
My mother (widow) went to the Chennai Consulate for visitor visa. The interviewer was a burkha clad lady.

She asked the following questions:
1. How many children do you have?
A. 2 - 1 son and 1 daughter

2. Where is your son?
A. America

3. Where is your daughter?
A. In Chennai

4. Does your daughter have any children?
A. Yes. 1 daughter

That's it. Nothing about property or tell me why you will come back and stuff like that. The lady just rejected the visa under 214B rule.

What's the next step? Should she wait for 6 months before reapplying again? Any hints or help is greatly appreciated.

2nd Attempt
================================================
We applied for her visa again on Dec15th. Nothing significant has changed in terms of documentation since then. I just sent my updated sponspor documents.

However, we did make a few changes.
1. Previously we specified her visiting period as 6 months. This time, we reduced it to 2 months.
2. Previoulsy she took the Telugu interview. This time, she went for the English interview.
3. Previously, we mentioned that I will take care of her entire expenses. This time, it was "partly self and partly son"
4. Previously, she had mentioned a date for her travel plans. This time she had no date for the travel.

Interview - this time it was not the burkha clad lady.
1. Where are you staying now?
A. With my daughter

2. Is your husband still alive?
A. No

3. When did he expire?
A. She told the date

4. Did you son apply for green card?
A. Yes

That's it! She was told that she will get the visa in a few days. She got it yesterday and it was stamped for 10 years.

I am not really sure if the changes we made really made a difference. I guess it is totally upto the discretion of the interviewing officer.

A hearty thanks to immihelp.com and all it contributing users!

Mother (Widow) got 10 Yr Multiple visa from Chennai on 3rd attempt
Hi All,

This a post to thank immihelp for creating a portal for users to share experiences. I hope our experience will serve as an encouragement to others who have gone through or are going through similar situation.

My background:
I am married and am living with my spouse in bay area. I am on a non-resident alien on a work visa. I have a younger unmarried brother who works in India and stays with my mom.

First attempt:
My mother intvd at Chennai in July 05. I had sent the I134, but since she had sufficient assets in India, we thought the intw process would be a cake walk. My mom was very confident when she answered questions (she had chosen Hindi translator - as we were concerned about accent). The CO asked her several questions, often repeating the same, and finally rejected the VISA.
Questions were general - how long, who is in US, what do you do, how many children, what are they doing etc. No questions were asked on finances - and the visa was rejected without even looking at papers.
That is when I started checking out immihelp - and learnt that there were several others with similar experiences.
The rejection shatterred us and we began to believe that she would never get the VISA. In any case we decided to try again.

Second Attempt:
We tried again in Dec 05. This time the questions were not many... how long do you want to go? what does your son do? how many children? Has your son sent papers?
The CO took papers and went through them and rejected the visa again with one sentence "This time you are not eligible!"
The CO was also very rude, and my mom was hell bent that she would never go for the intvw again. It was too much for a self-respecting individual.

Third Attempt:
I visited India earlier this year and booked yet another appt date without my mom's knowledge because she wouldn't have allowed me otherwise. When the intvw date (late Nov) was near, we told her and sent papers again - and requested her to attend intvw again for my sake. She agreed reluctantly saying this was the last time that she went; and was finally 3rd time lucky. Although we were trying for the 3rd time, neither my mom nor I had any hope that she would get the visa.

She found a very friendly American CO (lady) who spoke Hindi. Questions were more focussed on my mom's assets/income in India. The CO refused to see any documents and finally granted her the visa.

It is very difficult to understand on what grounds the COs refuse/grant visa. I would suggest that when people go for the intvw, it is better to prepare very well but psychologically assume that one would not get the visa. That reduces the mental anguish. Also, if people are truthful and have nothing to hide, they should not give up and keep trying.

all the best!

Additions to my last posting on 11-Dec-2006
On 11-Dec-2006, I gave my experiences of Visa interview at Chennai on 7th Dec. I had not given some information that I originally thought may not be required / useful to others, but now I think I must share it also as it might be useful to others seeking VISA. Our original interview was on 6th Dec. When we were admitted inside the embassy, we were taken to a counter manned by US embassy staff where our pass ports / DS-156 forms were checked in their computer system for more than 15 minutes. The reason was, just before 2 days of interview, I had made 2 corrections in the form DS-156, for the columns of 21 and 37. My two sons are in US, both are on G.C, and originally I had written only one son as ‘ permanent resident’ in column 37 since he was sponsoring me, and I had not mentioned about the second one in US. But on reconsideration I thought I should declare second son’s status also in the application and accordingly changed as ‘G.C/G.C’ Also I am retired from state govt. but temporarily working in an Engineering Consultancy firm but originally mentioned in the column 21 as ‘retired’. Now I changed it also as ‘Engineering Consultant’. These changes in the last minute must have made them to check the system for a long time on 6th Dec for the details of my second son or if any one had filed immigration request on our behalf etc. After checking the system for more than 15 minutes and typing etc, they asked us to come again on 7th Dec. telling that they need some more information before interview. When we went for interview on 7th there was no similar problem and the VFS staff and also staff at the first counter of the embassy were courteous and after initial checking at the counter allowed us for the interview. As I mentioned in the last letter I was looking for a friendly VO and stood before him. The VO was a nice smiling person who did not ask for further documents as I had already put important docs in the file. Finally it was a happy ending as I mentioned in the last posting. I wanted to share this information also what ever may be its worth. GOOD LUCK ........

Parents got 10 year visa - Chennai - 8th Dec
Hi,

My parents were granted a 10 year multiple entry visa. Their interview was on 8th Dec 2006. They handed over the DS forms and passport and they were asked the following questions:

Who stays in US?
Daughter and Son-in-law

Since when are they there?
Since.....

Do you have any other children?
Yes, a son

What is he doing?
He is in business

What kind of business?
Told the officer the kind of business...

Is it a family business?
Yes

That was all. The officer did not ask for any sponsor or visitor documents. Just said that their visa was granted and to have a nice trip.

Thanks to immihlep, the website was very helpful.

Regards,
Soumya
