Parents visitor visa rejected
Hi,
My mom went for visitor visa in NOV'05 and got rejected under 214(b) and again this month July'06 both my mom and dad attended for interview, they got rejected.

Questions they are asking is simple.
1. who is there in U.S.?
2. How many kids you have?
3. What is your other daughter doing here?
4. what language you speak(English,Telugu or Tamil)

They are saying Visa is rejected.

I am looking to take some suggestions from Senator here,Can anyone help me how I can find senator and how I have to talk to them?

Any help on this will be appreciated...

Thank You
Vijaya

Visa rejection under 214 ( b)
Today I had my visa interview; I was fully prepared with all the documents. But my visa was refused under Section 214 (b) of Immigration and Nationality Act (Insufficient funds to support myself during the period of stay in the U.S.).

The madam who was taking the interview went through I-20 form and asked me how my expenses will be covered. I showed her the letters including the award statement. She asked me why the assistantship is not written on the i-20 (the amount of my father's bank statement, that i sent to WSU, is written on the i-20 form as means of support of covering the costs). I told her that i got the award letter few days ago. Hearing this, she asked me for the new i-20 form. i told her that i don't have any new i-20 form. she asked me to show other funding availble. i had the original copy the official letter from the bank with me stating my father's bank account (that i gathered from the bank while preparing the bank statement of my father that i sent to WSU, and this amount is written on the i-20 i presently have). So i showed it to her. then she asked me what are the other sources of my funding. i had a paper with me which shows a table containing detailed financial status of some of my relatives (M.I.S., N.S.C., Cash amount in bank, etc from 5 relatives, and the gross amount of readily available liquid assets was USD $62943.84). She went through it, asked me some questions and told me "Sorry to say you that you don't have enough funds to cover your costs in the U.S.". I told her that in the award statement letter from the WSU it is clearly written that i am already getting full funding for the first year, then why you are telling that i don't have enough proof to cover my costs in U.S.. She told me that my assistantship from the school should be written on a new i-20 form, which will show that your whole cost is covered by it. So you should ask your university to issue a new i-20 form like this.

That's the problem i had today, that's the reason why it was turned down by the US consulate general.

got 10 yr business visa in second application
Hi I got 10-yr visa end april at chennai, after rejection for my first application in early march.
Basically, I was rejected the first time due to insufficient documents. the second time I had with me a clear letter of invitation, letter of support, letter of employment in india and a statement in all three letters that I would be paid salary by indian employer. also fact that all travel-related EXPENSES would be borne by US co that was inviting me.
I also had with me -- but visa officer never saw them -- proof for family in India, residence in India, movable and immovable property in india etc.
basically, visa officer wanted to know why I thought I should get visa and what docs I had to support my apps. Also had to explain American company's strong reasons for wanting me to go there.
Confident attitide supported by good documents will make the case for the visa. So, prepare well and read experiences from sites such as immihelp to get a good idea of what you will be asked.
cheers!

Chennai Consulate Experience.
Hello,

Just wanted to share my experience at the Chennai Consulate. By God's grace, I got my visa in November '05 and I am currently studying at NYU, pursuing my masters in CS.

Yes, I was interviewed by the "infamous" "burkha-clad" girl, which I believe is a very rude way of identifying a hard-working officer. Before I give you pointers, I would like to remind you that I have seen a lot of message boards that I am an active member of passing distasteful and rude remarks at her. Yes, her rejection rate is high, but she is thorough and doing her job. She wants to ensure many of us who lie and bs our way through interviews don't make it, and those of who deserve it and are credible, go all the way through. Its simple as that. Yes, some valid candidates might fall through, but a human filter an only do so much. How do I know this? The line was very long and so was the wait. I could hear and see every candidate, rejection, acceptance and interview she was doing. I would love to hire such a person who is so committed and thorough. The other american officers, some were nice, some didn't care, some accepted outright buddhoos lying their way through the interview....its crazy. Is just that no one can label them because they don't have any visible identifiers (scarf, burkha, topi, etc).

Pointers:
Have all valid documents. If you are a true and valid candidate, there is nothing to worry about. I see a lot of message boards where they stress you to look "confident" "smile" etc. This is all very uncessary unless you have something to hide. I got top marks on my GRE's, I was a top student throughout my life, not because I am genius, but because I took the effort and the energy to work hard. My family is a decently wealthy family - not too rich, not too poor, and yes, I plan to return back to India after my studies to work at my father's company.

If you have something to hide, your documents are forged, you have a shady past etc don't bother. You are taking other valid candidates opportunites away.

And also keep an open mind. The officers - even the muslim lady at the consulate, are not there to hound and hunt you down. They are just doing their job. So get it right people.

Lots of love,
Anu

My parents in law went for their interview on 14 june and were granted 10 yrs visa.
The questions that were asked were:
Why do you want to go?
When do u plan to go?
what does your son in India do?
and my father in law was asked Where were you working last before you retired?
They met with a person in the consulate wose son was in the us and had been married for quite some time and had no kids.
He was asked "Why does your son have no kids even after so many years of marriage?"
The answer he gave was " ASK THEM, IT IS NOT MY PROBLEM WHY THEY DONT HAVE KIDS... IT IS THEIR PROBLEM NOT MINE!"
this was the flat answer he gave to the co.
She also staarted laughing at such a straight answer.
But it is advisable not be so straight to the point. You never know in what mood the co is in and may not grant the visa.
This person got a 10 year visa.
My parents were not asked for any documents at all.
Thanks to everyone, this site really helped us a lot
