Stamping Exp. at Delhi 20th March'06
Hi All,
Sorry to share this all now, its so late but I was just busy with some really important stuff and decided to write down finally.
My appointment was at 11:30 AM delhi consulate.
Reached there at 11 AM and security told me to stand across the road and come at 11:30AM.
Stood in line at 11:25AM, passed on the security check, then move to a window, he will check if you have the appointment, will check you cheque.
Enter inside you the security to keep you valuables.Collect token.
Get in go toward right and you will have two counters of finger printing, give your finger prints, they will tell you to go and stand in the line for the stamping.
Stood there in 10 mins I got my number on the window, he was a male Visa Officer (VO):-
VO: How long you been working with ABC?
Me: Told him.
VO: How much are you earning here?
Me: Told the exact figures.
VO: Why are you leaving ABC?
Me: Said got this great offer, want to have some US experience and will have greater responsibilty.
VO: Are you a new hirer?
Me: Yes
VO: You Visa has been issued sir, Thank you.
Me: Is there anything else I need to do?
VO: No thats all, Thanks, ... Next.
Went to the VFS counter inside I was hoping to collect the passport same day, but thats not possible and practically gets around 3 day for embassy to handover passport to VFS, The day VFS gets your passport(You can do a online check), only that day you can collect it from there office at Delhi till 4pm else they dispatch it same day.
What matters (I guess) :-
> The ways you carry youself, just be formal, no extra talk, say only what is asked, Answer to the point.
> Dress smartly and carry your documents nicely ie
He just asked for my I797,cheque and passport. YES no company documents, payslips, appointment letter... absolutely nothing.
> I had my firms ID card hung in my neck, with the name written quite big on the strap, and as its a very famous big MNC, He noticed that and started taking from that topic only.. So that helped in communicating lot of things without any papers.
> It does matter how you carry yourself in front of him, should *atleast look* well arranged with documents.
> Just keep youself cool and go as you go for some important meeting with all preparation.
> Dont panic un-neccesarily, It wont help, have what all you have, dont worry about what all you cant arrange or something, he might not ask what you dont have.
Collected my valuables from security.
I was out around 11:55AM hardly 30Mins :)
All the best to all of you!
Just be managed (Or atleast tend to be one ;))
My parents applied for a B1 visa. Both of them were working. We prepared ourselves with all the documents mentioned on the immihelp site and US consulate website.
Financial :
On D-156 my parents had mentioned that they would be paying of the trip themselves. But in addition I had send them the letter of support and I-134 incase the officer were to say their funds were insufficient.
They also had credit card statments indicating the Credit Limit to show financial Support.
Ties with India :
They showed their employment letter and leave letter. They also had round trip tickets and a list of places they had planned to visit in the US.
Interview questions :
1. What places do you plan to visit ?
2. Are you still working ?
3. How long do you plan to be there.
The did not require to show any of my documents of support and were granted visa.
hi,
My visa interview was held at chennai consulate on 4th May 2006 at 11,30 am. Under the hot sun standing out of the main entrance about three hours, i entered inside the gate. There they checked all the documents.
the Consular officer asked me the following:
1. why are u intend to visit usa?
2. how many months u need?
3. what are you doing in bangalore?
4. when do u retire?
5. how many children?
6. where is your son working?
7, cab i have the details of ur family?
8. who is sponsoring the trip?
9. can i have the copy of u r spouse?
I answed all the questions perfectly. the consular officer asked me to pay the fee at counter no.1. To my surprise, 10 years multiple visa is granted.
First of all for those whose parents visa has been rejected, please dont get dejected or disappointed about this. There is always a second time.
So to start: I had their appointment scheduled at 8.00AM on May 22nd. They were at the consulate office at 7.45AM. They went through the normal check and were in line with the others to face the interview. They were asked to be in line 4 and since it was not moving fast, they shifted to another line where the consulate officer was not asking too many questions.
When their turn came,
CO: What do you do?
First thing my dad did was, he gave his visiting card and said I am a chief engineer (a grade one officer in Karnataka), head of the department and 200 engineers work under him.
CO: Asked which was the big project executed by you?
DAD: _________, in Bangalore.
CO: What do you do?
MOM: house wife
CO: Supporting husband? Good!
MOM: Smile
CO: Who is in US?
DAD: Daughter and Son-in-law
CO: What does she do?
DAD: Working in ___________as _______________
CO: Please give me her visa papers.
My dad gave him my H1 approval papers
At last, my dad asked him to give multiple entry visa and so CO just smiled.
Result: My parents got 10 year multiple entry visa.
Remember: The only thing they look for is you coming back because some strong ties in INDIA. Like your old dependent parents, children unmarried, property to manage, work. Be confident and smiling while you answer any question asked by CO.
NOTE: NEVER mention you need to go US because your daughter is PREGNANT.

Yesterday, my parents went for the VISA interview
yesterday at Delhi embassy. Both went to the same window at the same time and my dad was the one who answered all the questions. The outcome is that my mom got the VISA but, for my dad they told that they need to do some additional administrative processing and returned his passport & Draft.
Does anyone understand what does this mean, how log does it take and what are the chances.
Thanks to this site my inlaws got 10 yrs visitors visa after 2 attempts. This time we followed the guidance provided by this website.
They were asked.
1) What my FIL did?(He is retired)
2) Asked about his pension details.
3) Asked how many children, and where they are.
4) Then asked about our details. We both work so my FIL showed all the supporting documents.Earlier I was doing my masters so they rejected on insufficient funds.
5) Asked to pay the fee.
Actually I booked for Telugu appointment as my MIL cannot speak english, but at the counter they offered to pick the language, and FIL said he can talk english....so attended in english. No questions were asked to my MIL
Thanks to this site.
Myself and my Snehlata Gupta interviewed on 4th May,2006 and granted visitor visa for 10 years.
The following questions were asked:
What is your profession and salary?
How many children you have and what they are doing?
Your financial resourses, your son account details in USA and his profession, various letters sent my son like request letter to embassy, invitation letter, letter from international student advisor
This took only 2 minutes.
I was informed by CC that visa is granted to both of you and welcome to USA for your family visit.
My MIL got visitor visa in her 5th attempt on May 16th at Mumbai. She had tried 3 consecutive attempts in Mar, Apr, May 2004 and was rejected everytime with the reason being the consular officer is not get convinced that she will go back to India after her stay in USA. Though we had not mentioned, we wanted her here during the birth of my first child. We even sought senator's help in the third attempt. Still that didn't work out.
Then again we tried in august 2005 and got rejected another time.
Now this is the 5th attempt. Following questions were asked. Both the officer and traslator were nice friendly ladies.
Who is there in US? - Daughter & fly
How many children do you have? - Two
What is your son doing? - Studying here(actually he is working in Dubai)
What is your husband doing? - He works in Dubai.
Will you come back? - Definitely, I got to take care of my son and aged mother-in-law
Do you have any documents? - MIL offered all documents, but officer didn't look at any except a letter from church priest acknowledging to know her and stating that she is going to US only for a visit.
That's it. Officer said, you got the visa. You will get the passport by courier in 2 days.
I would like to thank this website and all of those contributing their experiences. It helped us a lot.
Thanks immihelp for the help. My mom got visa today at Kolkota consulate. Question were asked:
Who lives there?
What is she doing?
Why you are going only for two months?
Who is this person(about my husband)?
I have a sister in US and she is pregnant, but we were sponsoring so we didn't mention her any where in the document.
