Sucess in 2nd attempt
Mine is a visitors visa application and I have appeared for the second time-- first in October and next on 24th Feb.The consular officer is courteous but asked searching questions. I got the visa.
Suggestions: It is true that they are recording the information furnished in DS156. We have to relate first time information with second time application convincingly and intelligently. Each column of DS156 specially Item No.26, 27,28,34 and 37 must be filled with thought and imagination. Passport copies of sponsorers and their evidence of status in US must be held. Rehearsing of interview is suggested. A brief details of sponsorers employment and also contents in affidavit of support needs close look. Intelligent arrangement of papers you are carrying is necessary.
Questions:
What is the purpose of your trip
Who is there in US
How many children do you have
What are they
Can you show any paper about their employment
What is your wife
Please show her passport (since she was holding US visa and went once)
Will she accompany you now to US
What are you
What you were doing
When did you retire
Since when pension is paid to you .
Show me the pension order.
Do you intend to settle in US
That is end and visa granted.
(Normal procedure at Embassy is----- entrance you have to show passport and appointment letter,
entry inside, pay courier fees, submit processing fee draft along with passport, submit DS-156 and passport which they will checkand give back in a folder, proceed to interview hall with the folder and wait for your turn, when they say yes submit visa issuance draft

Mother got 10 year visa
Details:
- I have GC.
- parents were here 5 years ago and returned well within the I94 date.
- Chennai, Tamil translator.
- Asked for 3 months visa.

Questions asked:
- How long do you want to stay there?
- Why is your husband not coming with you?
- What is your son's name?
- What is he doing?

They took out only the passport, photo, DS156 and the appt letter from the packet that I had sent. When my mom offered to show other documents, they asked her to NOT take out any other documents. They didnt even see my I134 or my parent's supporting documents.

Parents got visitors visa 2nd attempt Chennai consulate.
Parents got visitor visa 2nd attempt at chennai consulate.

1st attempt at delhi consulate rejected.

----------------------------
1st attempt: in July 2004
----------------------------

Took appointment at delhi consulate as there are no appointments available at
chennai consulate.

Questions asked:
1) Why did you come to Delhi consulate?
2) How many children do u have and where are they?
3) How many months do you want to go to US?

My dad : 3-4 months
Consular: But in the invitation letter it states you needs 6 months?
My dad : he don't have that much vacation so we will stay only for 3-4 months.
Consular: Asked my mom how many months do you want to stay?
My mom : 6 months as the consular officer said it is six months in the invitation letter.

That's it he said visa rejected and go to chennai consulate next time.

Didn't prepare my parents with any interview questions and they have no idea what they will ask.

-------------------------------
2nd attempt: Febrary 24th 2005
--------------------------------

This time we thought we need to prepare them well before going to the consulate. So I prepared
a rought draft of the questions from this forum and the last two days before the appointment I
interviewed them using these questions and told them what and how they need to answer for the questions.

Then they got much confidence in them that they can answer any question.

Question asked:

1) What is your daughter doing?
2) How many children do u have and where are they?
3) where do u work?

that's it Consular officer said visa granted and pay the fees.

Confidence is the key ..Please prepare your parents with some basic questions so that they will be confident while answering the questions. Also both of them need to say the same answer for all the questions if asked.

At last luck plays some role and pray to God.

Thanks for all the people who posted their experiences which are really helpful and immihelp for providing this service.

MY PARENTS GOT VISA
Hi All,

My parents went to visa today ie 23rd at chennai and they got visa but i dont know yet how many years they got visa
They had appointment 9.30am .They reached there by 8.00am.They allowed them to inside at 8.30am.
They told them change the DD's because they took it for Rs 4600 and Rs 2300.I think they changed the amounts to Rs 4400 and Rs 2200 recently(Please everybody should remember this). They went to nearby bank and got the new DD's.After that they waited 10 minutes.

The interviewer(Lady)asked them
1.How many children they have and where are they?
2.Why did'nt go to US last time?
Only my mom came US in 2001
and she said she is giving visa

They did'nt ask for any documents
except the application and their passports.

Parents got Visa-Chennai
Hi,
My parents attended interview last week at Chennai at 9:30 am.
The interview went well. Translator was Kannada but his service was not used as the interview was simple. The interviewer(Male) was kind enough to ask my dad few general questions and was pleased to grant them visa.
He asked:
1. What is your name? Where does your son work?
2. Occupation?
(My dad is a Business owner selling grocery)
3. What do you sell?
( Foodgrains, cosmetics, oil, etc..)
4. What type of oils ?
( Coconut, Peanut...etc)
He then asked some selling price of those oils...just to see how confidently they answer. My dad answered well as he know them easily! That's it...Visa was granted. None of the documents were seen anywhere!

We got the visa after 2 days and we are pleased to see 10 yrs multiple!!

My advise to others:
1. Go thru this site. Prepare a document mapping questions and answers which your parents should know and to expect.
2. Go thru them everyweek with your parents. Dont ask them questions just before they leave. They may get confused and may forget in fear!
3. Make them feel it is easy. Never tell them any bad experiences.
4. What I did was collected some Success experiences from this forum, pasted it in a word document and sent to them. Reading other people experiences made them more confident. Say out of 30 success add 2-3 failures which will make them understand why others didnt get. Dont add failures such as "They didnt see anything...just rejected"
This may give them negative feel.
5. Let them understand what is D156 and its contents and other documents. This is what the interviewer looks at.
6. Tell them to add some english words in between say for ex: Numbers instead of local language numbers.

Finally, Luck too plays a lot and blessings from God!!

Thanks to immihelp.
Wish everyone best of luck!

Regards,
PK

10 yr. Visa at First attempt
Thanks to this wonderful site I and my wife recd. visa from the mumbai consulate at the first attempt on 18-FEB.
Preparing the documents as listed on this site and also rehearsing the answers to the most likey questions asked will improve your confidence-- this is the key.

The Lady consular officer was very courteous and asked me the following questions. No questions were asked to my wife.
1.Why are you going to US
2.What are you doing
3.How many children do you have & their ages
4.How long do you plan to be there
5.Who is there in US, their status

Some observations-
1. The consular officer was asking for lot of documents from persons who did not get the visa.Their interviews also lasted longer. We did not show a single paper!!!

2.Be truthful . It shows on your face. They rapid fire the questions. If you fumble or have to think and answer they get suspicious.
3.Be prepared to wait. Though we had a 1030 appt. our interview happened at 1400hrs.

Finally, pray to God and go.

Good luck to everyone appearing for the interview

Thankyou Immihelp once again.

Visa rejected for my parents
My parents visa rejected on 02/18. Everything seems to be going fine for them, till they ask about my brohter. My brother is here in us for short term trip and that was it. I don't know why they ask all the documents if they don't prefer to go through.
