Mother- In- Law got her visa in first attempt
My Mother-In-Law went for tourist visa interview on Jan 19th 2005 at Chennai Consulate. She had interview at 9.30 and she went at 8'o clock itself. They allowed everyone inside by 8.30 am.We opted for Tamil translator. She was called within 1/2hr and the officer asked her the following questions:
1.Where and why are you going to US?
2.Where is your son working in US ?
3.When did ur son first entered US?
4.How many children do you have?
5.How many children do u have in India?
6.what are the places that u visited in ur last trip?
7.what did u see in chicago in ur last trip?

After she answered all these questions, the translator said, the passport will be couriered to you. Please pay the money and go.
I think since she answered confidently she got her visa.None of the documents was seen. We had sent all the documents. But he didn't ask a single thing from it. Only her visa application was taken.
Thanks for everyone and the information on this website. It helped us greatly.

Got Business VISA in second attempt
Hi All,
I want to share my experience with you all and I hope this will be some use to prospective
applicants of US Visa. I applied for Business Visa to US on Dec 14, 2004 at New Delhi. My
company has given me all the documents required as given in http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov (official web site of US Embassy, New Delhi). Many of my friends told me that since it is business visa there is nothing to be worried and infact I felt the same. Since it is first time I am going for VISA I waited for appointment time
outside the embassy. By the time I went inside it is afternoon and I am very tired.
I went to interview in casual dress with sports shoes. I am also tired of standing for 2 hours in the Que and these factors have taken their toll. Since I am going for the first time I am bit nervous too.
Counsular officer asked me the following questions
1. What is the purpose of your trip?
A: To take client requirements(I stumbled here)
2. What sort of company is your company?
A: Software development.
3. Where is it located?
A: xyz City
4. What is your pay package?
A: Rs.xxx/- per annum
He turned the application and found that my brother stays in USA and was upset
5. Oh your brother stays in US?
A: Yes.
6: What is he?
A: Software Engineer
Then he didn't see any other document. He said he can't issue VISA. I said my trip is urgent and important meeting is scheduled in US. For this he said you can apply again with another
consular officer. I felt entire world around me falling apart. It was huge dissapointment for me as well as my employer as he has invested lot of effort and time.
I feel my pay package(less then industrial standards), company credentials, my looks(Casual
dress) and last but not the least my brother staying in US have gone against my application.
I never took seriously all these factors. My brother suggested me this site and for the first time I felt I am not alone in this world. I had gone through many sites and one thing came out from them is "Prove the consular officer that you intent to come back".
During this period my wife conceived and I felt this is the only way. Show the medical
certificate showing my wife is pregnant and convince Consular that I want to come back home
to meet my wife and new born baby. This time I took no chances. I dressed myself very professionally and this time with a very expensive tie too. I got appointment on Jan 10,2005. And since I am going for second time I prepared well. I was inside consular office with in half an hour. I avoided the que in which the earlier officer was present in counter. This time I am not at all nervous. I started conversation with other people and made myself comfortable with the environment.
My turn finally came and I wished Consular Officer with a smile. Following is conversation
that followed:
Q1: Do any of your family members stay in US?
A : Yes.
Q2: Who?
A : My brother.
At this he verified the application form
Q3: Where is he in US?
A : xyz City
Q4: What is he there?
A : Software Engineer
Q5: Since how long he is in US?
A : x years
Q6: What is his status? I mean is he on temporary or Green Card?
A : Temporary VISA (H1 B)
Q7: Did you applied for VISA earlier?
A : Yes. On 14th Dec, 2004
Q8: what is the purpose of your trip?
A : To attend meeting with client and attending training program
Q9: Who is the client?
A : xyz
Q10: Who is he and what does he do?
A : I answered this question very confidently in first interview I stumbled
Q11: Your pay package?
A: Rs.xxx/- per annum
Q12: Since how long you have been in Delhi?
A: x years
Q13: Any changes since you applied last time
A: Yes. My wife is pregnant and I don't want to leave her alone in these circumstances for long.
I presented her medical certificate at this moment
He didn't asked me any further questions and didn't verify any other documents too. He just
asked me invitation letter from US which I presented him and I didn't feel he studied it
completly. He has given me a sticker and thanked me for coming.
I couldn't believe this. I got One year muliple entry visa. The most important experience I
got is CONFIDENCE. Answering with Confidence makes your case appear genuine. That's all.
There is nothing more than this.
I would like to thank my brother, this site, my employer and last but not the least my wife and unborn child without them I may not get the VISA. Wish all of you the best and remember CONFIDENCE is the key.

Mother got 10 years visa.
Hi Friends,

My mother got 10 years multiple entry visa on Jan 6th at Chennai Consulate. I am not telling about what documents I prepared, BUT I will tell about the procedure on that interview date and the Questions they asked. All documents (by me & by mother) are prepared as per this website. Actually she got March 10th appointment date BUT I requested for prior date and they accepted. On that day my mother reached consulate ½ hour before. At 1st counter they verified her appointment letter and passport. And then asked to go to 2nd counter. At 2nd counter they took all documents sent by me and also my mother DS-156 application form signed one (I submitted it online) and her passport. And at 3rd counter they took Rs.4600 DD and given her a token and asked her to wait. We opted for Telugu translator. She was called within ½ hour and the officer was very friendly and greeted my mother and asked her only 2 questions.

1) How many children do you have?
2) Where are you living and with which son?

THAT’S IT!!. Then they asked to pay remaining DD (Rs.2300) and after 2 days received passport and found she got 10 years multiple entry visa. I think her age (63 years) factor favored us.

Thanks a bunch to immihelp to provide such a beautiful information and also thanks to others who shared their experience.

I wish you all the best for getting visitor visa for your loved ones!

Sincerely,
SNS @ Atlanta.

Visitors Visa Approved
When my parents first went in Oct for an interview(English) at the consulate, their visa got rejected under 214(b). For their second attempt, I opted for a Telugu interpretor with the hope that it might pay off. However, the consulate officer asked a few straight questions and said to my parents that their visa got approved. So overall, my parents say that this time the experience has been pleasant. Also they said that they knew how to act/react to the consular questions based on their first attempt.

Questions Asked:
1. Where and why are you going to US?
- SFO, to visit my son and tour places
2. How many children do you have?
- 2 sons and a daughter
3. Where and what are the sons doing?
- Both are in US and they are working as s/w professionals
4. So you going to visit your grand children too?
- My sons are both single and have no children
5. What do you(Father) do?
- Retired Central Govt emploee. Currently looking over our agricultural lands
6. So when are you thinking of marrying your daugther?
- After we return from US, we would start looking for matches as currently there are no auspicious days.
7. How are you thinking of finding bride-groom for your daugther. Is it through paper Advertisement?
- Through Marriage Bureau

--------------------
Documents Taken
All the document requirements that are posted in this site. Since this was my parents second attempt, I wrote a re-apply letter to the consulate citing reasons as to why they cant be judged as potential immigrants under 214(b). Also I have asked my Dad to write a personal letter to the consulate from his side regarding the same.

Visitor visa
I am really indebted to the immihelp who have provided me help for preparation of interview and also boosted confidance in me of 60 yrs old person. The Lady Consulte Officer at New Delhi simply asked me about my son's job in USA and seen his petition and also confirmed from me that I am retired Central Govt. officer and have not seen any other papers though I have taken with me I 134 my sons income returns and so on (16 documents) She simply smiled and given me a sticker to be handed over to TTS that my visa will be sent at my residance. Let me see how much visa is sanctioned to me. I only suggest that applicant should not be nurveos while answering question and be bold while presenting the need for visitor visa and papers to. My hat off to immihelp to whom I intrepret that it is site with immediate help besides immigaration help

Here are some of the questions asked during the iterview.

He is studying medicine.

2. How do u manage to pay his fees

I am having my own business and rental income to support him.

3. What is the name of your business

XYZ company

4.Is your daughter employed in US ?
NO

5. Do they have kids in US ?
NO

6.Where is your son -in -law working in US ?
XYZ company.

7.When did ur son-in-law first entered US ?

8. When did ur daugther marry him?

8. Was he working with the current company when he was married to ur daughter ?

My father answered all the questions. Thats it.The interview was over and the visa was granted. My parents received their passport within 3 days.

My Husband's Grandmother has not received her visitors visa
My husband's grandmother requested for a vistors visa twice now and both times she was turned down automatically. The officers didn't even look at her paperwork. She has paid the $100.00 twice and they took her papers. Without explaining any reasons for denial. I tried to call the consulate and they do not answer. What can we do to help this woman, she just would like to see the United States one time and to be able to say now I know why my children want to go there so bad. I am so frustrated because unless I actually go there (which won't help because I can't go in with her)I feel that this has just been a waste of money for this lady.
