Visitor's visa issued at Chennai
My in-laws have been issued visitor's visa on 28th at Chennai.

Some points:
* I have sent the sponsor documents.
* Advised them to take special care about arrangement and presentation of the papers
* I have sent two sets of originals/copies for them.
* Trained them on the possible questions and the answers.
*They are both around 70 years of age.
*This is their first interview and they have never visited any foreign country.

The questions they faced:
1. Why do you want to go? (To spend time with my daughter's family and to visit places)
2. Why do you want 6 months for this? (We want to visit as many places as we can as we may not make another trip)
3. Who is staying there?
4. Since how long?
5. How many children do you have?
6. Are you staying alone or with anyone?
7. What does your daughter do in US?
8. What does your son-in-law do?

The Consular officer looked at the documents sent by me very closely and seemed to be satisfied with them. They were issued the Visa.

Parents Visa Expired
Hi,

My parents got their Visa last Feb, but only for one year. Since they had some family engagements and obligations, they could not make it till their visa expired last week. Now i m just wondering if it is okay for them to reapply now, or should they wait for a while. Does anyone know of any such experience wherein visa was issued and not used at all.

Would appreciate your tips and help.

Best Regards,
Seema

Parents got 10yr visa.
Hi All,

Many thanks to immihelp and to all who contributed to this site. My parents got 10yr visa on first attempt.
Both my parents are retired. They attended the interview on Feb 18th(friday) in Chennai at 11:45am.
They opted for English. They went there an hour ahead and were allowed inside. The interview was ontime.
My dad took the DD's for the right amount as TTS Services sent him an email about the change of amount.
(We provided his email address when we took the appointment). Also it is better to check the immihelp website or the US consulate website
for any updated information a day before the appointment.

The interviewer(male) was very nice to them and asked the following questions. They said that he spoke very clearly.
1. Why are you going to US?
To spend time with daughter and SIL and tour some places
2. What is your designation before you retired?
3. How long you want to stay?
4 months
4. How many children you have and where are they?
One son in UK, daughter in US and one son in India

He did not ask my mom any questions.

They did not ask for any documents except for their applications and their passports.

They already had a UK visitor visa stamped for 6 months. Don't know if that helped in any way.
They plan to visit my brother in UK before coming here.

They received their passports on Feb 24th.

Sponsored by my husband. All documents were prepared as per this site.
They also rehearsed the sample interview questions from this site. It helped them answer confidently in the interview.

Good Luck to you all!

10 year Visa to myself and wife and 5 years to my Daughters
10 yr. Visa at First attempt

Thanks to this wonderful site I, my wife and my two daughters recd. visa from the mumbai consulate at the first attempt on 28-FEB.
Preparing the documents as listed on this site and also rehearsing the answers to the most likely questions asked will improve your confidence-- this is the key. also go thtough the paper prepared by you so when asked then you donot loose time.

The Lady consular officer was very courteous and asked me the following questions. No questions were asked to my wife and my daughters.
1.Why are you going to US
2.What are you doing
3.How many children do you have & their ages
4.How long do you plan to be there
5.Who is there in US, their status
6.What is your total income
7.Who will pay for trip

Some observations-
1. The consular officer was asking for lot of documents from persons who did not get the visa.Their interviews also lasted longer. We did not show a single paper!!!

2.Be truthful . It shows on your face. They rapid fire the questions. If you fumble or have to think and answer they get suspicious.

3.Be prepared to wait. Though we had a 1100 appt. our interview happened at 1245hrs.

Finally, pray to God and go.

Good luck to everyone appearing for the interview

Thankyou Immihelp once again.

Best of Luck
