Got 10 year visa from Chennai
Thanks to all who posted their experiences in this site. It gave me a lot of information to prepare my parents for the interview.

We arranged the papers they carried into 3 bundles and attached tags to all of them. Bundle 1 contained the DS156 forms, passports and DDs - Essentially all the documents which would have to be submitted by the time they reach the interview hall.
Bundle 2 contained all our documents and
Bundle 3 all the documents of proof of their assets in India, family ties etc.

I think the most important factor are to make sure they are well prepared pray hard.

Good Luck to all who are applying for their visas.

Visitor visa granted at Chennai
My Parents appeared for the interview on November 30, 2004 (3.30 - 3.45 PM IST) at Chennai consulate and they have paid the final Demand draft. They are supposed to get the passports within 3 working days. I would like to thank Immihelp for their wonderful help. It would not have been possible to know the nuances of this process without the help of this site. Kudos to them.

For the benefit of others I would like to explain the scenario faced by my mum and dad yesterday at Chennai consulate.

When they entered the consulate they have shown the web appointment and paid the DD meant for TT Services.

Then in the next counter they were asked to submit the DS-156 forms and the passports. The lady at the counter has pointed out a mistake in the section 37 of the form. Though I did check the option "Son working", they expect all the other options to be selected as "NO". The lady at the counter has done the same on behalf of my parents.

Then they were asked to proceed to the interview section and they were asked to stand in the queue right away behind two others.

My mom and dad have greeted the consular officer with a "Hi...Good evening" and he has replied "Good evening".

Consular Officer: Who is in the United States?

My mother: My son.

Consular Officer: When did he go to United States?

My mother: March 2004.

Consular Officer has counted using his hands and told to himself "8 months..hmmm".

Consular Officer : Can you show his passport copy?

My mother has given the same and he has glanced all the pages. He has taken a few extra seconds in all the pages having a US visa stamped (Infact I have got some 6 US visas in the last two years).

Consular Officer : How many children do you have?

My Mother : A daughter and grand son who live in the suburbs of Chennai.

Consular Officer : Where did your son study (University)?

My mother : **** ***

Consular Officer : Where is he working?

My Mother : YYYY XX

Consular Officer : (To my father)Where did you work?

My Father : Bank Manager

Consular Officer : Which bank?

My Father : YYYY X

Consular Officer : When did you retire?

My Father : March 1996.

Consular Officer : How long do you plan to stay in the US?

My mother : 4 months

Consular Officer has asked my parents to pay the DD in the first counter and they did that gleefully!

It is interesting to note that the consular officer hasn't looked at any other documents other than my passport pages.

Again thanks to immihelp for the wonderful support.

tourist visa refused
my father and mother are aged 62 years and 57years respectively.they were refused tourist visa U/S 214 [b],in october 2004 in their first interview.they had bank fixed deposits amounting to Rs.37 lakhs and land and house property worth Rs. 226 lakhs in india, in their combined name, with sufficent documentary proof for the above assets. both their children are in india. they applied for USA tourist visa for 6 weeks, with the sponsorship of a relative in U.S.A, who is a u.s citizen, for the last 18 years, now with an annual income of U.S $ 150,000.
no questions were asked about their assets or income of sponsor, during the interview for just 3 minutes.
can anyone suggest the next step to be taken for getting a tourist visa for my parents.
whether they can give a review petition through email or drop box ?
. or whether they can reapply through drop box, without, taking another appointment and going for another interview at Chennai, since my father is 62 years, and their finger prints were taken at the first interview

My in-laws attended visitor visa interview at Chennai on Nov 10, and were issued visa for 10 years. My father-in-law was asked only two Qs:

1) Why did not you go last time when you were issued visa?

2) What is your son-in-law in USA?

The Telugu translator asked these Qs. The Consul was busy reading stuff from his computer, but was still listening to them.

My papers were not taken for examination. I prepared DS-156 e-forms here and sent them to India.

My father-in-law is 60+, and my mother-in-law is 50+. Only my mother-in-law visited us four and a half years ago.

Good luck to all.

Parents visa got rejected fourth time at Mumbai consulate
1)First time my mom and dad applied for their tourist visa in March and their visa got rejected
under 214(b)(The reason I think that my dad was not able to hear question properly and he replied yes as answer for the question "Are you retired"? but my father is doing business(they did'nt even bothered to look all papers)

2)Second time again my mom and dad re-applied in March and they asked all those common question and again their visa got rejected(they did'nt bothered to look at any documents..again they gave the same good old reason 214(b)

3)Third time around as I was pregnant we only applied for my mom in October. And her visa got rejected again as she was not able to remember my company's name.(even though she was leaving behind her husband and 5 other children back home in India ...they gave same 214(b). She also took congresswomen letter but they did'nt bothered to look at any documents.

4) Fourth time she applied on Nov'19th. And this time around she took letter of support from Senator, congresswoman and letter from doctor stating the pregnancy reason and social ties she has back home in India. Since for past three times they were not looking at any of the documents we stapled Senator, congresswoman and doctor's letter in the passport itself so that visa office can look at it. But no luck.....her visa got rejected fourth time under section 214(b)

I still do not understand that if they do not look at documents how can they give reason 214(b)?. Is mumbai consulate minting money by rejecting several times?

Any one has any idea? comments?..let me know if anybody has gone through same things...we provided all the documents as mentioned on website and even my parents took all documents from their side too.

Hi All,

My mom appeared on 18th Nov for 2nd time for her visa and it got rejected. The officer there asked her just one question : Why do you want to go to US? She replied to meet my daughter and visit places with her. Then he asked do you have any other reason to go, she said no, this is the main reason. And he said then i am not giving you Visa.

I dont know what she should do now ? Can my dad also apply with her in 3-4 months ? Has anyone experienced anything like this... please help !!

Parents B1/B2 visa got rejected
My parents attented for Visa on Nov 8 having a telugu tranlator. The translator asked three questions.
1.Who is there is US?
son-in-law and daughter
2.How many months u want to stay?
6 months
3.Why do u want stay that long?
Since US is a big country we want to go around and see all the places like Disney etc...

The translator didnt bother to translate all their conversation in English. Looks like they are predecided not to issue the visa. The officer didn't look any of their documents

They didnt get the visa. There were 10 more couples attended the interview on that day with the telugu translator b/w 10.15 to 10.30 am on Nov 8. My parents told none of them got the visa.

Suggestion :
Its better to say that they are going to stay only for 10 weeks.
We took an appointment for them in Feb.
