Mother got 10 yr visa in second attempt(chennai consulate)
First of all, thanks to everybody who contributed to this site.It is very informative.
My mother (51 yrs) has already visited USA in 2001.But then she got a 6 months visa. So this time we had to send all the papers again and she attended an interview in the last week of July04.
She chose english since she is quite comfortable with the language. But unfortunately she got rejected. She said the officer was quite sarcastic and asked her questions like:What will you do if I give a 3 yr visa to which my mother politely replied that she does not want to stay for more than 4 months. That's it....rejected.
After reading this site i asked her to appear once again for the interview and we luckily got a date on 19th Aug.This time she asked for a tamil transalator(I guess that's the secret). The foll questions were asked.....
How long do you intend to stay in the US?
A: 3 months
How many children do you have And what do they do?
A: Elder daughter is a housewife in US and younger daughter has just finished her PG and we are looking for a suitable match for her.
What does your husband do?
A: Buisness
Why are you going to US?
A: To tour US before my comes back to India for good.
That was all and she recd a 10 yr visa in spite of the fact that we(sponsors) here have a visa only for one more year .From my experience I would suggest that a second attempt is definitely worth the trial. GOOD LUCK !

Mother got visa in Chennai
My mother came to USA twice before in 2001 and 2003.
In 2001 she went for personal interview and got visa for 6 months.
In 2003(June) she was eligible for drop box facility( as she came to US earlier)and got visa for 1 year.

We wanted to use the drop box facility again in 2004 June and have sent the documents.
All her documents returned in mail along with a slip which said "need to appear personally for further processing of this application".
Then we took appointment on August 26th as it is the only date that is available then.
we havent tried to change the date.
Then we prepared all the documents once again and also prepared my mother to answer all the questions that were earlier posted in this website.
Her appointment is at 10:15a.m at Chennai consulate.
She wasnt asked any questions except

Do you know where Smoky mountains are
  She replied Houston
  Consulate officer said wrong.
But still her visa is issued. We are happy about it.
We do not know for how long the visa was given.
Thanks to immihelp for all the help.

Visa approved in Kolkata
Hi,

Just wanted to share that my parents got visitor’s visa in Calcutta consulate on 24th Aug. Don’t know for how long as my parents didn’t ask that neither officer said anything about that. Will update the thread once they get the passport.

I am grateful to immihelp.com for the detailed information they provide on their web site. I have used only this site as my reference to prepare documents and prepare them for the interview.

My father(54) is a doctor, has his own clinic and mother(51) is a Professor in State Govt. College.

Question to my father:
How long is your daughter in USA?
Where does she live?
What does U R Son-in-law do?
What kind of doctor you are?
How many children you have?
Where is U R son? (my brother is in UK..)

Questions to my mother:
Which places you want to visit in USA?
What does your husband do?

Then asked for the I-134 and affidavit prepared by my parents regarding their personal and property details. No other documents were asked for… The bundle came back the same way…

And then the officer said ‘Ok go and enjoy USA you will get your passport in two weeks’…

They were done in probably 2 minutes…

Got 6 months visitor visa in Mumbai for my Parents!!!

Hi

Let me first thank to this website and all those who have posted their experience on this site.
My parents got 6 months visitor visa.

We have prepared the document preciously as advised on this web site.
The consular has not asked many questions to my parents.
They have asked routine questions like….

How many children you have and what they are doing.

Two years back the USA embassy has refused visa for my parents and advised them to apply only after 2 years..

This time after re-application they got their Visa…

Thanks to U all and this web site for passing on the detailed information.

Parents got visa at Chennai in first attempt
My parents went to the interview at Chennai this afternoon and were told that they have got the visa. They will receive it in a couple of days by courier. My dad is 64 and mom is 59. This is their first visa attempt. My husband is the sponsor and I followed this site and others to make the set of documents and questions. I dont have the details of the interview yet, but all I heard was that my father was asked about 5 questions, namely, what is your name, who is in the US, do you have your own property here and where does your daughter live in the US and what does your son in law do/where does he work. They were then told to pay the visa fees and leave. I will write more details after i speak to them for longer time after visa is received. Thank everyone for posting their experiences here.
