Parents got 10 years visa from Chennai onsulate
Hi All,

My parents had their interview in Chennai consulate on Oct 20. I am very happy that they got 10 year visa.
I had sent all the docs as per this site. I had also prepared set of qns and ans and sent to them to prepare.A week Before the interview I used to call up daily and ask them these qns so that they r well prepared and confident while answering. I had taken a kannada translator for them as they cannot follow american accent. This really helped. Both the consulate officer and the translator were very kind to them. They were asked only few qns like:

1. where r u working?
2. How many children do u have?
3. Who is there in US and from how long?

Thats all they were granted visa. The officer didnt see a single document. He only took DS-156 and passport. Today they got their passport with 10 yrs multiple entry visa stamped on it.

Thanks to immihelp for maintaining such informative website.

Parents got visitor Visa from Mumbai Consulate
Hey Guys,

Just wanted to let you know that my parents got their 5 yrs Visitor Visa from Mumbai consulte.
They interview was over in 5 mins and they were asked very few questions like
1) Why do you want to go to US?
2) What is the DOB of your daughter?
3)(To Dad) What do you do for living?
4)(To mom)Have you been to US before and do you have any old passport, to which she replied "No".
The officer then saw the I-134,my Green card copy and my passoport copy. My parents told me that it was difficult at first to understand the first question of the officer because of the accent but then got a hang of it.

Before the interview I made a list of questions that the consulate might ask through this website and made my parents go through those questions so that they can answer withought fumbling.

Also the key thing is to be confident and always say the truth.

Hope this helps someone, as the other experiences that has been posted helped me.

Thanks Immihelp for creating this website.

Parents Got Visitors visa
My parents got visitors visa yesterday at Mumbai Consulate.

They just ask couple of questions like what your son do in USA and what do you do here?

My father owns a business which my younger brother looks after these days. My father said, I am retired and want stay with my son in USA. That’s all, visa was granted.

Only problem was, when they apply for appointment I was on EAD (waiting for green card status) and I got my green card (I-551 stamped) 5 days before their appointment, which made my EAD and advance parole invalid. I wrote another letter to consulate in the reference of my previous letter, explaining situation. I guess that also helped.

Thanks to every one who shared their experience here, they are all helpful. And thanks for whole lot of information posted on this web site.

Visa for my grand mother
Hi,

I posted about my grandmother's experience on visa earlier (2 days ago).

Now I am back with the status on the duration of the visa for my grand mother. She got her passport yesterday and we are so happy that she got 10 year multiple entry visa. I thought that 10 year visa of late has become a rarity, especially for first time visitors. But fortunately we got it. What a relief!!

Next are the other nuisances like booking tickets, finding travel companion, medical insurance etc etc. I sometimes wonder why coming to US has to be such a big pain and stressful. I wish it would have been much easier than this. Anyways, that's how it is. All the best folks.

Anupama.

Got the visa for my grandmother
My granny had visa appointment for October 4, 2004. She had a telugu translator appointment. As expected the translators came 4 hours late and after they came, she was asked 3 questions as how I and my husband was related to her and why she would like to go to US. That's all. And then they told her that she got her visa. I have yet to know the duration of the visa. I will have to wait for the passport in the mail. But she got her visa, that itself is a big relief. I can expect her to be here atleast for six months. I am expecting a baby very soon, so the visa acceptance came as a blessing.

I would like to thank all the contributors on this website for sharing their experiences. They helped me a lot. Of course I was a little bit over prepared for it as most of them with good experiences do not come back to this website to write them. So 80% of the experiences I read were either hardships, cautions, rejections and preparations required. But they keep us in check and make us realize the reality and help us prepare better for the interview. I don't think it is required to give the list of documents I sent from US as it will be a duplication of the previous postings. If one follows all the postings, one can reasonably understand the kind of documents to be sent.

Sorry for the long note. All the best for everybody. Do write to me if you need any help.
Thanks immihelp.

Mother got visa on 2nd attempt in Mumbai Consulate
This site is great! My Husband's friend referred to us. The first time my mom went to Mumbai consulate for visitor's visa she got rejected. The only question she was asked why is your husband not going with you and she replied that he is no more. That's it. Rejected. She re-applied in couple of days later and got an interview call after 3 weeks on Sep-28. This time she was asked 2 questions - how long you want to go and how long it's been you have seen your daughter? She said that she wants to visit only for 3 months and she has not seen her daughter for the past 2 years. Visa Granted.

I would suggest to provide proper documentation like letter to US consulate, letter of invitation to your mother, affidavit of support (I-134), letter from bank stating your account opening date with average daily balance and your current balance, last 2-3 years of federal return, copy of marriage certificate, current letter of employment.

Also say the plain truth and you need to keep one thing in mind to convince you are coming back to India so be prepared to say that you have lived the whole life in India so your social life and commitments are in India and you will be coming back. No doubt about it.

Again, this site is great and thanks to all the readers who are sharing their experiences. Keep up.

Thanks
Anjana

Visa duration
My in laws got 10 year multiple entry visa in Chennai on September 2

I guess it totally depends on the whims and fancies of the officer at the consulate

It helps to carry as much documentation as possible even though they may not look at most of it.

Mom got visa in Chennai, 2nd attempt
It is good to try again if refused once.
Questions asked:
Where do ur daughter & son-in-law work?
How long do you intend to stay?
Why only 3 months?

Lots of questions about her income...

I am glad she got it but we are yet to find out for how long.Hopefully for a year bcos winter is bad in Chicago
