My Parents got 10 years Multiple visa
My parents interview was on 19th May at chennai consulate. We preffer Telugu translator, and Consulate did not ask any question, only translator (she) asked the following questions.

For my Dad:

Where are you working?
How many months do you want visit USA?
What subject do you teach?

For my mom:
How many childrens?
Where are they?

That's all. Passport recived in 3 days.
I've prepared as per immihelp.com, and I added TABS i.e index to my documents and kept in a file. My parents gave the file to Consulate. I think it's better the document presentation is important, I printed all in Quality paper (kinko's).
Consulate was not worried about any document from my parents.
I wish you all the best.

QUERY.?
Hi,
My parents applied for the visa yesterday at Delhi Consulate and they asked my father following questions:
1. What is ur son doing?
2. How long has he been in US?
3. What do u do?
4. What is ur annual salary?
After this the officer asked to pay the fees and they were told that they will get passport in a weeks time.

Now we are not sure whether they got the visa or not?

Can anyone tell me that do they take the passport and fees only when the VISA is accepted or they also take it in case it is rejected?

Mother got 6 mo Visa - 2nd attempt - Chennai on 13th May 2004
Hi Folks...

First of all this is an awesome site.
Thanks for all u'r help and tips.

My mother who is a widow [my father died in 1998] applied for her visitor’s visa on March 31st. I [her son] sent every documents according to the Immihelp website recommendations. Due to some UNKOWN factor, she got rejected. [214b ..I guess]. As she is a widow and I being her only son [ I also have a widowed sister who is a doctor and has 2 children 19yrs old & 13 yrs old - in India], they might have assumed that she would stay with me in USA.
The questions asked were....
1] When did your son go to US
2] When did your husband pass away...

They didn't look at any paper it seems.
She had asked for a Tamil translator - who was not helping much... Also my mother might have been tensed, as it was the first time she's going for an interview... It was also the month end...
Maybe all or some of these factors contributed for her first rejection....

I encouraged her and told her not to worry... I was thinking of going to my local senator for a letter...

Then the travel agent whom we applied through told me to give another letter [addressed to the consulate], which states clearly that my mother had to go back to India due to various reasons…

1] to be a moral support for my sister and her children.
2] To look after her properties.. [she has agricultural land and rental home]
3] The grand children are in her custody and it’s vacation time for them - so she could be back before school starts….

I also stated that I would be liable for her return ..etc etc ..as per the immihelp’s site
She applied again on May 13th & this time she got a good translator & she was very confident and bold….
The interviewer looked mainly at my letter to the consulate and asked her few questions on the grandchildren [my sister’s kids] & my sister…

Then he said my mother to pay the fees and have a great trip.
When she got the visa, it was stamped for 6 months [ she had asked for 3 months on her papers]

MIL and FIL got their visa from Chennai consulate for one year. FIL is 60 years old and MIL is 46. I had provided all the documents that were mentioned on this web site. On that particular day, as per my MIL, a lot of other people were being rejected, especially retired folks who were trying to get visa. She saw couple of youths getting rejected too. The questions that were asked

1) How long your Son-in-law has been in US
2) How long your daughter has been in US
3) What does he do in US
4) How long do you want to go for

They got their passports in 2 days with 1-year visa stamped. I strongly encourage folks to post their experiences on this web site as it helps others in preparing for the interview.

Mother was issued 10 year multiple entry visa
My mother was issued 10 year multiple entry visa at the Chennai consulate last week. Questions they asked:
How many children do you have, where are you going to stay, show us daughter's passport copy, how do you sustain yourself in India, who will look after your dependents when you are away, what places are you going to in the US. We had sent a huge list of supporting documents mostly whatever this site recommended. For every question they asked her she had a supporting document including photographs. The visa officer was courteous and didn't give her much trouble.
Thanks to this site and those that maintain it for your guidance.

Parents got 10yrs visa
My parents went to the Delhi consulate for visa interview this week.

They were only asked 2 questions:

1. What do you do? (to my dad)
2. What does your son do in the US?

No supporting documents were asked for! My dad offered to show the papers I had sent but the officer simply said 'not needed' and granted them 10yrs multiple entry visa!

It was a little bit of an anti climax for us because we had spent lots of time making sure we had every scrap of paper they could possibly need plus coaching them about every little thing here (like our status, company name, exact work done, where we stay etc etc) and their actual interview was over in less than 2 minutes!

good luck to everybody else who is applying.
