VFS USA visa application centers in India
All US consulates and embassy have outsourced their visa related work to a single
agency, Visa Facilitation Services(VFS). All applicants in India must apply for non-immigrant visas through VFS USA and not directly to the consulate or embassy.
Arrangement with VFS is for a period of 3 years effective Oct 1, 2005. Security regulations do not permit you to carry any electronic items (including cell phones and pagers), smoking material, or any kind of bags (except a plastic bag to hold your application papers) into the US visa application centers. Even though the staff may sound very busy or formal, you can confidently ask them questions and seek clarification from the counter staff. However, please don't ask unnecessary questions. Otherwise, they may get irrirated and may not cooperate. Applicable to some centers only: There are facilities for taking passport size photographs (in case the photograph you took is not right according to the specifications), a photocopy machine in the visa application center. There are facilities for snacks and drinks, all at extra charge. Obviously, all of these facilities are optional and it is not compulsory for everyone to use any of them. You can also call toll-free at 16004-25-0025 from an MTNL or BSNL using the PIN number printed on your Appointment Letter.
