Visa interview went fine. In the end, VO said they cannot find my SEVIS record and need more time for processing. She asked if I need the passport or if they can keep it. I asked them to keep it. She handed me the 221g slip with no more documents required.

Visa renewal for PhD in Materials Science (Fully funded).
Submitted Visa application through Dropbox on March 28th (Tuesday). Received a call on March 30th (Thursday) to schedule an interview on April 3rd (Monday). I went for the interview on April 3rd. My interview was standard, my research falls under TAL. My passport was returned and was handed over a 221(g) white slip that I will receive an email within a week. I emailed them on April 6th (Thursday) and received an email on April 7th (Friday) to submit my resume and publications. I submitted the documents on the same day (April 7th).
After that, I had to wait for four weeks checking my status online everyday. I received an email on May 4th (Thursday) to submit my passport. I submitted my passport on May 5th (Friday).
Later, my status still says administrative processing but with status update on May 8th (Monday).
Status updated to issued on May 9th (Tuesday).

I was told my the consular officer we need more time to go through the documents and handed a yellow slip with additional processing mentioned. Passport was returned and no documents were asked

27th April: Got a mail from ustraveldocs to submit mine and my wife's passports, submitted on 28th April
3rd May: status date updated, status still administrative processing
5th May: Status changed to Issued
9th May : Collected the passports with visa stamped today

I attended my L1B Individual interview at the US Consulate in Chennai and the interview was a breeze. The VO gave a blue slip in which "Administrative processing" was marked and he said this is just regular processing that we need to do and you will get a result within a week. As expected I got it issued within a week. I was initially shocked when I got 221g but then the experiences in this forum helped me understand what it is and I was able to figure out when approximately I can expect my result. So hope my experience helps others!
UPDATE - I collected my passport on the same day evening when the status changed to "ISSUED". (05/04/2017).

Officer asked me about client information, experience , responsibilities, first time travel to US, wages in US.
After that office asked my document and returned passport back to me without any slip and told they further require admin processing and it will take 4 to 6 weeks. Officer has taken my i797, i 129 , LCA, client generic letter, salary slip, LCA. No SLIP given to me and passport returned back.
Mail Recieved to submit the passport: Friday 28 April Passport Submitted.

4th May Case Change to Issued
5th May Got mail to Collect passport from facilty.
7th May Got my passport stamped with all document that taken at interview (i797, LCA, i129 etc...)
