VO says that I applied for STEM extension and at the same time I received my H1B. So, some information is not been synched between systems. VO suspects that my international travel during STEM might be reason for the issue. STEM is managed by Dept of Homeland Security and there happened to be some glitch and that resulted some information being missing in their system. I have no action to take but it takes 2-3 weeks to process.
I have return flight ticket booked for Jan 27 3 AM but i might miss if I do not hear back quickly.

My visa appt was at 8:30am, the visa officer approved 1 H1 and rejected 2 B1 visas ahead of us. She asked questions about my education, job description, location, head office location and gave 221g white slip and took the entire petitioner's packet. No additional documents were requested. No questions to my wife or kids. She said that I should hear back in 5 days if not I should contact the embassy.
It's been a week now I attended the visa interview, status shows still pending administrative processing. I did not contact the embassy as I'm reading from other readers that following up is useless.

At the time of interview I was asked if I ever changed universities in the US or if I was out of status. I said No I was not . I was then told that there is no problem with my visa but the number of I-20 s in my account does not match and it needs to be verified. The visa officer gave me the white 221g slip with a case number written on it.
I checked with my university international office and found that I have eight I-20s on file but in my H1-B application, I submitted just four.. This could be the case why my visa needs additional processing.

Here are my case details :
Interview Date : 07/29/2016
Interview questions were very general, VO collected my passport and petition and told me that I am not able to arrive at a conclusion on your visa now and I'm referring it for an administrative processing. When I asked do I need to submit any supporting documents she said, not required any for now and if required we will contact you.
After that there is no update on my case and my passport is still with the consulate :( :(
-- Case status Updated for the first time today 01/13/2017 ( After 5 and half months)
-- Visa status chaged to 'Issued' today 01/17/2017 ( No documents asked but made me to wait for 172 days)
With my experience all I can say is patience is the key when you are caught with 221g.. Good luck all !!

Previously, I have been stamped for spouse-dependent and Student visa. VO Just looked at his screen and never asked for any additional documents.
My case was updated within 3 days of visa interview. I received yellow slip with a hand written remark "admin processing". No additional documents were asked to submit.

Had Interview on 8th December 2016 was seated in waiting place for 3 hrs due to varification of documents and later received a blue slip requesting for additional documents and passport was returned to me. Sent the all the documents on 19th December 2016. Online status latest update still shows 8th december 2016. Its been 29 days so far and still waiting.
Anybody has similar experience could you please share how long does it take to get the Visa approved
