My timeline is as follows-
12/23/2016 - OFC appointment
12/27/2016 - The interview was completely uneventful. The VO asked me where I worked, what I did and how much I made. Then he mentioned he was voiding my F1 Visa and keeping my passport for H1B stamping. He said congratulations, your visa is approved.
01/05/2017 - 6 business days have passed and I have still not received my passport. The tracker says it is still with US Consulate. I write an email to [email protected] asking for my update.
01/09/2017 - I receive a response from support saying - 'Your application remains pending under Section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act for mandatory administrative processing. U.S. immigration law requires that additional steps be completed in some cases before a file can be advanced for adjudicative review. '
I don't understand whats happening. Shouldn't the VO have returned my passport with a slip if I was flagged under 221(g)?

I received a 221G blue slip asking for my resume and list of publications. I'm an environmental engineer and did a lot of biological research in my Ph.D. This is my first H-1B, and I moved over from OPT this year. I've been working for my current employer for about a year and half. I was asked a few questions at the interview about my Ph.D. research, and was issued the blue slip.
It's only been a day, so I don't expect much to happen for a while. I'll keep you posted. I'm going to be looking for accommodation either in Ottawa or in Montreal starting Saturday 11/19, if anyone wants to share.

This is my husband's case. only question asked was highest level of education.my husband holds a PhD in biology and has been a post doc before. currently in transition to a career far away from the lab- to healthcare consulting. He did get a 221g last time which was approved in 18 days, this time not so lucky! I guess peak travel time and holiday period in US doesn't help any of us in processing times!
