B1 got approved in 2nd attempt
First I would like to thanks immihelp and all those who have shared their visa interview experience. It really helped me.
Here is my experience, I attended B1 visa interview on 2-May I would more share do's and dont's bcos interview questions are preety same for everyone.
- Never use generic terms like business meetings, requirement gathering, knowledge transfer. You need explain genuine and very specific reason/purpose of your visit.
- Try to be as natural as you can
- Be relaxed and honest(very imp)
- Keep eye contact with VO even if he is not looking at you
- Do not by heart anything bcos if you even forget one word you will be stuck there and you will loose your confidence.
- Wear formal dress code which suits you most. Tie is not very much required.
- Convey your purpose and ties with your country very confidently but in polite way, dont be aggresive here
- Do not try to convence VO but try to explain it well
- There might be some idle time between two question, dont be quete that time, use that slot to explain more.
- Try to submit evidences like invite letter agenda(VO might not accept it. just try once) atleast he will be aware that you have it ready with you.
Remember VO is not sitting there to reject your application but to validate if you are the right person to get visa. If you can proove you are genuine, you will surerly get the visa.
Below are question asked to me for second attempt.

B1 refused under 214(B )
Hi,
Mine B1 was refused under 214(b) on april 23 and i replied now probabuly by may end i will get the dates.
last time i applied for chennai and this time i am going for hyderabad due to dates unavilabulity.

B1 Visa got rejected
Hi Buddies,
Today morning I went for the B1 Visa and got rejected in Chennai consulate.
Questions:
1) Where are you going
xxx,yyy state
2) How many day of stay
28 days
3) Purpose of Visit (Here was the mistake)
For Business transition and knowledge transfer meeting
Note : Business transition means we are going to take a business to India. So he understood it like that and the next question was very different and unexpected because of my 3 questions answer.
4) How long you will be having this business
I said we are having this for past 3 years and I dont know about future.
5) Are you married
No
6) What is your designation

At last he replied that this time we cannot issue you the Visa and rejected it by giving 214b.

My B1 got approved on 2nd Attempt
Hi,
I have given my first B1 interview on Apr 16th. I was very confident because I have already attended L1 and H1 interview and there was no issues at those times.
But unfortunately, it got rejected with 214b. I knew the reason because in BEP letter the duration of the stay is 4 weeks but actual duration of stay is 2 weeks. I didnt bother much because I can always tell that 2-4 weeks. VO was asking me why u need 4 weeks for meetings. I explained that it is actually 2 weeks and she didnt convince.
I have given my interview yesterday and following are the questions.
Me : Good Morning Mam ..
VO : Good Morning ..
VO : have ur visa got rejected last time ?
Me : Yes
VO : whats ur purpose of stay ...
Me : ........
VO : what kind of meetings ?

Also, after I came out , I have met one friend and his visa got rejected, the reason was , his salary was not meeting the limits it seems. He told that VO almost going to approve, but last question was salary and because of that his visa got rejected. So please aware of that also guys ...

B1 Visa Approved on 24 Apr 2012 in Mumbai BKC
I am working as a Team Leader(System Analyst) in an Indian IT company. I was in 7:45 AM slot. I reached there at 7:30. I knew that mobile was not allowed so i kept that at home only while going. Then i went inside the consulate and after that they took the application barcode printout and pasted a sticker on passport. Then i went inside main hall where fingerprints were taken. Then i waited for by token number which was getting displayed on many TV screens.
While I was searching for my window number, i got 2-3 mins late since there are 12-14 windows and all tourists/students/B1/B2 are processed from those counters only. Then i came at my designated window. 2 guys were in front of me. Both were for B1 Visa only and they got rejected. Then came my turn. The Visa officer was a beautiful slim lady wearing a shawl since she was feeling cold due to Air conditioning.

VO: Your Passport please
ME: (I gave my passport from below the Glass) Good Morning
VO: Good Morning, Where were you I was looking out for u(looking at my token number from my passport she came to know i was a bit late and did not come when she called my number)
Me: (I gave no reply here, stood still)

ME:told her company name
VO: Are you going alone?
Me: Yes i will be going alone
VO: What is the duration of your visit
ME: 2 Weeks
VO: Why are you going there
ME: For Business Meetings with users.
VO: Who are the users?

VO: I know what are users, tell me who are they?
ME: They are from Supply chain department
VO:After 2 weeks what will you do?
ME:After 2 weeks i will come back and train the offshore team so that they can support the client from here itself

One thing that helped me i think is the short duration of 2 weeks, since one of my senior colleagues in company had applied for 4 to 6 weeks in DS-160 form, but it got rejected. Know your DS-160 form well.
one issue i faced is that Visa officer looks at her monitor and says something, but we cant hear that sometimes since her mic is a bit away. So better to look at her lips when she says and say sorry could you please repeat the question if you are not able to hear the question.
Immihelp helped me a lot for clearing my interview as all questions were known to me before. All the best for your inverview.

I attended my B1 visa interview on 10th April . This is my first interview and my visa got approved.

Me: Given my passport and confirmation letter
VO: You are working with?
Me: YYYY told the co. name.
VO: What is Your purpose of visit to U.S?
Me :Explained that I am going to attend Biz meetings with various client.
VO: What kind of meetings?
Me: We are looking for enhancement in our process and also want to meet inperson as we are two different geographical locations. (On this reply VO smiled and said..Yes i do understand that you both are on two different geo locations, and asked another question followed with his smile :p)
VO: does not your company have phones? (for meeting and other purposes)
Me: Yes we do have but there are few things which can not be accomplished over the phone.
VO: Who are your clients?
Me: Mr. xxxxx
VO: Are you married?
Me: Yes
VO: Have Kids?
Me: Yes
VO: How Old?
Me: xx years old.
VO: Thank you, your Visa is approved and you will get it within a weeks time.
Me: Thank you so much.
The interview time was less than 2 minutes. He didn't even ask for any other documents such as invite letter, etc...
My observation:
1. Be Confident,
2. Straight forward answers.
3. Keep Eye Contact
4. Keep genuine smily face :)
5. Do not get panic by looking at others . Prepare a short narration of 30 Seconds to one minute to explain about you and your roles and responsibilities.
6. Remember VO is there to ensure that you are genuine in person and in papers you have submitted.
Believe in you.
