Vermont Processing Time Update
My Congressman office tried to expedite my case last week and it was denied. They forwarded me a copy of the email they received from USCIS and on there it states Vermont are processing cases with a receipt date prior to May 24th. They've had mine since July 11th so going off that I have another 7 weeks to wait. I lost my job on Friday as current EAD expired November 23rd.

12th Nov I submitted expedite for my EAD

20th of Nov - I receive an email asking to fax evidence

25th of Nov - no change still

I would have thunk that they deny it if they don’t receive evidence for 5 days???

Important reading
From my lawyer this morning:

Two ways of dealing with the Proposed Fee increases
USCIS has published a Proposed Rule to inform the public that it intends to raise almost all of its government filing fees at the end of December.

Any comments on this proposed rule must be received from the public no later than Dec 16, 2019!

Despite the fact that all of our visa applications are experiencing unprecedented delays in processing times (although there has been an overall drop of 5% in applications) and there have been continued claims of mismanagement within the agency, USCIS feels it is necessary to significantly increase the filing fees across almost all benefits.
Two of the fee increases that will be most significant include increasing the Naturalization fee from $640 to $1,170 (an 83% increase!) and Adjustment of Status (the final step in the green card process) will increase from $1,225 to $2,195 (a 79% increase!)
One of the most troubling reasons given by USCIS for the increase (which last occurred only two years ago) is their explanation of what they will do with the extra money. USCIS is largely funded by its Immigration Examinations Fee Account, or IEFA. The IEFA is meant to be used for “expenses in providing immigration adjudication and naturalization services.” INA § 286(n). However, USCIS plans to transfer $207.6 million from IEFA to ICE for use in enforcement, despite not only IEFA’s clear purpose, but also the staggering backlog of its own cases.

We ask all of our clients and friends to be aware of the proposed changes and consider doing two things:
Submit a comment on the Proposed Rule to the government and express your amazement and objection to such a major increase, especially when such a large portion of these fees will not remain with USCIS but be transferred to ICE for enforcement. Remember that at this time these are proposed fees only and the final fees may be different. It depends on the input of the public.

The non-profit Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc (CLINIC) is one of several organizations with helpful links that make filing a comment with the government on this subject very easy to do and is re-produced here for your convenience https://cliniclegal.org/fee-schedule-changes

Also, if you, or someone you know, has been considering applying for US citizenship or filing for Adjustment of Status, I suggest that you move forward as quickly as you can to avoid these new fees, no matter what the final amount may be.

NYC
Hi!

any august filer from NYC (marriage based) that their I-485 has NOT changed to “ready to be scheduled for interview”. Mine has not, and I see here most cases change to that after 2 months of PD.

Do you know if this affects the time when you get your EAD?

Best

Receipt number
Hi!

Can someone explain how to read the receipt numbers?

E.g. if I have the receipt number EAD20 YYYY YYYY - what do the different numbers mean?

I have tried to search for case numbers on case tracker but when I search in sequential order I often get errors. I also read somewhere that the third, fourth and fifth number stand for working day of the year, but that cannot be correct in this case as - friend’s number is in 900- range..

Anyone who knows?
