EB2 NIW Detailed Interview Experience
I went for my interview yesterday at Montgomery, Alabama. My category is EB2 NIW and PD for I-485 is June 2nd 2017. It was filed initially at TSC.

My interview was at 12:15 pm and I arrived at 11:45 with my wife (derivative applicant) and my daughter (US citizen). At 12:15, the IO called my name and asked to interview me first without my wife. He was very friendly and nice. He interviewed me in about 10 minutes and then interviewed my wife alone for about 10 minutes too. Afterward, he asked me to join my wife and stated that everything is in order and he will approve our case by the end of the day (Hooray!) He said that the next day our status should change to “Case is Approved” which it did not happen yet. He also said that we should receive our GCs in 2 weeks.

Questions IO asked me (Applicant):
1. Sign the Lawyer waiver form
2. Went quickly through I-485 information
3. Tell me about your work and research
4. Current work contract
5. From where and when did you get your PhD, Master’s, & Bachelor’s degrees
6. Do you have samples of your publications? (I had printed out my Google Scholar Profile)
7. Tell me more about your most recent published article
8. When & where did you meet your wife?
9. Type of housing? How many bedrooms/bathrooms?
10. How many cars you have? What make, model, & color?
11. What is the color of your dishwasher?
12. Supplement J form! (I had the USCIS instruction page printed showing that I-485J form is not required for NIW applicants, I showed it to him and he agreed)
13. Took my fingerprints (didn’t take my picture!)

Questions IO asked for my wife (derivative):
1. Took her fingerprints and picture
2. Sign the Lawyer waiver form
3. Went quickly through I-485 information
4. When & where did you meet your husband?
5. Where does your husband work and for how long?
6. Show me your daughter’s Birth certificate and Passport
7. Show me your passport
8. Type of housing? How many bedrooms/bathrooms?

Overall, it was a straightforward interview, very friendly and brief. IO told me at the beginning that he loves EB cases and that EB applicants are beneficial to the US. By 1:45 we were out in the car heading back home.
Please take all NIW (I-140) documents with you including publications, recommendation letters, grants, citations, website info about you, etc.

I hope that I will get the status update soon to (Case approved – Cards in production).

Good luck to you all.

1. Patience is the key factor. Don't track this forum every day. It will only make you anxious unnecessarily. Check in once a while, but carry on with your life as usual. Your time will come. Have faith.

2. If you are ROW filer, count yourself very lucky. People born in other countries have it really bad.

3. If you friends/family born in India; FORGET about EB2/EB3. It will never move. Try to see if you can make a case for EB1. I took time and effort to build a case for EB1A. I encourage everyone to do the same if possible.

4. Do your homework: My H1B expired in Dec2017. I did not renew it contrary to what my lawyers said. I read the law and it was not required as long as I got my EAD/AP card in 6 months. I wasn't going to burden my company for an unnecessary process. There was one month gap between my H1B expiration and EAD/AP card. It wasn't an issue.

5. I never filed any query, even though there were delays, I doubt if it has any use.

6.Interview experience. Waited for about 1 hour, called in. Took oath. Officer asked for employment letter, gave last 3 month paystubs, last two years W2 and 2017 tax return filing. Then was asked the last time I entered the US and what status. Took fingerprints. Then we went through I-485, asked name, DOB, Employer, Fathers name, mothers name, home address. 5-10 YES/NO questions. Overall lasted for 5-10 minutes.

I signed a waiver for not taking a lawyer. I knew it was not needed and didn't waste hundreds of dollars. No need to take lawyer, if your case is simple and have nothing irregular.

Approved on the spot, was said I will get my card in 3-4 weeks. Got my card in less than a week.

7. To conclude, do your homework, have patience and don't obsess about this. Your time will come, have faith, all the best!

I-485 EB2 interview for NIW
Hi, my interview is scheduled for coming Monday (June 4). I am not taking a lawyer with me. Since my category is EB2 National Interest Waiver (NIW), I am wondering if I should take support documents for I-140 which was already approved a year ago. I am talking about proof of scientific publications and citations, copies of recommendation letters, proof of grants and funding, etc..!!

The interview notice did not mention anything about this. Please if you are in the same category and have experience, share it with me. Did anyone asked about such documents in the interview before?

Medical test report for GC
Hi

Looking for a suggestion. I applied I485 on October 2017. Did medical test in September 2017 last week

I have my interview in July first week. Given India GC is retrogressed, its highly unlikely to have any progress till November / December this year. Question is if it is OK to proactively take another medical test report during interview that will avoid Medical RFE when retrogression ends

Thanks

Should i wait till Oct for Concurrent filing or file my 140 right away
Hi,

I am currently on L1 and want to initiate my GC in EB1 category. The attorney have advised me to wait till Oct and go for concurrent filing of 140 and AOS. Is this advisable ?

Is it better to file 140 right away and then when the quota opens up in Oct, can file for 485 ?

Any suggestions or comments will help.

Thanks
