H1B Approved - VFS Status - Passport under process
I had attended my interview on 16th May. My Visa was approved and the Visa Officer kept my passport. The status of my passport is - under process with US Embassy. I read there were other people who faced the same issue. Any idea in how long the passport comes back in such cases?

H1 extension experience at chennai
I had my interview on May 15th, it was a H1b extension. Mine was at around 10:00 am.

I reached the consulate at 9am itself. I was asked to wait before allowed to join the queue. Then joined the queue and passed in the DS-160 form and Interview letter to the lady in the counter at the gate. She issued me a token. Then after security checks, I was allowed to go inside.

People were waiting for their turn to get the documents verified and arranged at the counters in the first building. I was waiting for my turn looking at the display to see my token number.

After a 5 minute wait, I was called. Joined the queue and then passed in my document. The lady picked up only Passport, DS-160 form, HDFC receipt and the BEP letter from the company. She removed the barcode sticker from the HDFC receipt and fixed it on my passport and then bundled these things with a rubber band and returned everything back to me.

Then I was asked to give my finger prints in another counter before proceeding to the next building for the interview. Went to the next building, same kind of arrangements here also. Was waiting for my turn looking at the monitor. Then I was called, reached the counter .

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning and passed in only the rubber banded documents to him.
VO: Who is your Client?
Me: Answered
VO: What is your position in the company
Me: Answered
VO: Are you paid properly
Me: Yeah, I am.
VO: You work from NYC office of your client ?
Me: Answered
VO: He showed me a phamplet and asked if I have already seen that.
Me: I said no
VO: He explained me that it says about the rights of temporary workers in USA and passed it to me.
Me: Collecteted it from him
VO: Your visa is approved and you will get the passport in 3 days.
Me: Thank you very much

and left from there. Now waiting for my passport.

Thanks

Hi,

Last Friday (11th May, 2012) I went for stamping (H1). Everything was smooth and fine. Officer told me you will get your passport within 5 working days. One collegue who gave interview on same day got the message on that day itself (Passport dispat bluedart). He got his passport yesterday. I check the status in Visa Tracking system provided by VFS. It showing "Under process with ambessy". If they put it on hold how can I know about it. I didnt received any message/mail anything. Upto what time they can keep it on hold?

H1 B approved...@ Hyderabad Consulate May 14th 2012... 8:15AM
First of all I would like to thank immihelp members who shared there interview experiences...

This is how it went....

Allowed to stand in Q at 7:30 as my interview was scheduled @ 8:15...Went in at around 8:00AM....Directly went for security check up. Security check was done by 8:20...

As I submitted few documents @ VFS prior to my intreview..I was asked to move to counter where I received the documents back that I submitted at VFS...Then went to counter 9 to give my finger prints...I was to first person to given the finger prints....then they asked me to move to waiting hall..where I received a token..under H1B category ...waited for allmost half an hour....It seems some how they missed out calling H1B applicants...(as the token starting with F where not called) until some one informed about that....

Again I am the first to be called for the interview under H1B category...

Here how the interview went...

Me: Hi Sir, Very good morning.
VO: Good morning Pradeep...

VO: So what is purpose of your travel
Me: I am going to work for a project for my company.

VO: Where is you company located
Me: San Jose.

VO: Give me your LCA
Me: Submitted

VO: For how long you have been working to this company
Me: 1year 9months 14days.

VO: What is the duration of your project
Me: 2 years...

VO: Are you married
Me: Yes

VO: When did you get married
Me: Given the date

VO: Will your wife travelling with you
Me: No

VO: She will be joining later
Me: Yes

VO: Who is your previous employer
Me: Given the details

VO: What is the team size that you are going to work for in US
Me: Given appropriate answer

VO checked my appointment letter given by US company and check some thing in computer. Probably VO was comparing the company's address mentioned in petition with address on appointment letter.

Final, golden words came. You will receive your passport in a week time. Have a nice day.

Me: Thank you sir.

While returning back my LCA documents from VO, i forgot to pick it completely. VO called, sir please pick your documents...just picked those and came back..it was a pleasant experience...

As far as my experience...if company's records are correct and if you are confident about what you say....then every thing will be in your way....all the best

-Pradeep

H1B Approved in Chennai
I am currently working in the US and came down to India for stamping. These apply to the US embassy in Chennai only...

Keep in mind that the interview process is to test your ingenuity... please prepare a little bit to answer these questions in a natural and fluent fashion (and not look like a prerecorded voice because some of them were getting admin processing forms or rejects while doing so).

First and foremost, DO NOT carry any documents, not even proof of address (utility bills) in envelopes. All envelopes will have to be attested at the gate and that will take a long time especially if you have envelopes that are not open at all (they will send you outside to open them) - happened to me as I had a lot of them.

Only for candidates coming from the US - Take photos preferably in Walgreens (CVS Pharmacy didn't do a good job) but if your photo is not satisfactory, you will be asked to take a photo in the embassy (provision and setup is there already but it will cost Rs.100).

After all the processes in the outside 1st building (like arranging the documents and ten finger print), you will enter the second building where the actual interview occurs. Don't get tensed by looking at people getting rejects or 221G admin processing, be confident and keep your cool.

These were the questions asked to me and pretty much to everybody I saw coming for H1B stamping:

1) Initial greetings - SMILE and BE SMILING!

2) The person in the first building bundled my passport, I-797, CEAC barcode print out and visa appointment letter to be passed on to the visa officer, I did it.

3) Immediately after that, without the officer asking for anything else, I passed along a letter of current employment from my company saying "here are some more documents if you would like".

4) Then passed along the original visa petition with LCA.

5) She started conversing and asked the following questions:

   a) Did you finish your course in the university of YYYY (after seeing the F1 visa in passport) and the answer was obvious.
   b) What is your highest level of education - answered (Masters in YYYY engineering)
   c) How long have you been working for YYY company? (Answered and gave the date of joining)
   d) What is your position - told the position.
   e) What project do you work on? - explained the project briefly mentioning the title and 1 sentence about what it is.
   f) Who is your client - told
   g) Where will you be working in the US? – told the city and state.

6) Then she went through the LCA and other documents and was typing and struggling with a slow computer :)

7) In the meantime, to keep things cool, I started conversing asking if she liked Chennai, how long have you been here and so on - very brief and subtle (don't look desperate). She said she was from Miami, been here for a year, 1 more year to go and doesn't miss the heat nor the beach :)

8) Then said that my visa is approved and I will receive my passport within a week through courier.

Cheers and all the very best!
