Got H1B after 221(g)
Hi Friends,

First of all, thanks a ton for the members and users of this site, the experiences posted here were of immense help for me. Here is my experience:

My first interview for H1 was on 3rd March, 2006. It was scheduled at 1 PM. The following questions were asked:

Me: Good Afternoon sir.
VO: Good afternoon. Give me the documents.

He asked me about the client company and verified my B.Tech degree and then asked for the client letter. I showed him the servie agreement between my company and the client. He was not satisfied with that and mentioned that 'this does not have a value in court'!! I tried explaining him about my employer and all legitimate federal tax returns, no of employees etc etc. I must admit that the officer was a very nice one. He was patient in listening and finally very clearly explained to me that why he needs a client letter. He told me that, The filing was done quite some time back and he wants to make sure that the position is still valid and they need my service. I was even very flexible and gave me both the option (drop service or personal meet) in 221(g).

After a month I went to the Chennai consulate with a client letter, which clearly mentioned that the client was waiting for more number of resources to be deployed as per the master service agreement. On this day, I entered the consulate at 8:30 Am. One officer took all the required documents along with the client letter, asked me to wait. The wait was over 4 hours! And there were other guys with 221(g), and they were also asked to wait. what we could infer later that, the officer to whom we appeared first, does not take H1 with 221(g) cases, rather forwards to another officer (might be a senior or h1-221g expert). The second officer called my name first after an wait over 4 hours. He started asking general questions like the project and what kind of work the client does. Then comes the surprize, he said the client is not registered to do business in New York city. I mentioned about their web site address. Then even after having so much information from the internet, he said, anybody can have a web page. Then I said the client company might be doing business in a different name and mentioned that already there is a consultant of my employer working for this client. Then he checked something again, looked happy and said ok go and pay your fees. I thanked him and paid the fees. After two days I rcvd the passport by courier.
My suggession is not to loose the focus and don't be nervous. Officers ask certain question to confuse you or to check your smartness. and finally don't panic and be tension free.

All the best...
regards,
Aakash.

Hi,

First thg.. ppl who are going to the consulate with the client letter the next time ,make sure u have the tecnical description of the document which shd be about (30-40 pages).. coz i was refused on the same lines.. may be one of the reasons cud be my the proj desc was only about 2 pages.. the vo just pointed out to me saying the proj desc shd be bunch of documents.. so take care of this ..

need ur help..
i went second time to the consulate the client letter and the brief project doc . the vo said he needs the technical desc of the proj whcih wud be around 40 pages. & also he asked me to get the current list of active projects of the petitioner ,point of contact including tele number and the email id.

does this mean that the vo wants to see wat projects r going on in the company , though iam not invovled in tht. or they want to cross verify with the cliet if iam invovled in the project.
because iam invoved in the in house project as mentioned in the client letter given to me..
