Important Information About The Re-Scheduling Of Nonimmigrant Visa Appointments
Nonimmigrant Visas
Important Information About The Re-Scheduling Of Nonimmigrant Visa Appointments Made Between December 30, 2005 And January 31, 2006

***(This only applies to appointments made with VFS.)***
A regrettable error has resulted in an over-scheduling of nonimmigrant visa appointments for December 30 and for each day in January. The Consulate does not have sufficient staff to process the overbooking and we have been forced to re-schedule some January appointments to February.

We apologize for the inconvenience the re-scheduling may cause applicants and we shall make sure that applicants who booked an appointment in January will be accommodated by the end of February. In an effort to accommodate all applicants, the Consulate plans to open on two Saturdays in January (the 7th and the 21st) and three Saturdays in February (the 4th, 11th and 25th).

VFS will inform applicants of their new appointment date via e-mail or telephopne. Applicants who come on the originally scheduled date will not, repeat, not be processed. Please bring the VFS e-mail with you. The text of the e-mail is as follows:

“Dear Applicant,

“The Consulate General of the United States of America regrets to inform you that your appointment has been changed from January____________, 2006 to February________, 2006 as detailed below.

“Due to an error, there has been a significant overbooking in the nonimmigrant visa appointments scheduled for the month of January 2006. The Consulate has been forced to move some appointments from January to February”.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Please note the time and date of your new appointment and be assured that we shall process your application on that date.

“Please do not come to the Consulate on the date originally scheduled, as your name will not be in our records and we will not be able to process your application.

“If the new date is not convenient, please reschedule an appointment in March or April or later in the year. You may only reschedule via the VFS website after your original appointment has passed.”

In re-scheduling the overbooked appointments, we have moved all appointments made for December 30, 2005 to January 7, 2006. We have not changed any student visa appointments except for those scheduled on December 30th.

Please do not request an emergency appointment during January and February 2006. If any surplus capacity does become available, we shall add it to the VFS website.

Again, we regret the inconvenience this has caused you just as we regret the additional work that it has made for us.

h1 & h4 after 221(g) - successful at bombay
Dear Aspirants,

Thanks to this site for giving such a wonderful informations regarding US visa.
My experience is as follows.

I had an interview appointment on 21st Nov for H1b & H4 for my family at Bombay consulate. I had applied for all my family members at a time. It helps & specially for our family as they donot have to face much hassle (compared to if they go alone at a later date).

My appoint time was at 11.30 but we were allowed inside the consulate at appx. 12.30.
At the entry, security check & grab a wooden piece ( no idea for what it is but they ask u to return it back when u leave the consulate) for all persons entering the consulate.

Keep following documents neatly separated as they needs to be handed over to the counter giving pink token.
1. Your fee reeipt & appointment letter.
2. I-797 original
3. I-129 copy
4. Birth certificates of your children - original
5. Marriage certificate – original
6. DD for Visa issuance fees if not paid earlier
On giving these docs, they will hand over pink token with number to u.

U’ll be asked to proceed for finger print window. Be careful that ur fingers (specially index fingers) are neat & no scars, no skin torned due to any reason or no other mark on it. I had faced this problem. I had my skin torned on one of the index fingers due to winter season. It took roughly 8-9 minutes to take my finger print which I could give after 12 trials. If there is a scar etc. they will not take the finger print & u’ll have to come again when scar is ok.

After this a long wait. Appx. 2 and a half hours. Then the number came & a small interview.
Following question asked.
1. Have u ever been to USA?
2. What will u be doing in US company?
3. What r u doing now here in India?
VO not satisfied. Gave me a questionnaire containing 10 questions to be filled in & to be returned with my resume. (questions on my past experience, what am I going to work in USA etc.) Returned form & resume, VO gave me 221(g) indicating, “Some additional clearance is required in your case. We shall let u know when we get them from USA”. I asked when, she said “may be within 2 weeks”

2 weeks passed, no communiation. I sent mail twice but the same answer – clearance has not arrived yet. We shall contact u. 4th week, I called up consulate, gave details, pause for a minute, get the answer that clearance has come. U can come again for interview on any working day at 10.00. After 2 days, they also called up from their side & gave me the same answer.
I went again on 19th DEC. Reached consulate at 9.00. Long wait for 1 ½ hours. A person came at 10.30 & collected the papers from outside only for all pending cases & handed over the pink slip there itself. Again wait till 1.30. At 1.30, we were allowed to enter the consulate. No finger print this time. Directly wait for your turn.
Within 10 minutes, number was called. At the interview, only 3 questions asked,
1. How much salary r u going to get in US?
2. Have u ever been to US (to my wife)
3. Since how long r u married (to my wife)
No more questions, no documents asked for & VO said, visas granted to all.
It was a cake walk this time. At 2.00we were out of the consulate.

My experience & suggestions
1. Only reach 15 minutes earlier to your scheduled appointment. No point in going earlier than that. Even if u reach early & be there at the first place in the queue, u will not be allowed to enter consulate till your appointment. But never be late than given time else u will not be allowed at all.
2. I feel that simple casual dress, white (or light color) shirt is not a problem.
3. Confidence & Luck plays equal part.
4. Important: Do not worry if 221(g) is given. It can only delay your getting visa. But if u satisfy the requirements of 221(g), then ur visas are sure shot.
5. U can always send email to know the status of your application & they give u prompt & satisfactory answer.
6. Do not for next interview till u have not been asked & given the clearance to come there. If u go on your own w/o their intimation, u will not be allowed.
