Query reg H1 transfer/Extension
I'm on h1b and working through a small consulting firm(M-V-C).It expires on Oct-20th
My employer is ready to file the extension and asked me to submit the necessary documentation.

Meanwhile I got a fulltime opportunity which I’m interested in and they are ready to do the transfer through premium processing. But they mentioned that it would take 2 weeks for filing the petition.

Now my queries are

• Will there be any problem if I file extension(normal processing) with my current employer and visa transfer(premium) with new employer in parallel?
• When we transfer the visa, does it automatically gets extended? Or do they need to file a new petition for the extension again?

Thank you very much and I look forward to your reply.

Rahul

H1 interview at Mumbai
Hi All,

This was my experience at Mumbai
19th Aug- OFC appointment
Document- Passport, Appointment letter and DS160 confirmation
Appointment Time- 4 PM
I reached around 2 from pune and saw a big line at the Office. They asked me to come around 3. So I had lunch and reached around 3.
There are no shops around, so please carry some snacks and water and umbrella(in monsoons).
I had to wait in a long queue for around an hour, cause of some system downtime, but the process took around 5 min. they took biometrics and a photograph.

20th Aug- CONSULAR appointment
Documents- Passport, Appointment letter, DS160, I797 and supporting docs
Appointment Time-10 am
I reached around 8 30 and was told that 10 am people will be allowed after 9 15. So around 9 15, about 250 people started in a queue. New consulate office in mumbai has good seating capacity so there was enough space inside.
We were seated in an open area for about an hour, where VFS people were collecting passports and then calling people inside. Once inside, you have to collect the token and get your fingerprints done again. Then I had to wait for about an hour for my turn.
Interview Questions:
1. what will be you working on?

2. Any particular client?

3. No, then where will you work from?

4. Have you travelled to US before?

Then I had to wait for 5 min, and finally VO said that your visa is approved.

Wish you all the best!!!

p.S. -Photograph is a big confusion, I was not carrying any photo as my DS160 said that photo will be taken at ASC. VFS people were asking for photographs from everyone and if somebody does not have it, then there was an option to get it clicked there. But for H1, i did not need to get the photo clicked either.

H1 Interview with dependent who's also working
Hi,

My wife is working for TCS since 2006. She doesnt have any US Visa though.

Is it better to attend my H1 first and then take separate appointment for my spouse and child?

Or attend H1 interview taking her for H4 along with me?

As she has over 7 yeras of experience. Isnt there a chance that visa officer sees her a potential H1 seeker in future? I mean from
H4 to H1.

He may ask about her work experience and what will she do regd. her current job if going on H4 for longer period?

Thanks in advance.

H1B & H4 interview on 20th August at Chennai
Hello All,

Here is my OFC and interview experience:

OFC: 19th August
Documents required: Passport, DS-160 form, Appointment confirmation letter, photo for kid below 14 years.
Despite filling DS-160 in advance and checking wife's date of birth was incorrect. OFC asked to update the DS-160 and come back. To make matters worse, the ceac website was not working. Returned to OFC, they took wife's biometric and asked to bring updated DS-160 to consulate at the time of interview.

Interview: 20th August
Reached at 7:45am, appointment time at 9:00. After breakfast joined queue at 8:15 or so. Thanks to 3 year old daughter bypassed queue.
Documents carried: Passport, DS-160(wifes updated and old), appointment prinout, I-797, I-129 copy, educational certificates(mine and wifes), experience letter, birth certificate(daughters), sealed envelop from US employer(contained client contracts, sealed envelops are not allowed and security asked me to step out and open the envelop and come back in), marriage certificate, wedding card, wedding album. BTW, there is small cube where you can place your bags, keys and stuff while geting into the consulate, may be mobile if you trust :-).

From security scan to VO it took less than 10 minutes.

Interview:
VO: How are you? Pass the passport.
       I like your daughters dress.
(American guy with very friendly nature)
Me/Wife: Smiled and responded

VO: Which company are you going to join?
Me: Did not hear the question, asked if he was asking the location or the title?
I will be working for XYZ and ABC

VO: He rephrased, the company name?
Me: XYZ

VO: What will be working as?
Me: ABC

VO: What is your indian salary?
Me: Rs 123

VO: What is the US salary?
Me: USD YYYY

VO: How long have you been married?
Wife: XX Years

VO: Is this your first trip to work in US?
Me: Yes, but i have visited on B1 visa twice

VO: Ok, so you will going there to work for the first time?
Me: Yes

VO: What do you do currently?
Wife: Housewife

Happy ending......
VO: You will get the passport in 4-5 days.
Me: Thank you

VO: Please read the document(White, rights doc)

Me: Thanks, and was about to leave

VO: Please hold on, system is still updating.

Took a minute, he requested us to bear with him.

VO: done now, said bye to daughter.
Daughter: Waved back

So except the passport he asked for no other documents. Like many have said before be confident, calm and smile.

 Wish you all the best!

Interview - August 5th

OFC was very smooth and got done in 30 minutes. Spend most time waiting in the line to sign the entry register. The actual process got over in 10 minutes.

On interview day, we arrived at the venue right on time and we were on fast track as we were given preference due to the baby.

Interview:

Q1) Which company?
A) Company A

Q2) Current Employer?
A) Same company but as an Independent Contrator.

Q3) Salary Offered?
A) xxx

Q4) (To my wife) What's your highest level of education?
A) Wife answered

Officer: Your visa is approved.

He handed me a small booklet which mentions my rights as a worker in USA.

He didn't see any single supporting document including i797. It couldn't be any smoother I guess.

H1b, H4 approved in Chennai
I attended the interview along with my wife and son on 8th August for H1B and H4.

He asked whether it is a H1b then asked what are you going to do in US?
Then he immediately gave the pamphlet and asked whether I visited US earlier.

Then he said it is approved. No questions to my wife.

As we went with our 1 yr old son, we allowed to go in Priority and everything got over in just 20mins.
