H1 B - Approved - Fresh application
Hello All,
I would like to post my H1-B Stamping experience here as this site helped me a lot for going through the questions.

My Interview was scheduled on 4th Nov @ US Consulate, Chennai.
It took around 30 mins from the time of scheduled interview to actually appear infront of VO.
Conversation between me & VO is below
VO: Good morning Sir !!
me: Good morning mam !! ( I was not knowing her name :-) )
She started looking towards my H1 B petition ( not deeply but just a glance)
VO: What is your role in the company
me: Replied ( 1 liner)
VO: Who is your Client ?
me: Replied
Now she went inside the documents carefully. After sometime she asked
VO: What is your highest degree ?
me: Replied

Again she looked into the documents , turning over and over and finally she said
VO:Your VISA is approved and passport will be delivered to your mailing address
me: Thank you
me: Have a gr8 day ahead
VO: You too !!

All these lasted for around 2-3 minutes hardly.

All the best guys !!
Be confident and try to maintain eye to eye contact .

H1 approved.. after tough interview
Hi All,

I went for H1 stamping on Oct 30th in Mumbai. My experience was not that good but finally my visa got approved. i went to US on dependent visa i.e H4 and then applied for H1 and then started working. Q asked by visa officer are:

Q: How come you are working on dependent visa (not sure why he asked this stupid Q when i had come for H1 stamping)?
A: I went to US on H4 but applied for H1 and and started working. I have come for H1 stamping not H4.

Q: What is the H1 application fee?
A: I dont know since my employer applied for me.

Q: Are you sure your employer applied for you?
A: Yes

Q: Your husbands visa expired last month. What is he doing now?
A: He applied for visa extention and got it. And he is working at another state.

Q: How come he is working in another state when you will be working here?
A: My employer promised me to find a consultant position in that new place.

Q: Dont work for them it they break the promise.
A: Sure.

Q: Can i see your husbands visa documents?
A: I dont have them with me now.

Q: Show me your 2009 tax filling?
A: I gave him and told him it was joint filing.
(he was happy to see joint filing)

Q: R u sure your employer paid for your H1B?
A: Yes

Q: The computer doesnt say so?
A: I dont know about it then. But for me they have paid it.

Q: Do they pay you on time?
A: Yes they do and i am very happy with them.

Q: You dont have to work for bad company.
A: Yes.

I was not sure it really my company has bad reputation or he was making it up.

He gave lot of thought and finally those golden words came out of this mouth.
YOUR VISA IS APPROVED.
Enjoy your stay in America.

It was overall not that great of experience but finally i had good result.

hopefully my experience is going to be useful to some one.

Got 221G :|
Hi All,

I had my H1b visa interview today @ hyd, and got 221 yellowform asking for client-end letter and some other things.

Now my doubts are:

1) How much weight does the Visa officer's remarks (if exists) carry while reviewing the case after docs re submission?
(i am feeling like i didn't impress the VO much, coz i got messed up for a couple of questions,
Not tht i tried manipulating the facts, just got confused abt one thing)
2) Does the VO have an authority to directly Deny Visa, considering tht i was issued 221g even after my small mess up in intrw, does that mean i am being given a genuine chance?
3) Or is 221g just a softer way, before finally saying " Visa Denied" after 3 or 4 months of processing time?
4) If the req docs are again provided, are there any realistic chances of visa getting approved?
5) Esp in hyd consulate, i heard almost all NON-BEP, regular visa candidates are being given 221G, irrespective of their docs or performance in intrw, am wondering how true is this?

Some prompt answers would pacify me during this wait period.

Thnx in Advance

I had visa interview on 29th Oct 2010 at 8:30 AM at Mumbai consulate.
However I reached there at 7:00 'o clock and with my surprise there were already long queue over there.

At 7:20 they asked to make queue for people having appt. time as 7:45 however I joined the queue and they allowed me in !!!

they would ask to keep out the appointment letter and passport. At the entrance of the consulate they would verify interview letter and passport and then security checking would happen.
(need to take out belt, purse and all the metal thing that we have while security checking)

they would hand over one wooden stick on clearing the security check point. once we enter there, receptinist would guide us to one counter where we have to show again appointment letter and passport and then they would give us the "visa packet documents" and token number (pink card). once we have document they would ask us to stand in queue for finger print. (ten print).

Once the finger print is done then comes the real thing the interview. we need to wait in a hall till out token number is called out.

There are total 17 cabins in a mumbai consulate for interviews. they would call our token number to go to any of these chambers.

my number was called after almost 30 minutes wait.

below is a conversation which i had

I entered the chamber with nice smile and greeted him with "good morning, how are you sir" he replied and asked me to wait for 1 minute as he was doing something in a computer

1) give me your token
ans: I gave it

2) where are you going?
ans: i answered

3) have you been US before? how long?
ans: I answered

4) are you going to same project and client again?
ans: I answered

5) do you have any relatives in US
ans: No

6) Where were you staying before in US?
ans: I answered

7) what's your salary
ans: I gave the same number as mentioned in petiotion

8) who is your client
ans: i answered as mentioned in petition

at last he spoke sentence without question this time..

Sir your visa have been approved and you will get your passport in 7 working days. I smiled with "THANK YOu" and left a chamber quietly.

it was so easy for me.

No need to panic , but need to make sure that fact are present to officer as mentioned in a petition and need to answer confidently.

"All THE BEST" guys.

my H1b experience
My H1b was initiated by my employer back in April 2010.
It was a long paining wait until I came to know it was approved during July or August.
Then again I was waiting for the approval documets to be received by my employer.

Finally the documents were received and my Stamping was initiated.

I had to go to chennai to attend the interview.

I was so scared of the interview and a rejection would be a huge blow to me.

I was preparing in all possible ways.

Then It was scheduled on Oct 13.

I went there with all documents given by my employer and the originals of my education certificates, passport.

I went there just 20 mins before my scheduled time.( Forums like immihelp helped me, otherwise I would have to wait before joinng the queue there.)

I was allowed to join the querue 15 mins before the scheduled time.

I showed the hdfc slip , passport in an counter outside the embassy, a seal was pressed on the slip and a sticker was pasted on my passport.

Then all my documents were scanned manually.

Finally I went inside and showed my passport and the hdfc slip in another counter.

I was asked to give the finger prints of all my 10 fingers. They took one of the slip and verified something.

Out of the two hdfc slip, they took one and gave back the other along with passport. Then I joined the queue to meet the VO.

I was called. I went to him wished him and he asked me to verify my right hand middle finger print.

Then he started the qns

VO: Who is you cleint
Me: Replied
VO: What are they doing.
Me: Replied
VO: What are you going to do for them
Me: Replied
VO: What is your highest qualification
Me: Replied
VO: From which Univ.
Me: Replied
VO: Your visa is approved and would be couried to you in a week.
Me: Thank you
VO: Thank you

It was so simple than I thought and then I walked straight out after collecting all the docs ofcourse except the passpor and one of the hdfc slip.

My suggestion is just be patient and do all the home work. Everthing will go smoothly.

Thanks
Mani

H1b for spouse - 221G green
My wife went to chennai consulate for h1b interview. She had this agreement letter between her employer(consultancy) and the client.

VO : passport and petition please
VO: You have already been to US earlier?
Wife: Yes. worked on L1 for 1.5 years.
VO: show me the client letter
Wife: gives her client agreement
VO glances through the pages of it and says " I dont see your name here"
VO: "I need a letter from client stating your name. When there are 300K americans looking for job, why do they need you"
VO gives her a green 221g with the std petioner wage reports etc. along with client letter for job location and client letter sponsoring the project and petiioner agreement with client.
Wife: Can i apply for H4 and join my husband
VO: Not until you resolve this query. Otherwise you can go to US and work on H4

It looked as if the VO was hell bent on rejecting. I guess its a matter of luck folks

If anybody else has gone through a similar 221g green from chennai consulate. Can u please let us konw the time line in which they get back to us and also your experience . Thanks
