I was nervous about my interview after reading the forums. One posting was out there to scare people.

I had my H1B stamping interview on Feb 26th 2009. Despite the recession and layoffs etc I saw many officers issue visas fair and square.

I've been working for an american company for two years and I studied at a reputable school before that. My interview lasted less than 60 secs. Though the officer said he granted the visa he did say there is a small problem. He said my I-797 was not on his system. He took a photocopy from me and said because of that my visa would be delayed a little bit. He said the delay usually means I get my passport in 3 days but can also sometimes take 7-10 days. I was scheduled to fly back in 8 working days. I was worried I'd have to cancel and rebook my air ticket. And presto! they had my passport ready by monday in 2 days flat and I collected the same from blue dart on tuesday.

Don't be worried unnecessarily. Instead, use that energy to keep your documents in immaculate form and order and prepare your answers for the standard questions.

My suggestions would be:

1) Try not to be associated with shady desi consultancies that try to exploit their own people. Officers know they are dubious. Now, I heard many desi consultancies are black listed on a USCIS list and a bunch of consultancy people in MA are now being prosecuted for fraud. Serves them right and serves as a lesson for other shady desis. Go back to RTO and sell driver's licenses in india.

2) Take all the necessary documents, letter from employer, I797, diplomas etc

3) Dress sharp and be well groomed

4) Smile and speak confidently

5) Be attentive while interacting with everybody at the consulate (and also in general in the US)

Be well prepared and go there confidently. And hopefully you'll come out successful. Good Luck!

VO: Hi How are you?
Me: Good, Thank You

VO: Starts flipping through my passport and stops at my previous US visa. Your hair cut is so different from this one. You look like a different person.
Me: Smile, it does feel like a long time

VO: So, do you guys at *** company solve *** problems?
Me: Something like that. We focus on DWBI solutions.

VO: You went to *** Univ or *** Univ
Me: I clarified

VO: Your visa is granted
Me: Thank you

Mr Rao Don'e talk silly
Mr. Rao, This information is for friends from immihelp. If you have confidence on your skills you can come and get the job, before that "TO show your skills you should have some palyground, first get the playground" Peoples have tons of knowledge, but they don't have palyground to show their skills.
