H1B, H4 Visa

First of all I would like to thank this website for all the valuable information it has provided.

I had to face a very few simple questions. But I am shure it is not going to be the same for all.
I went there for a H1b for me and a H4 for my wife.

Initially the visa officer started to question my wife.

VO: Show me your marriage certificate.
My Wife: Showed
VO: Do u have any photographs
My Wife: Showed
VO: Alright

Then Me
VO: show me your degree certificates.
Me: I showed and told that I hold a masters degree from YYYY University
(After few minutes of typing some thing in comp)
VO: How many years of software experience you have
Me: Very close to 3 years
(After few minutes of typing some thing in comp)
VO: How did you get this offer
Me: From job portals sir. I was applying on all portals. I got a mail from this company, I replied for that, then I had to take few rounds of interview.
(After few minutes of typing some thing in comp)
Then the golden words
VO: Your visas are approved, it will be couriered in 3 working days.



Please see the conversation of a visa officer and a candidate when I was standing in the queue for my turn.
VO: Show me your degree certificates
Can: showed
VO: He showed the degree certificate to him and told that it is a fake certificate. The certificate was from Andhra University.
Can: No sir
VO: I am shure that it is definitely a fake certificate. Accept the truth or I am going to arrest you.
Can: very silent (Did not know what to do)
VO: Accept the truth. This is your last chance Mr.
Can: ( To the surprise of all ) Yes sir these are fake certificates.
VO: Take this white sheet, draft a letter to the VO stating that you have provided fake certificates.
Can: Sir, Please.
VO: The choise is yours, you better write it and get away or get arrested now.
Can: Started writing
The visa officer was telling what to write in the letter, at last
VO: sign in now.
VO: I am not giving you any of your certificates you have given me, ( filed all the original he gave initially), GET OUT NOW.

Please do not take any of fake certificates like this.
Your are not only spoiling the VO mood but also the putting down the hope of the other people standing in queue.

Attended my interview on 28th Nov'06 at 15:00hrs here how it goes.

* I reached VFS office at 13:30 and was relaxing in thier stars & strips lounge till my interview time. I could see many people coming for interview. I felt very confident after watching others. after that the VFS guy called us to go for the Intview, and all were headed for consulate office at around 14:30.

*Got down from the VFS bus and joined the queue for the intvw. Security check! empty your pockets. your wallet, belt, money, etc. Gave me a wooden token and asked to enter. (the guys at the security are really rude).

*Again joined the queue and submitted the I797. he gave me the a pink token and asked to go for finger prints.

* Waiting for the token no to be called. after 40 mins my token was called. went to the window and I can see a fat american lady in her 40's takin the Intvw. before me there was a guy who was giving is Intvw. I could hear the whole conversation. he was goin to work for microsoft and was issued visa easily. No was my turn gave the pink token to her.

Me: Hello Mam! (Smile)
VO: Hi (no smile)
Vo: So, ur goin to US huh!
Me: Yes, Mam!
Vo: Which University you graduated from?
Me: YYYY , and ZZZ.
Vo: Where are you goin in US?
Me: Chicago!
Vo: Which company are you working?
Me: YYYY ,
Vo: How did you get this job?
Me: I applied through a job portal Dice.com.
Vo: Ok you'll get your PP in two days.
Me: Ok Mam! (I could not belive that, was stunned)
Vo: Are you married:
Me: Ya!
Vo: Not taking your wife along?
Me: She'll join me later!
Vo: Have any children?
Me: No.
Vo: Ok When your wife comes for visa stamping she
    has to bring this I797 form with her!
Me: Alright Mam!
Me: Thankyou Mam!


Thats it guys! did not ask for even a single document! I was little nervous at the time on Intvw but there is nothing to worry about be confident! If you are working for a reputed company and your US employer too have good reputation, there is nothing to worry about at ALL! Can any body help me on this,

I registered my details in vfs site for H1-B stamping with dependent details.

First time I tried attempting book an appointment, when I clicked the day on the calendar without confirmation they booked that date (4th.Jan.2007) and said, your appointment has been confirmed.

Actually I am planning to get the appointment on 12th.Jan.2007.

Then I cancelled that date.

After that, I tried login into vfs site using firstname, surname, passport no,receipt no,birth date,mothers name and image code. But it says "Select 'Exit' button and contact help line for further information".

I know thrice we can cancel the appointment. But I don't know what's happening, couldn't login. I am sure I gave all inputs properly (when I entered the info while creating a new application).

I wrote a mail to vfs help line.

Can anybody help me on this.

Hi,
I got H1 B papers from US in the month of Sep-2006. In that papers i got some mistakes.
Date of birth and PP no.
My consultent re-applied for correction to USCIS(INS).

Anybody help me ,reg. this new papers for attending consulate(H1 B)???
When can i expect the papers from INS(USCIS)?
How long can i wait? Is there any altenative for attending consulate?

still iam waiting eagarly for papers....

please help me

Hi everyone. Thanks to everyone who posted their experiences. It helped me a lot. And i wish all the best for future aspirants.

My interview was not even for 1 minute. The lady was giving visas to almost all, and that too within 1-2 minutes interview. My interview went as follows:

VO: What is highest degree?
Me: BE from Osmania university.
VO: Can u give me ur certificates?
Me: gave them. she entered some details and verified gave me back the certificates.
VO: Who is ur employer?
Me: YYYY company.
VO: Tell me abt ur project.
Me: I am going to work on an in-house project. My project name is ZZZ. ( As i was continuing, she interrupted me and asked next question)
VO: u r going to consultancy, so how cum u have a inhouse project?
Me: ZZZ(my sponser) is into Consulatncy as well as product dev, and i am going to work for their product.
VO: ok u will get ur passport in 2 or 3 days. Have a nice day.
Me: Thank you.

My suggestion is be confident, and u will get the visa.

This site is very much helpfull for H1 B visa apirents, who wish to attend US consulate for I was reading experinces on this site since past 1 year. I received my papers last year(2005)Oct 05. But due to project work pressure in current company i could not attend consulate. More over from Jan 06 to end March 06 i was deputed to an European country for working on an project by my current employer.
I have total 7 yrs of IT exp. out of which about 2 yrs 8 months i worked in abroad(South Africa).But bad thing is i was refused US visa in 2000 becoz iam from non IT background(B.E-Production engg).

I got interview oppointment on Sept 1st 06. But they redirected me to Chennai. I attended chennai on 18th Oct 06. After 35 mits of interview VO had issued 221(g) asking to send 5 documents by drop box. Interview on 18th Oct 06 went as follows:

Interview time :10.30 reached conter at 11 AM

me: Good Morning Sir with smile, VO was a black guy with french beard(he was looking like indian).
VO: Good morning without smile

VO: Why you went to delhi?
me: sir i could not get an earlier oppointment. More over i was deputed on an project work to netherlands till march 06 when i returned back i got oppointment only on 1st sept that too at delhi.

VO: whats yr qualification?
me: Bachular of engg.

VO: which stream?
me: production.

VO: O non IT...he checked the system and came to know that am refused in 2000 becoz of non IT background..do u have any PG degree?
me: i had shown my PGDCA certificate from an local institute.

VO: sorry we dont recognize private certificates.Only Govt. deplomas are recognized.
we have to evaluate your experience.
me : ok sir. I was confident becoz i got 6+ yrs of exp. in IT

VO:where are u working?
me: YYYY co. and shown my co. ID card(all ways wear ID card of your current company during interview if you have)

VO: since how long?
me: 2 yrs 3 months

VO: whats your role?
me: Develoment lead and i head a team of 12 developers.

VO: whats your current project
me: YYYY project. Its an ERP prjt.

VO: how many modules are there in that project?
me:I listed all the projects. Look when you have real time experince ,u will be always confident. He was looking on my face when i was listing Modules of my project.

VO: whats your Previous company?
me: Sir i was on work permit to South Africa where i worked for 2 yr and 8 months for 2 companys.

VO: O South Africa? (he was black guy so he was impressed)which companies you worked there?
me: YYYY co. for 9 months and YYYY co. for 18 months total 2 yrs 8 months. While i was answering the question he was checking my passport for SA visa.

VO: on which technologies u were working there?
me: JAVA,JSPs, EJBs

VO: who is your employer in US? He allready saw my I797.
me: YYYY X co.

VO: on which project u r going to work?
me: YYYY YYYY XX prjt.

VO: is it inhouse or at client's place?
me: its going to be inhouse. When i was answering he was checking the project title in system.

VO: finally he found some thing and said is it YYYY XX project?
me: i was worried...why he is asking again? and told confidently that ys its YYYY XX prjt.

VO: do u have tech description of that project?
me: I told ys and given to VO

VO:do u have Unemployment wage report?
me: (i actually dont have my employer had not send that) given him list of all the employes at US employer's place.

VO: its not the one i want. I want only Unemployment wage report.
me: Sir my employer had send all the documents except that.

VO: please show me all your docs send by employer.
me given the folder to VO.

VO: he could not find unemployment wage report
and started printing blue handout and hand over to me saying you have to send that doc. and no need to come here again just send it by Dropbox.
me: sir i have all the other docs tick marked except Unemployment wage report. Can i produce them now?

VO: no send all those tickmarked by drop box.

So friends US consulate have all the information about US companies projects they handle and Financial information of companies. So if you try to bluff some thing they can easily trace it. In my case he concluded that my employer and project is genuiene and also i have 6+ yrs of IT experinece.But he does not want to give Visa so easily as my case is refused earlier in 2000 under 221(g).I received all documents from my US employer, sent all documents by Drop box in second week of Nov. and i received my Passports with visa stamped on 22nd Nov.

So guys when you have genueine experience dont worry. your body it self speaks the truth. If you are fake also still it may work for you provided that you present your self very confidently and finally remember US CONSULATE HAVE EVERY MINUTE INFORMATION ABOUT ALL THE COMPANYS IN INDIA,US AND ELSE WHERE IN THE WORLD.

Today morning I had Interview in delhi consulate and I got
221 (g) green from pls let me know the chance to get H1B visa and they call me any offical days between 2.00pm to 2.30pm no need to take another appiotment.and pls let me know they take another interview or not .

The VO was a lady and she was very cool my interview didn’t last for a minute also
and she did not ask me any document as well .

My interview went like this ………

VO: good after noon sir .
Me : good afternoon mam.How are you .

VO: I am fine Thank you .Which company ur are going to work for .
Me : abc company .

VO: (To my wife who was standing behind me) hello madam why are u afraid
 Come front.

VO: What is your designation there and what are your going do there :
Me: My designation is programer analyst I am going to handle there infrastructure projects

VO:How long you were in softwarae filed .
Me : I am not a software professional . I and a IT infrastructure professional
 And I am working from past 6 years.

VO: Where are you working now and what is your designation .
Me: I am working in as large bank as a team leaded .

VO: from how long you were working there .
Me : One year two months .

VO: Where were you before what is your designation .
Me : xyz company as system analyst

VO: How long you worked there.
Me: three months.

VO: Why did u left that job.
Me : I didn’t like that job.

VO: Where were you before and how long u worked there.
Me : I was with world leading IT consulting company .I was there for two year’s
One year on contract and one year of there pay rolls.

VO: Thank you .Your visa will be issued .
Me .Thank you have a great day.

She didn’t not ask any question to my wife .She didn’t asked my marriage certificate
And the wedding album also .The VO was real cool lady .
