Need some Clarification Required on the Project document.
I need a small favor from you all, those who have posted their experiences. I am going to attend my H1 interview on 16th of this month at Chennai. My petitioner has sent me all the required docs, but in the project doc., he mentioned that I would be assigned to an in-house project, but he didn't mention about any particular in-house project name. He described about seven different in-house projects in the project document, but he didn't mention that to which in-house project I would be assigned to. So could anybody let me know if the VO asks the following questions, then what should I answer:

1) Could you explain me your project details?
2) Who is your client?

My employer didn't send any client letter as I will be assigned to an
In-house project.

Thanks in-advance for your valuable suggestions.

H1B Experience
Hi there,

I would like to share my H1B Visa Interview experience here, so that some useful information might be available to some of you - reading this.
--------------Summary--------------------------
Interview Date: 7-Nov-2006, Time: 1.30 PM
Consulate: Mumbai
Visa Category: H1 and H4 (Spouse and 2 kids)
Annotation: BEP Program
----------------Docs required------------------
* Might differ for some cases.
1) H1b approval documents
2) Original marraige certificate and birth certificate for each child
3) Interveiw appointment letters
4) Demand drafts and HDFC visa fee receipts
5) Professional Experience letters
6) Academic certificates
7) Marraige album... carry a small album with photos of the important rituals performed during the marraige.
----------------Preparation---------------------
You must go through your Petition and read how your immigration lawyer has presented your case. It helps you to understand how INS Sees you a candidate for VISA.
----------------Before Interview-----------------
Goto Bhulabhai Desai Road, Corner near Signal at least 1.30 hrs bfore int/view. Get into VFS Office. They charge 150 per head for stay and provide some refreshments. But its worth - as they provide pickup and drop service to/from consulate. And their candidates have shorter queue.
They do nothing - except temporary stay.
Put all your required docs in a Plastic cover.
Goto Consulate. There one person will check you letters and sends in for security
-----------------In the Consulate Office----------
Security person checks your pack/bag. The bad thing is they ask you to remove your belt, watch, wallet etc for gents. Inside this is what happens:
1. Produce your App letter, they locate your original docs DS156/157 etc, take your Passports, ask you to goto Finger Printing. They give a wooden token. Keep it till you leave consulate.
2. The person who takes your finger prints, is most likely to interview you (it was in my case). First Left index finger then right index finger. You get a Pink token. The VO will call you by this token.
3. Now wait. The VO (Visa Officer) will call the pink token number. For families, they call all Pink token numbers and say Family. My interview went like this:
A) why are you (meaning What makes me special) going to US?
B) Where you will be based in US? (I had 2 clients)
C) How long you will be in first location?
D) What type of project is it?

Then he asked my wife:
A) How long you are married?
B) What is the favourite type of food of your husband?
C) How many people attended the marriage?
D) How many brothers/sisters their names, location your husband have?
E) Are you going to work there?

Then he said, I am issuing visas.

So friends, I would advise you to prepare well. Educate your spouse if he/she is coming along with you.

Visit Chilkur Balaji Temple- located near Hyderabad before Interview, do 11 rounds, your interview will be success.after successful interview, do 108 rounds. It worked for 8 out of 9 of my friends.

interview on 13th nov in Chennai
Hi All

I (H1) and my wife (H4) had our interview on Nov. 13th and got our stamping done without much of a hassle.

Our interview was at 8:00 am.However we got stuck up in the worst possible of prescreening queues. The Indian lady doing the prescreening was highly inefficient. We were also unfortunate to have a couple of cases with kids coming in at the last moment, who had to be let ahead of us. By the time(9:20) it came to my turn, she logged off and another gentleman logged in. He was pretty professional and double quick.
After that we went into VISA hall with the green folder containing relevant docs.

We then got our finger print scanned at one counter and moved to another queue where a Lady was busy throwing a lot of questions at a H4 lady before us.

I and wife were looking at the adjacent counter where a smart young American chap was uttering "Unga visa approved.poi vittu varunga" in broken Tamil to an elderly Tamilian couple. We were quite amused at seeing this and we were more than happy when he looked at us and called to his counter. The interview went on as follows :

vo : How are you doing sir? (he now looks deep into my eyes, the friendliness in him which was there with the elderly couple before us is not at all to be seen)
me : Good Morning Sir. I am doing fine. How about you?
(acknowledges my greeting, goes inside probably explaining his attempt at Tamil to his colleague and comes back ..)
vo: What are you doing at <my company>?
me : Explained my work at my company.
vo : Do you do coding?
me : Yeah I do. In ABAP.
vo : What other technologies have you worked on?
me : In my previous company, worked on Microsoft Technologies, predominantly .Net
vo: What was your previous company?
me : replied...
vo: do you have a letter from that company?
me : showed my first offer letter..
vo: Are you going to work at a Client Site?
me : Yes I am.
vo: Who is the Client?
me : Mentioned the Client's name..
vo: do you have a letter from the Client?
me : No. I just have the documentation of the project I am going to work.
vo : How do you know you are going to work at the client if you don't have the client letter.
me : My employer informed me about it.
vo: Can I have a look at the project doc?
me : Yes sure.
(handed over the document..he scans the entire document muttering the name of the client, then types in the website of the client in the computer...browses the site for a few seconds..)
vo: What is the expansion of the <project name abbreviation>
me : expanded the abbreviation..
vo: what are you going to implement?
me : The product that I am working on in the current company.
vo: (scans a few other docs..then pushes the docs that I gave back to me..) you can go Sir, you will get your Visa in a couple of days..
me : (relieved) Thank you. You have a great day !!!

Smooth for the most part except for a few sharp looks into my eyes..no questions to my wife who stood beside me like a doll throughout my interview..

So from my experience I can say that if you have all the docs with you (Client letter or Project documentation is a must if you are going to work at a client site), you will get your VISA stamped for sure.

Btw, thanks to all those who posted their experiences here. It gave me some valuable tips on do's and don'ts as well as boosted my confidence ahead of the appearance.

Cheers
BP

got 212(g) a month back
Hi guys, nice to read all ur experiences here.It helped me a lot when i attended the interview on 13th of october at delhi. They asked me a lot of questions abt why the company hired me, my degree etc.Went on for 10-15 mins.everything was going smoothly but then the unexpected happened.

He went inside and came with some documents saying someone by my name is having a criminal record there ( i have visited USA on visitors visa but no records watoever of this type)....so he said though i qualify for the visa , but they need to verify my identity by taking finger prints on a paper and send to USA for verification.Charged me Rs 4080 for that too in form of a draft. and gave me 212(g) form.

A month has passed but no call from them now.
Does anyone here had the same experience

Please help if i shud contact them myself

Regards

Rajeev
