H1B Stamping in Mumbai
I got my h4 converted to H1 in Jan 2005. However I started working in June 2005. I have been working straight since then.

My question is, the gap of Jan-2005 to June 2005. WOuld that be an issue? Does anyone know how I could explain it?

Also, I am wondering how the interviews are these days in Mumbai. This will be my first h1 stamping.

Will appreciate your thoughts

You can mail me at [email protected].

this is a wonderful site i thank each and every one in posting their experiences here.
Few tips from my side,

Dont lean in front of the VO, Stand straight
Be Confident,
Look into his eyes, dont be scared, dont let your heart pump. feel if not this i have good life in india too. and believe it, that will give you confidence.
Be consious about yoru answers,
No unnecessary explanations, be to the point
make sure you are ready with the docs,
on each doc stick a sticky paper telling you what the document is so that you can take the doc without searching in the pile of documents you have.
Dont put many questions to the VO.
When he is searching for something, make sure you are pleasent and you are looking at him.
Dont look here and there.
those few mins are his, he might be observing you when he is looking into details.

your behavior makes a big difference and its as important as your documents are,
make sure you guyz read each and every experience in this site, that will give you all the possible questions you might need to answer.
Finally all the best guyz,

Regarding H1B Visa Experience
Thank u very much for everone who share their experiences in this site. This helped me a lot before going to Consulate.

VO:Can i have u'r file

ME:Told the project and client

VO:Where r u going to work in U.S?
ME:Told the Employer details
VO:product or client?
ME:Told it is an inhouse project working at my Employer's place.5 min abt the product and explained my role in that.
VO:Can i have the description?
Me:yaa sure...everything i m having abt the projectdescription,market analysis,time frame,no of employees assigned to that....etc.
VO:Started reading 5-10 min....?
VO:He gave one sheet in that he marked the line "Administrative Processing" is required.
ME:He had taken my I797,I129 and project description and told he will make a call with in 4-6 weeks. He didn't see anyother certificate other than this.I told very confidently. He was satisfied with my exp also still i didn't get the H1B visa.....may be it will take sometime.
Can anyone face this type of situation....any idea of how much time the process will take.Pls hepl me.

Please respond
Dear All,
I was refused for H1B visa by Visa Officer after submitting project details.
He says that the project is not satisfactory and i dont have job in US.
How can a visa officer can decide without enquiring anything. My employer is paying $.... tax for US government and had 80 People working globally. Presently Iam working to a MNC which has good position globally and had 1000+ employees. He didnot ask any questions and also not interested to listen anything from me. What i have to do to reapply again for the same papers with USCIS. Please help me providing the details.
I am writing this to clarify that luck and Visa Officers mood plays a major role in getting visas to US.

Successful H1b & H4
Hi,
Finally I got through the ordeal.
On the day at the consulate I was asked to provide them with a I-129 petition documents which I have not received. These papers are supposed to be with the I-129 petition it self.
These are must and God knows how I managed to scrap through. So I request you to kindly arrange to send me those docs now.
Well this is how the interview went. The interviewer seemed like a Latin American lady in late twenties. She saw me open my folder and place it on the counter. It was neatly tagged with colorful Post-its. She smiled at me and started:
Visa Officer (VO): Hi, Good Morning
We: GM, How are you…?
VO: fine thank you, how about you…?
We: good thank you.
VO: (to me) who is this pretty lady with you…?
Me: (smiled) my wife.
VO: When did u get married
Me: dd/mm/yy
VO: Love marriage..or arranged…?
Me: Love marriage.
VO: (to my wife) Why did you choose him?
Wife: blah..blaah…
VO: How come you have never been to US with him (seeing my earlier B1-B2 Visa)
Wife: we were not married them.. (laughs)
VO: so what it was love marriage…!!
We: (just smiled back)
VO: (to my wife) you know where u will be staying in US…?
Wife: XX (US State)
VO: you know how much he is going to earn..?
Wife: YYYY amount
VO: What’s your mother-in-law’s name..?
Wife: ZZZ
All this time she was shuffling through DS-156, Stamping my and wife’s passport with some stamp.
VO: (to me) so do you have “abc” (My existing Company’s product) in here
Me: No. we haven’t launched that yet. But we recently launched “xyz”
VO: What is that…?
Me: Blah…blah… (about the product)…!!
She knew about it.
VO: is it like xyz…?
Me: yes. But I like “PQR” (another product).
VO: Yeah.
Me: Have you tried YYYY (My existing company’s) products…?
VO: Its not possible that you grow up in US and not eat XX products. I am granting you the visa. It shall be couriered to your place. Good bye have a nice day.
We: Thanks & Good bye.

What I personally feel is that US VISA consulate in Mumbai is cool. In my case they did not ask me 1 single document. That’s luck, but I was well prepared. There is no issue at all if you are bold, confident & establish a very good impression first on. Also other countries visas help if you have them, but it is not a vital citeria.
I wore a brown shirt, black silk tie and black trousers. My wife wore a punjabi. Wives applying for H4 need not look like brides on that day. Ideally wives should apply at the same time when husband is filing for visa. It becomes easier.
Also I feel these things are also essential:
1. Carry all documents. You never know which one might be needed. Keep all of them well tagged or handy.
2. Keep cool, its very very critical. Your fear of failure will reflect on your face and might unnecessarily invoke VO’s suspicion. Try to divert your mind, don’t discuss with anyone, listening to music is a good option.
3. Try to gain the VO’s confidence through your statements as well as documents that you have.
And finally, have faith in Him. If your destiny has it in you it will happen. I was rejected F1 visa in year 2001 not once but twice. Try hard, be honest and faithful. If you don’t have a certain document make sure you have a genuine excuse for it. Visa officers are there to grant you the visa.
