L1A Individual approved- Mumbai 20 Jan 2016
Hello Friends,

First of all thanks to all for sharing experiences and I would like to continue the trend for future visa seekers.

I am from Engineering field (with MBA) and take care of Sales & Marketing function for a company. My company wishes to shift me to US office.

Applying the VISA:

We went through premium processing route. I got an RFE 13 days after applying and submitted the answers in a weeks time. After 10 days the case was approved in US and then I went for VISA interview at Mumbai on latest available date.

We faced the interview on 20 Jan. My wife and kid accompanied me.

The interview:

VO: Hello Sir, Good Afternoon!
Me: Good Afternoon Sir, How are doing?

VO: I am fine and how about you?
Me: We are fine too, thanks!

VO: Can I have your passports please?
Me:Sure (and handed over).

VO: May I please see the I-797?
Me: Sure (and handed over one copy)

VO: Which company do your work for?
Me: I work for x named company in India and would be working for y named company in US.

VO: Are both of these companies related?
Me: Yes, they are part of same group.

VO: What is your designation in India?
Me: Replied

VO: And what would be your designation in US?
Me: Replied

VO: What would be your salary in US?
Me: Replied

VO: Please take your I-797.
Me: Thanks you!

VO: Sir, your visas are approved and your passports would be ready in 3 days. Have a nice day!
Me: Thank you and have a nice day!

The VO kept on typing during interview. I believe it was quick in my case. As all interviews are different but I prepared after reading Q&A on this forum. No questions from my wife.

I thank all who replied to my questions on this forum and wish the future visa seekers a good luck.

regards.

L1B Blanket - 19th Jan - Chennai - Approved
Hi All,
This group as everyone mentioned earlier gives you an idea of type of the questions.
Mine was similar and as I am from a non-technical background, it was a bit different from usual.
The atmosphere inside will stress you a lot. Think of it as a simple 2-min conversation and be confident to convey that you are the expert in your specialized knowledge/methodology.
Stick to what you have mentioned in DS-160 and never ever mention that you work for the client. You always work out of the client site and "REPORT TO YOUR PROJECT MANAGER" who is employed at your parent firm.

Below are the questions I had faced:
1) Which company do you work for?
2) Who is your client?
3) Will you be working for the client ?
4) What is your specialization?
5) So it’s a product that manages logistics
6) Did you develop this product and what is the license cost?
7) Is this specifically designed for this Client?
8) What is your Annual Salary?
9) How long are you going to stay in the US?
10) How long with the company?
11) And are you the only one with the expertise of this tool?

Do drop in a comment in case you have any queries.

L1A Blanket Approved on 19/01/2016
I got lots of info from immihelp, hence now it's time to pay back..

On 19/01/2016, I went to Chennai for L1A Blanket visa Interview. Followings are my observation/findings/recommendations.

At the Gate:
1. Be at the gate 15 mins before scheduled time. Reaching early will not help you extra but u v to wait outside.
2. You can carry your bag and other stuffs, but then u v to keep it outside. Nothing is allowed inside except your documents, wallet (coin is ok), belt, ladies purse, probably baby food and clothing (we haven't tried). Good thing, near the gate there is one official store keeper to whom you can keep your stuffs by paying Rs 10.
3. You have to go through several security check. Once done you can enter inside.

Inside the Consulate:
4. One person will help you to arrange ur documents and then you have to stand in a queue for submitting the visa fee cheques. Once done you will receive a receipt.
5. Proceed to next counter for scanning your/family fingerprints.
6. Once done in the next counter your photo will be taken.

At the Visa lobby:
7. Once done you will enter in the visa lobby. If you are with dependents always you will get first preference to stand in front of the queue.
8. Go to the visa interview counter only when you are asked to go.
9. Be confident. First impression is very important. Always stand straight. Suit-Tie is not mandatory but wearing it will definitely carry a weight.
10. Greet the VO. If you are going for a managerial role, you should have this much etiquette for sure.
11. Don't speak too loud or too soft. Keep your mouth near the microphone.
12. Avoid fumbling, talking faster.
13. Listen carefully. If you cant understand it's Ok. You can request VO to repeat it again.
14. Don't lean on the window. Don't try to look inside what he/she is writing.
15. Keep eye contact (must). It will depict your confidence.
16. Don't look at the other window or chat with your wife in front of VO.
17. Don't talk in your mother tongue.
18. Don't lie even you think it may go against your approval. Please remember they have all of your records in their hands, they are just asking you to verify it.
19. Sometimes VO may asks tricky questions to find out why you are required. Hence know the difference between you and your supervisor's roles and responsibility.
20. If you can show more responsibility , budgetary authority and if you draw more salary (i.e. you are an important person in your organization), the chances are more.
21. Take the interview seriously. VOs are very expert and live lie-detector. Google and prepare yourself for all kinds of questions (immihelp is a good one).

The following questions were asked to me:
Me: Good morning. How r u?
VO: Good morning. Thanks, I am fine. How r u?
Me: Thanks. I am fine.
VO: I think this is your old passport. It's not required.
Me: Oh yes, actually it has some travel history. (Intentionally I gave the old passport to give an impression that previously I visited USA)
VO: Looking at my son, is he US citizen?
Me: Yes, do you need his passport.
VO: No, Thanks.
VO: So u r working for ZZZ?
Me: Yes, I am working for ZZZ.
VO: What is your designation?
Me: ZZZ
VO: So exactly what are you going to do over there?
Me: I started talking my roles and responsibility.
VO: In the middle he interrupted and asked who is your client?
Me: I answered and continued.
VO: How many subordinates will report to you?
Me: Explained the structure. ( 5 direct subordinates and 3 indirect subordinates, out of 5 one is manager)
VO: How many total associates are working in this project? Are all reporting to you?
Me: 8 more associates are working at offshore but they don't report to me.
VO: means all at onsite are reporting to you?
Me: Yes.
VO: At onsite to whom you will report?
Me: Answered.
VO: Both of you are sitting at the same client place?
Me: No, my supervisor sits in YYY and I will be sitting in YYYY .Actually he tried to understand why my supervisor cant do the work I am responsible for. Hence I explained his responsibility as well.
VO: Looking at my wife..How long are you married?
My wife: Answered
VO: Looking at my son, asked my wife how old is he?
My wife: Answered.
VO: In USA where will you stay?
Me: Answered.
VO: Thanks. Your visa is approved. It will take sometime to complete the paperwork.
Me: Thank you.
Then he stamped on the I-129 copies, Gave back 2 copies, kept one copy and the passports.
VO: Have a nice day.
Me: Thanks. Same to you.

Can anyone share his experience regarding this question ? the validity of the visa is three years, so most of us will say three years, is not that too long ?

Below are the questions that were asked

1. Who among you is working (looking at me and my wife)
2. Which company you are working for
3. What does xxx do
4. So, will you be working from client location or your employer's office
