L1A - Individual - Approved
Thanks to others for sharing their experiences and thought i will also add mine.
I had applied for the L1A Individual visa.

OFC Experience -
Tip #1
The process itself is so easy. All you need is the DS-160 confirmation page and the visa appointment page along with passport. So dont have to bring your entire document set along with you. I saw people bringing huge bundles of documents which is unnecessary.

Tip #2
DO NOT COME 15 MINS BEFORE YOUR ALLOTTED TIME. I did that mistake and i came at 1 pm for my 2 pm slot. Had to wait in the sun for 90 minutes and Chennai Sun is still pretty strong even if it is december) .
Just come 15 minutes before your time and even if the line is long, the security will let in only the people whose appointment is next. I saw people who were having the 4pm slot stand along with me. This is not the airport and you do not need to be there 3 hours before takeoff.

CONSULATE Experience
Tip #1 - cell phone, water bottles not allowed. If you do, not a big issue. You can still deposit it next door where the guy checks your appointment letter and puts your stuff in a sealed bag for 10Rs and gives you a token

Once inside, you take a token and that is your number for the rest of the day.
You go through 2 counters. First one will rearrange your documents and put them out separately. This is what you will need to show to the officer. 2nd counter is for checking your finger prints again. Then you go to a different building which is the Visa office. there are lot of counters and you just have to watch if your number shows up on the screen.

Now to the important part. VISA QUESTIONS

1) What company are you with?
2) Is this an individual visa?
3) What is your current role?
4) What will be your new role?
5) Where will be working out of ?
6) Who will you be reporting to ?
7) How many people will be reporting to you?

and then " Ok Sir, Your visa has been approved and you will get it within 7 days" .

Tips -
1) Be confident in your answers
2) Dont have to dress up in blazers or ties just because it is a L1A visa but speak boldly and more confidently.
3) In your explanations dont give the impression that you are a frontline manager
4) Stick to what is written in your BEP letter and justification letter. Doesnt matter if it is different now or if you are working in a different project etc. Dont complicate things
5) go through this site and you will find the set of questions usually asked. 99% of the time, it is the same set
that you will also be asked. So practice it and practice it well.
6) How much ever you prepare you are bound to get a little nervous but dont let that get to you. The visa officer is also Human and his job is to make sure you are genuine, so play it cool, stick to your story and explain it in simple words.

L1A Blanket - Rejected
Hi All,

I was told and also read somewhere that PM's can no longer vouch for L1A's. It was proved right when I heard from the horses mouth, i.e the VO.

1. VO: Hi Good Morning
     Me : Hey Hi.

2. VO: May I have your documents please.
    Me: Sure, please.. (handed over)

3. VO: So you going to work with "CLIENT_NAME"
    Me: Yes

4. VO: Your Indian Salary ?
    Me : Told

5. VO: Your US salary ?
    Me: Told

6. You going as a PM ?
     ME: Yes

7. VO: (Took a while typing and doing stuff)
Me: I sensed something is wrong

8. VO: So you will be reporting to the engagement / Program Mgr there ?
    Me: I said Yes

9. VO (finally) : Sir, there is no problem with you or your documents, everything is perfectly fine, but let me tell you that L1A's is for very senior designations and people. I cannot approve you document in this category, please apply on a different category, I am giving you this document, please give it to your manager and he will understand. Project Managers do not come in the category of L1A's. I am sorry.
Me: I was stumped, and fine, who cares, I anyway wasnt that keen, but it hurts when you are rejected X-( !!

So in short, think twice before going for L1A as PM. Engagement managers, Program Managers, and Business Development Managers, go ahead !

Hi All,

First of all a very big thank you to this forum and to all the people who shared their interview experiences both good and bad. It has been of great help in helping me prepare for my interview.

Questions asked during the interview:
1. Which company do you work for?
2. How long have you been with this company?
3. What is your specialization? before i could complete he asked me the next question
4. Have you developed this tool?
5. Who is the client?

VO said that my visa was approved and should get my passport in 5-6 business days.

Tips:
1. Be confident and keep smiling.
2. Answer to the point and keep it simple.
3. Prepare well and practice, practice, practice.
4. Have mock interviews with someone who is from a non-IT background and ask him/her if he/she was able to comprehend what you spoke.
5. Have all your documents ready.
6. Carry some cash on you. I would suggest something in excess of INR 6000 would be good, the reason being if you are carrying a DD and if there is a change in the exchange rates, you will have to pay the balance in cash. The ATM is quite a walk and might delay you for your interview. Add to it the humidity and sweat.
7. Do not get distracted by interviews happening at other windows or get nervous by side-talks.

L1-B approved
I appeared for L1-B last week and I am so glad to share that it got approved.

I had promised myself that I'll share my experience no matter what the end result is :)..

So here you go -

I had my OFC 2 days before the main interview - This is a fairly simple process. Just go to the OFC where they check your DS-160, Appointment Letter and your passport. They click a digital picture and you are done.

On the main day I had my appointment scheduled at 8:30 AM. However, I was outside the embassy by 7:20 AM.
Keep your Appointment Letter and DS-160 handy as that will be checked couple of times before you enter the main building. The process from here till the time you are at the Interview Counter is pretty simple and there are a lot of associates to guide you so I'll skip that.

At the counter following questions were asked:

1. Which company are you working with?
2. What is your specialization?
3. What does the tool do?
4. How long it took to develop the tool?
5. What will be the duration of your stay?
6. What is the name of your client

I answered all of these in no time and Voila came the Golden Words " I am approving your Visa" :)).

My 2 cents:
1. Do not carry your mobiles/any unopened envelopes/chewings gums etc. This will allow you to pass through the security checks really fast.
2. Don't be nervous - I told myself that this is not the end of the World. If not L1 then H1 is also there.
3. Be thorough with your answers (Practice well). Especially the ones around your specialization.

Rest is all Luck. Thanks to immihelp I knew what to expect.

Best of luck to all the applicants.

L1B Blanket from top MNC- Pink Slip (CHENNAI)
Hello,

My BioMetric (OFC) was scheduled on 29th Nov 4PM. It went smooth.
The main interview wason 30th Nov 9PM. I went along with my wife. Reached on 1 hour in advance.

Many posts in the forum mention to reach one hour in advance. My take is that it is of no use, because in my case, I had to wait 1 hour plus the extra queue that was already there with people. If I had come at 8:45, I would have stood for at max 15 , minutes.

We went through various counters before hitting the final interview window. Some points

1) I was carrying a lot of documents but eventually only passports and 3 copies of I129S was taken from me. I believe since it was a blanket approval, they had all other documents with them.
2) I was dressed formally without tie. I think it does not matter.
3) I was asked one question "What is your role in the US ?" and I answered in one sentence. He did not ask about my specialzation at all.
4) He asked my wife "When is your marriage anniversary?". She answered correctly in one sentence.
5) He typed something on his desktop and said "Today I find your case eligible for the VISA that you have applied for".
6) He gave me a pink slip 221G and asked me to go to counter no 31
7) The lady at counter 32 asked for my resume and told me to wait for 4 weeks for the VISA. She did not ask any other question. She did not measure my height. For some cases they do.

The following are the conclusions that I would like to share
1) Arrive just in time for the appointment.
2) You have a very strong chance if you work for a reputed company in the US.
3) Pink Slip is given sometimes if he wants to cross check. In my case I am from the computer security industry so it might fall under the industries that need extra monitoring.
4) Most pink slips clear in a couple of weeks. (I have visited lot of blogs that suggest me this.)

Though my VISA is still not approved, I am very hopeful of getting it within 2 weeks.

Best of Luck.

L1B Blanket & L2 approved at chennai on 21-11-2012
Thanks a lot to this forum and all the users who've posted their experiences in this forum.

VO: Good Morning, I am good thanks you.
VO: how long you've been with this company?
Me: 5Yrs, 5Months
VO: Total IT experience
Me: 9Yrs, 3 Months
VO: What is your specialization?
Me: Answered appropriately (This is the very important questions, be prepared with this answer well ahead if you applying L1B Blanket)
VO: what does these tools do?
Me: Answered appropriately
VO: How many times you've implemented this solution?
Me: Answered appropriately.

To my wife
VO: What is his favourite movie?
Wife: answered
VO: How long you've been married?
Wife: Answered
VO: Where are you going?
Wife: Answered

I am approving your visa but it requires some additional process to provide you the visa and handed over the pink slip to me and directed me to counter 31. At that counter an Indian lady asked about qualification, past experience, siblings and noted my height. Then she gave collected both of our passports, DS160 confirmation page and one of the approved petition. I was given the case number to track the status and she said that it will take atleast 4 to 8 weeks to complete this process. Yesterday consulate website updated my case as issued and today I collected our passports from the pickup point mentioned in the cover letter.

My Observations:
Stay Calm, always have a gentle smile, answer to the point in brief and precisely, and always have an eye contact when you are answering. Always keep in mind that this is not an interview it is just a discussion.

All the best for visa aspirants

L1B rejected
Interview questions:

1) Who is your Client?
2) What is your Indian Salary?
3) What is your US salary?
4) What is this tool (Mentioned in BEP cover letter)?

My case was rejected for the last question due to, the BEP cover letter prepared by specific group in my company was not mentioned my area of specialization. I have taken a step forward and explained my specialized skills but the Interviewer was strict to what is writtern in BEP cover letter.

Bottom Line: There is no need of luck, you should give the answer to above questions promplty which should be iniline with your BEP cover letter. Do double check what is writteen in your BEP letter is your specialization or not.

Thanks to this forum, for providing opportunity to share our experiences. Finally, No "Best of Luck", just verify your docs and go with "confident"
