L1, L2 Visa

I am writing my experience with US embassy for my L1A Individual case.

I work for a US based Medical implant company and i am heading the IT team in chennai .

My company applied for a L1A Individual petition and got approved.

I was going through the forum which of great help to get me prepared for the interview .

Thanks immihelp for the feedback forum where in multiple people (like me) will be benifited and preparing ourself for the interview.

Mine was a 8:45AM appointment today (04/17) and after the doc verification and finger printing process i went to the main building and waiting for my token to flash in the screen.

My heart missed multiple beat during the time i was waiting for my turn.

This is what happened:
1.Me and my wife greeted the Visa Officer and she wished us back and said hi to my daughter.

2.She looked at my approval notice and asked is it an individual petition ?. I said Yes.

3.How long are you working for the company ?. 2.5 Yrs.

4.Are you going to the same place as you were before ? : Yes
( I was in US working for 1 yr earlier).

5. How much is your US Salary?.

As we respond to her questions, she started typing the information in the computer and said " Your visa is approved and you will get it in a week" and returned the original I-797 document.

The entire thing happens like a flash and i am very happy to come out of the embassy.

I sincerely wish every one to get their visa approved in L1 category.

First of all... thanks to immihelp for hosting a site like this.

Today, My L1 B blanket application is denied with reason "Not cleary approvable"

All are general questions only :
1. Whats your designation
2. Whats your project & client
3. Whats duration of project in US
4. Whats your specialization..

After all this, VO officer told like "your specialization is not cleary approvable, please ask your HR to apply in different category".

Not sure whats the reason as the petition is approved with the same specialization.

Questions Asked :-
VO : While she was looking at my previous visa, so you are still with ZZZ
VO : Have you gone to US before
VO : So what does YYYY does for YYY
VO : What do you do
VO : How do you do performance appraisals
VO : Who will appraise you
VO : How many resources are working for you.

VO : To my wife, When did you get married ?
VO : Is this a love marriage ?
VO : Thanks guys, you will get your passports in a week's time.

It was an easy process which has been made to look a lot tougher by ignorant Media and folks who get rejected.. The process is simple and Getting Visa is easy if you have the required skillsets and you dont need to worry at all. The Officers are helpful and are eager to help you land a visa..
Only for folks from some of the Indian SI's who arent specialist in any sense and shouldnt be applying for L1 but should apply for H1 are getting rejected and rightly so.

Anyone from Product/service based companies getting transferred to sister/parent concern in US neednt worry at all if he has the required specialization.
Also you can go in jeans/tshirt as dressing doesnt matter at all as some folks have mentioned all ready.

My L1B VISA was approved.

Below Questions were asked-
1. What is ur project?--Ans- Whatever
2. What is your experience with current employer? --> I had 8 Years
3. What is ur exp with current project?--> I had 8 Years.
4. What is your indian salary?--> I had 12 LPA +

And then VO said Visa is approved.

No questions at all to my wife and daughter

Observations:
1. Wearing Tie etc. doesn't matter--> I did not wear--> Just be in formals
2. If the case is genuine--it will go through

Thanks for this great forum which helped me a lot to prepare well for interview. We had a interview on 5th April at 9:30 and reached consulate 30 min before. Checked

with security and he directed to correct queue.
Waited for around 15 min and took token after showing interview confirmation letter.Security check happened and as my wife carried her purse, they asked to put that

bag outside. Outside consulate, there is one guy who keeps your bags/CDs/keys/Mobile which is not allowed inside and they will give you receipt for the same and you

can collect your belongings after interview. In my case this took aroung 10 min so better not to carry such things. Just carry your documents in plastic folder or in

polythene bag.

We went inside and immediately our token flashed on screen. Went to counter and waited for my turn. Submitted L1 documents to the counter and he put it in order and

gave it back. He asked to go to counter 12. But I missed this part and thought he asked me to go to next building where interview gets conducted and I missed to get

ten-printed. I went to adjusent building and there submitted L1 DD to the first counter (counter No 14) where Indian lady was collecting it and giving receipt.

And then waited for 20 min and my turn came for counter 21. VO was young lady and was very cool. Here is the conversation.

ME: Hi GOod Morning
VO: GOod Morning..How are you doing?

ME: doing great. How about you?
VO: Good

VO: Where did you came from?
ME: I came from pune last night.

VO: Oh Last night
VO: Where are you staying?
ME: Taj

VO: Oh..Is your company paying for this?
ME: Yes

VO: Otherwise it would have been very expensive for you..and she started looking into petition and system.

VO: Have you scannede your fingerprints?
ME: Not really. Nobody told me to do so.

VO: Looks like you were so exited that you didn't hear at the counter.Anyways I'll take your interview first and then you can take your fingerprints scanned.
ME: OK

VO: What's your specialization?
ME: My specialization is deep understanding about xxxSuite of applications which xxx proprietery solution and in-depth understanding about proprietery frameworks.

VO: Where this product was getting used?
ME: Here I didn't hear properly and gave wrong answer but VO stopped me and repeated question and then I said this product is getting used on all big equipments

VO: How long you have been with current company? and she was typing something some thing on her system.
ME: 6 Years 6 months

VO: She stamped on 3 I129 forms and returned me all documents with passport and asked to wait in lobby.
 
At that time I was not sure if she really approved visa? After same time One of the helper guy came to me and he saw passport in my hand and he asked, are you done

with interview? I said yes and then he immediately said, your visa has been denied and you can leave now. I told him that, VO asked me to wait as I didn't take my

fingerprints scanned. So he went to the counter and confirmed with VO. Then he asked me to go to counter 12 to the other building and get fingerprints scanned. I went

there, got scanned and came back to interview building immediately. I gave documents to same helper guy and he submitted it to VO and directly asked me to stay in

counter 21 queue. One candidate was waiting in front of me. But VO saw me and asked to come first. At this time, I thought she'll again ask me some questions but she

just took passports and one I129 form and returned me two copies of it. And said your visa is approved and will get it in 7 working days.

ME: Thank you so muach mam. Have a great day and left the place immediately.

No questions to my wife.

 Today I had scheduled interview with US consulate @ chennai 0945 HRS.

Here were the questions raised to me :

1) What is your experience in this company ?
3 years + 4 months = 40 months

2) What is your designation ?
Senior Quality Analyst

3) What is purpose of the visit ?
<should be crisp and better about tools and Specialize knowledge and project>

4) Why are you following FED ? are you going to work for BNYM or FED ?

5) Are you going to your client's place ?
Nope, I will be going to my parent organisation

6) What is your highest qualification ? Discipline ?
B.E - Mechanical Engineering.

7) How can be you be a specialized person , as there is no link between BNYM - Monetary system and Mechanical discipline ?
As i had the sufficient knowlege on Microprocessors and microcontrollers during my college days , that helped to become a specialized person on Messaging system where that plays major role in BNYM.

8) How importance of your project to the BNYM ?
Out of YYYY Trillion assets of custody , YYYY trillion were processing through ADM

Key points : Eye contact , Confidence , Answers should be short and good as they were rush to reach to other persons , Dressing , ofcourse luck to some percentage . But 60% is on your shoulder.

VO: HOw are you doing?
ME: I am doing good, How are you doing? ( With smile)

VO: I am great.
VO: She saw my BEP cover letter and said are you from YYYY company with a smile.
ME: Yes, I work for YYYY ( I am from Product Based reputed company).

VO: How large is this YYYY company now.
ME: YYYY in US and YYYY in India.

VO: Which place are you going in US?
ME: Sunnyvale, California.
VO: IS it your headquarter?
ME: Yes.

VO: Who is your client?
ME: I am not working for any client. Ours is a product Based company and i am going to work on a new Product line.

VO: OK. So what is your role?
ME: Explained my responsibilites and roles ( very briefly).

VO: What is your specializtion?
ME: This is very important question , i explained that i have YYYY knowledgein YYYY area etc
VO: OK OK I did not understand
VO: What is teh product name i am workign and where is it used.
ME: EXplaiend about product .


VO: How long in US?
ME: 36 months.

VO: She asked have you visited US prior.
ME: YES.
VO: Looked at my PAssport and said is it YOU in passport
ME: YEs In good olden days ( 7yrs back)

VO: I am approving your visa, AHnded over 2 docs and said submit one to HR.

VO: Have a great trip.

ME: smiled and thanked her.


Overall be yourself, Keep smiling and have positve thoughts, your confidence will be obviously high.

Dont get panicked by seeing other guys rejections.

These Officers are not there to reject, they just need to evaluate where youa re genuinely skilled or not.

Above all remember they are non technical people and do not worry about technicality you speak.

       I am Engg graduate with total X years X months of Experiencece in same domain. I have developed prototype which the client liked and they want me to move entire development at onsite. I also did same proejct previously for other cleints. I am the most expericned person in my team. with my experice and knowledge , client have selected me


Aftert this VO approved my Visa and handed me 2 forms and said u will receive your passport in 7 days
