L1B - Approved
Hi all,

First of all, thank you very much to everyone on immihelp. Your experiences helped me a lot with my interview.

I appeared for L1B interview on 9th Feb. My appointment was of 9 am. I reached consulate at 8:30. Stood in queue for 1 hour. They called me in at 9:30. After completing initial formalities (DD submission and finger prints) they gave me a pink coupon n asked to wait for my number.

When my number was called out I saw there was a guy from my company was just ahead of me in the line. He went in and after 10 minutes of grilling came back with the passport. I got really nervous for a second. But then I thought, nobody can take anything away if its written in my fortune. So I went in with a nice smile.

VO: You too work for YYYY company?
Me: Yes.
VO: From how long?
Me: 3 years 3 months
VO: (Looking through my docs) What is your role in ZZZ?
Me: (Started explaining my role, he interrupted asking same question again) Software Engineer.
VO: Who is your client?
Me: YYY(He asked me to repeat the name.)
VO: This is a special skill visa. Tell me about your special skills.
Me: Along with my knowledge about clients YYYY product, I’m well familiar with ZZZ’s proprietary methodologies…
(He interrupted me)
VO: Every YYYY fellow comes with the same speech. I know everything about that methodology. What else can you tell me?
Me: (Started explaining more about my domain skills. The work I’ve done so far for this client. The work I’ll be doing in future. Point wise told the special skills)
VO: Good. Now that’s what I wanted to listen. (smiles) Have you been outside India before? (Here I saw him writing on my papers)
Me: Yes.
VO: When and where?
Me: Three times. Twice to the US and once to ZZZ.
VO: YYYY for vacation? Good. On what visa did you go to US on?
Me: B1 visa.
VO: Why? N how long?
Me: Training. For 3 months each.
VO: Isn’t that too long for training? What did u learn?
Me: Explained him the training topics
VO: (Gave me few papers) Give this to the immigration officer when you enter the US. Have a nice stay there; your Visa has been approved.
Me: Thanks and have a happy day.
VO: Thanks, you too.

That was my story. Good luck to everyone who will be appearing for visa.

Just be confident and speak fluently. N don't forge to smile!

First of all a big thanks to Immihelp and all the people who have shared their interview experiences here which was of great benefit and help to me. It really helped me in preparing for my interview. Myself (for L1-B) and My wife(for L2 dependent Visa)went to Chennai for the interview. Here in the conversation that happened with the Visa officer.

Me: ‘Good Morning Sir’
VO: ‘Good Morning’
VO: ‘Are you going for Specialized skill or Managerial’
Me: Specialized skill (as I was for L1-B)
VO: ‘Which Client you are going for’
Me: I told the client name
VO:’ For how long you are working for this client’?
Me: Told him about my experience in specialized skill and the duration with this client.
VO: ‘Which Location’?
Me: Told him the location in US.
VO: ‘What you will be doing in US’?
Me: I told my roles and responsibilities in brief.
VO: ‘Have you worked for similar clients’?
Me: I told him yes and gave the names of the clients in the same domain for whom I worked earlier.
VO: For how many months you worked with these clients
Me: Told him about the duration with this client and my role there.
VO: “What is your specialized skill”
Me: I told him about my specialized skill and how it will help me in my onshore role.
VO: “Why you have been chosen from your company for this client/role”
Me: I told him about the specialized skill and that I have the relevant experience in the specialized knowledge/skill required for the client .
VO to my wife: Madam: When did u guys get married?
My wife: Told our marriage date
VO to my wife: “How did u guys meet”
My wife: Through a common friend
VO did something with paperwork and was typing something in his computer and asked for the passport both for me and my wife.
VO: Guys, Your Visas have been approved and you will get it in next 5-7 days. Good day.
Me and my wife: Good day sir. Thank you.

As others have said also, please find my obervation and preparation for the interview:

1) Prepare all the answers in writing and remember the keywords at least by heart.Dont over prepare and dont read the answers once you make an entry to the Consulate office. This will make you confused and nervous.
2)Dont go unprepared as it will make you think a lot during answering and you might stuck while giving answers.
3)Confidence is the key for sure as you might need to answer some of the questions which you havenot expected and so need to be spontaneous.
4) Show presence of mind and think fast while answering the questions.
5) Think from the perspective that this moment is crucial and you have to give your best for those 5 minutes.
5)Always maintain an eye contact with the Visa officer and dont show any sign of nervousness.
6)Luck definitely is a factor as it depends which VO you get for the interview but hardwork always pays off.

All the best guys. We can do it.

L1 B blanket and L2 got approved @ Chennai Consulate
At first - Thanks to all who had posted their experience and which gave me confidence to attend the VISA interview.

i know this moment after you got VISA interview date is a nervous time. Please stay cool during the interview and get used to the environment as many suggested already in this forum.

All the very best for your interview.

Please find the questions :

1. How long do you work for this YYYY Company?
2. What is your Client name?
   answered YYY name
3 Why do you want to go to USA?
4. How long you are working for this YYY client?
5. How long will be there in USA for this proposed project?

There we no questions for my spouse.

My observations :

1. The number of years you work for the same client in your company counts a lot it seems for L1-B blanket and i had around 5 + years of exp.

2. Know your client and be clear when you mention about the work place you will be working(Previous person before me had this question)

If you answer the quetions well, God's grace and little luck. Its your day.

PFB my observations,

1.At the entrance, the confirmation letter and Interview invite letter wil be verified and then you will be given a token with number. This token number will be your identity through out your stay at the consulate.
2.Then security check full body check followed by the bag\files\Your belongings check.
3.Next you will be entering the consulate building where you will see many counters with people standing in queues at each counter. You will need to check for your turn by looking into the LCD displays that flashes the token number and the Counter\Window number.Once you find your token number go to the appropriate counter and do the finger scanning followed by the document verification.
4.Then you will be asked to proceed to next Building.Once you reach the building watch out for your token number and the respective counter in the LCD display. Then go to the respective counter\window and pay the DD.

8.Once you see your Token\Window number in the LCD, Proceed to the respective Window and stand in the queue.
9.When your turn comes, Please move forward with a smile and greet the VO. You would not get the same from VO but keep having a smile on your face.
