L1B and L2 approved at Mumbai Consulate
Thanks a lot to all who contributed their experiences here. It helped me a lot to get an idea about Visa interview.

Yesterday my Visa L1 and my daughter’s L2 got stamped and approved.
My interview was scheduled at 8:30am but got the chance to enter inside at 9 only. So I would suggest not to go early if you have L1B. They allowed H1 and L2 but not L1B visa applicants. I read many times and even some of my friends told me that as you have kid with you will get preference but nothing happened like that.
I was standing outside the consulate for 1hr 45mins in sunlight with my 16months old baby. Even there was no place to sit. So please go only 15min early.
Also the Indian people outside the consulate who collects your passport and DD are very rude; don’t expect any type of help from them.
While collecting your DD, interview letter and passport they give you Pink token with some number, this number is important and every time you will be called by this number only.
After such long wait, I got the chance to go inside. While security checking, she asked me to drink water which I was carrying for my baby. For ladies, belt is allowed. Once your checking is done, they will give you wooden strip. Inside the consulate, water, chips, chocolates and sandwiches are available, so don’t take tension if you are going inside with kids. Just carry some money even coins are also allowed.
My number was called and some documents (which my company has already sent them) along with my passport were given to me. Again I had to stand in a queue to get my finger scanned, but my baby’s fingers were not scanned.
Now I was waiting for my token number to be called for final interview. Consulate called some numbers including mine.
When finally I was called…….

Me:- Good Morning Madam.
VO:- Very good morning.
Hi, how are you? (To my baby)
My baby responded the way I told her to do
Vo:- So you are from YYYY company?
Me:- Yes.
Vo:- How long with this company.
Me:- X yr and Y months.
Vo:- What are your responsibilities here?
Me:-Explained which I had prepared.
Vo:-what are going to do there?
Me:- Explained which I had prepared. I covered everything in two sentences and satisfied her.
Vo:- will she be going to travel with you?
Me:- Yes
Vo:- I am approving your Visa and you will get after 2-4 days.
Me:- Thanks a lot madam.
Vo:- bye baby(to my baby)

My experience with the interview was very good; I think best part the whole Visa stamping. Lady Consulate at window 4 was very nice and polite. But please prepare yourself with your answers to avoid mess-up at last moment. You won’t get time to think in front of VO. Just go through at least 5-7 pages of this site. Be cool.

Best of luck to all those who are reading this for their visa interview preparation.

L1-B Rejected
Hi all,

this site was so useful ,i have been preparing for the interview since 2 weeks from the previous experiences present here . i have all answers i suppose to tell but luck was not with me. but fault is not with me its about my current project experience.

Vo : Is this your first company?
me : yes
Vo : what is your over all exeperience?
me : 3 years 3 months
vo : are you BSc or BE or Betech?
me : i am BE computerscience graduate.
Vo : who is your client?
me : abc
Vo : what is years of experience with the current client
me : 11 moths( this is where i did mistake - i mean i have given a chance to vo)
Vo : she was looking a chart which was posted at her desk having colours on it and then " So you are having less exeperince with the current client what you will be doing for them?
me : i said i will be using my specilized knowledge on skills blah blah ( i explained only 30 seconds then i heard saying enough sir)
Vo : sir enough and handed me blue form.

i dont want to say its my fault . because the approval is happening only on the basis of chart what they have . on keen obeservation i found the chart which having colors on it ( RED ,Blue, Green) calucation based on (Education+Overallexperience+Current project exeperince) some weigtage has given to all categories( BE,Btech,ME,Mtech +3, 4 ,5,6+1,2,3,4) the caluclated amount should fall atleast in blue color. if its red its gone.

i) at least you have minimum 5 or 6 and you can also have less exp with the current clinet
ii) at least 3.5 and most part of your exp with the current client .

if you can showcase your self with one match on above criteria and if and only if you are technically specalized person no chance your visa will be approved.

i want to give a useful suggition if you are working a company more than 3 or 4 years put most part of your exeperince with the current client though you have very less experience (with in an year)with the current client .

if you are new to the company and current exeperice is less than a year then VO will be asking a question " so you have very less exeperince with the current client what you are going to do for them?" dont exite by hearing this question this is where i did mistake.

the supposed answer " Madam it is not less exeperince i have overall exeperince about (say it as reasonable years)and i was executing the similar fashion of project in my previous company or previous project and then expalian about your technical expertise and finsih with good statement.

so friends all the best .. be successful.

for friends who are not selected we have our statements "if its not US then UK" US is not end of the world.

every body says its luck because 1$ = 46 rupees other wise our home town is all ways best....

i forget to mention about the confidence --- :-) be confident that is must

Thanks.

L2 visa Approved
All the tension and time spent on collecting the documents was a total waste :)

Seeing my over active kid and the way he was pulling my papers in hand ,the US consulate security in Chennai was kind enough to push me into the line cutting it through the middle at 9.30 thought my interview time was at 9.45 AM

Once inside they just pre screened all the documents i took and jus added my husband's 36 pages passport copy and nothing else

The VO jus questioned me on

1.Why am i applying seperately for the visa ?

I told him it was because my husband's client has extended his stay to 11 months i am planing to join along with my hubby

2.Name of the client your husband is working for ?

And thats it my visa was approved and i was out by 9.40 AM even before my interview time ....

Thanks to my hyperactive baby as he really helped me to whiz thru all the places with additional priority ;)

Thanks and all the best for your interview

L1B Extension - Approved
Hi All,

First of all I would like to really thank this forum. It really gave me a lot of ideas and the experiences shared by all the folks was invaluable.

Now coming to my case, I attended my L1B Extension interview at Delhi, US consulate.

With regard to the preparation perspective, one has to be slighlty more careful about the response in this case as compared to applying a fresh L1B.... here is are transcripts from my interview

Me: Hello, How are you doing Sir (with a smile)
VO: I'm good... your documents , pls?
Me: (handed over the docs to him)
VO: (Spent about 10 secs looking at my docs and my Passport) and then finally asked - " So you have already been to the US?
ME: Yes sir, I have and this is a extension application of my current Project.
VO: So are you still working with the same company, for whom your Original L1B was granted?
ME: Yes Sir, it is the same. and i am also working for the same client and Project.
VO: Ok, Looks good... ( he was quickly glancing at my passport ) and your VISA is Approved and you will be getting your passport in 3-5 days. have a good day..
Me: Thank You and you too

over all, my interview was pretty quick and short, based on my observation, the mind set of the VO was that if the candidate is still with the same client, project for which your original L1B was approved, then getting an extension is not hard. else, probably, you are going to face lot of questions.

and in Delhi consulate, they have dedicated counters for each type of VISA, So all L1B where interviewed by one person on the day. and he seemed to be pretty knowledgebale of IT stuffs..for some of the other candidated who attaneded fresh L1B's he was rejecting when they were quoting indistry standard technologies (Java, dot net, PL/SQL, Oracle DBA, etc..)as their specialized knowlwged as any one can get trained on them so why are you being sent and so on.

So be careful in giving a response that is not a common skill and also how you have managed to pick up the speacialized skill and how you are going to use it for your US assignement.

All the best folks!!!

L1B Blanket approved - 14/05/10 - Kolkata
We had a rather easy interview (probably for our earlier travel to US, or for the company/client or my good yrs of experience with the current employer).

We(self, spouse and our one yr old) had the schedule for 8:15 AM. At around 7:45 AM they called the candidates for 8:15 AM slot to be in the queue for security check. Fortunately they allowed us to carry our son's water bottle inside. The security people inside are very co-operative, and guide properly.

One good thing is they have made little bit of privacy for the interview counters by covering those partially, so you will not be embarrassed to see the waiting public see your ordeal when you are being grilled.

Counter-4
Submitted all documents at our turn as per our Travel Desk had provided.
They returned back the application form print out and photo.
Asked my designation, and asked to wait till my turn comes for interview.

Interview:
Called my name, and while I approached the counter, signaled to bring my family along, but later seeing my wife and son behind, said to come on.
Myself: Good Morning Sir
VO: Good Morning
Asked for the finger prints at the same counter. Done.
(My son was trying to be playful with me at this time, the VO was very polite and tried to speak with him, which gave me some confidence in turn..:))
VO: It seems you travelled to US earlier?
Myself: Yes sir
VO: Where did you stay?
Myself: xyz city
VO: Which city you are travelling now?
Myself: xyz
VO: Who is the client?
Myself: xyz is my client, and abc is the end client (Imp: has to be answered this way for L1B)
VO: How long have you been with xyz company?
Myself: 7 yrs sir
All this time he was doing something on his system, and asking these questions. I now realized that my wife and son are not with me, she took him little farther as he was making noise, so I tried to call her, but the VO said "that's okay, that's okay". (so no questions to my wife). Then came the golden words that visa is approved for all three of us, and we will get the passport back in a week's time.

My two cents:
I had done some ground work, based on the experiences shared on immihelp, and also our company's visa desk's briefing. And would like to share that the following qu is of most importance for L1B, I am fortunate though not to be grilled along this qu.:
- Your specialized knowledge : pls write a paragraph and memorise it, as it will give you the much needed confidence.
Be better prepared and be confident. Thats the key.

Thanks to immihelp and all those who have shared their experiences !
