Urgent Help needed
Dear learned community members, trust you all are doing well.

My wife has her L1 B (specialized knowledge) visa interview scheduled on 3rd Jan in Chennai and I would be her dependent L2.

I would be highly obliged if you could answer the below queries that we have:

1. After reading through more than 700 interview experiences, I came to realize that if you mention about sitting at client location /or doing work specific to a client on L1B, the chances of rejection becomes very very high.
In the L1B petition of my wife filed by a leading technology MNC, it is mentioned that she would be working out of Client location. They have also mentioned in the petition that while doing so, she would be under direct supervision of the Petitioner itself.
Does this in any way help us?

2. My wife has developed a proprietary tool for this technology MNC. But in the answers , we are saying that she is going to US to customize that tool for client and all our answers then automatically revolves around the client. I am not sure if this is correct or not. Request some seniors to guide us whether we should mention about the client or not as in the petition it has been mentioned that she is going for client work.

3. My wife's surname before marriage was 'X' which is also mentioned in her Passport.
But by mistake in the Marriage certificate, we wrote her surname as 'Y' which is my surname. But in the MC, her fathers name and her permanent address is same as passport.
Now will it create any problems for the L2 dependent. We do not have the time for changing the names in the passport or marriage certificate. Could you please suggest an alternative for this?

I know am asking too many questions, but would be grateful if someone could help me answer this as the interview date is just knocking on the doors and we are getting tensed.

L2 visa
Would anyone know how frequently marriage certificate is being requested for L2? I do realize that it's mentioned as mandatory. We have lost/misplaced ours and a duplicate would take time. Iam hoping that wedding snaps, invitation letter etc. might suffice. What are the chances for the wedding certificate will be requested by the consular officer? It's been 17 plus years since our marriage. Any information would be helpful.

L1A blanket approved at Chennai
I had my visa interview on Dec 11 in Chennai. My husband accompanied me as a dependant. The questions asked were an amalgamation of what has been posted here by many people.
- What is your role?
- Salary
- Who do you report to, who does that person report to...she asked for the reporting lines until 4 levels up
- Detailed job description i.e. day to day duties
- How long have we been married

To my husband she asked what we did on our wedding anniversary this year.

Essentially, it is a pretty straightforward interview. One needs to be confident and well-prepared. If you have a solid case, there is no reason for not getting your visa approved.

Can anyone confirm when you are applying for L1B blanket if it is restricted to work from company affiliated office only ? or client location is also works while you are in US .

My L1B visa interview experience at Chennai - Approved
Hi All,

First of all thank you so much for adding your experience over here. It helped a lot because the interviewer asked most of the same questions which I found here.

I do have one big recommendation to all of you, go with full confidence without any doubt and fear. They ask very simple questions.

For me they mostly ask questions related to my specialised knowledge and what I am going to do. Interviewer also asked the salary over there and in current as well.

For my wife interviewer asked below questions.
1. How long you have been married?
2. Can I see your marriage album?
3. How you got to know each other?

After few questions the interviewer took 5 min to check something from his side and he told us that I am approving your Visa.

 Thank you.

Overall go with no any fear or doubt.

Thanks.

L1B to L1A conversion and extension
Hi Everyone ,

Sharing my experience for a L1B to L1A conversion today. This forum has been very helpful to me in preparing for the interview so many thanks to everyone who has shared their experience.

Biometrics:

had a 7:30 am appointment in Mexico city , reached by 7:15 . Stood in line for a while. Line was moving fairly fast.
They checked the DS-160 confirmation and appointment letter and let me in.
Since I was applying for a L Visa , there was a separate window and the process was finished in under a minute. I was out by 7:35 am.

Consular interview:

Had a 8:15 appointment. Reached at 7:45. They checked the DS160 confirmation and sent me to a separate queue.
Then went through a security check and was let into the interview hall. Please note any sort of electronics is not allowed. This includes smartwatches as well.

Then was directed to the line for fees payment of $500 which I paid by card. After this was directed to another queue.

Interview experience:

Q: Said something in spanish, then realized I did not understand so switched to English.

Q : Are you on a L1 visa right now
A: yes ma'am I am

Q: So how long are you in Mexico
A: told her, she said she will try and get my visa before then.

Q : And did you get your visa in Chennai ?
A: yes ma'am i did

Q : And do you still work for YYYY ?
A: Yes ma'am I do

Q And what do you do there?
A: Explained what my team does there

Then she said she is approving my visa. Handed one copy of I129S back to me. Said she will try to get the visa before planned departure date but cannot promise.

I was out by 9 am.

Observation:

Confidence is key. Please go through all the experiences in this forum before you go for interview. I was not asked any detailed questions apart from what I do. Did not even ask me my salary. But the preparation helped in feeling confident.

Thank you all and all the best to all of you.

L1B Blanket Approved @Chennai
HI All,

My application for L1B blanket was approved yesterday.

Consulate did ask specific questions that are already posted here.

Prepare Well and mainly prepare your Answers in very very Simple terms and form it in 1-2 lines of statement.
Be calm, Consulate may ask a tricky question or try to drill down on your answers, but stay Calm and stick to what you have prepared.

All the Best!!!

L1A Blanket - Approved @ Chennai
Goes without saying - a big thank you to everyone who has been posting - very helpful indeed!

Pretty smooth experience at the consulate - I had my appointment at 9:30 AM - reached there at 9:15 and was out of the consulate by 10 AM!! This was on Friday, the 7th Dec. and most likely because I was asked to jump queues since I had my 7 year old son accompanying me. The Visa Officer (window no. 25) was a funny guy - asked a lot of questions/ cross questioning and making all kinds of faces for 1-2 questions. Below was what he asked me (after scanning through my passport for all the visas and immigration stamping - I do travel frequently for work):

1. Which organization? (Made faces when I replied - he had probably not heard of it and asked again)
2. What does it do?
3. Why had you been to Saudi? (Certainly specific to my case)
4. What will be your designation there? (again made faces and asked me to repeat)
5. What's your role?
6. How many direct reportees?
7. Would you work at client location?
8. Which place?
9. How much salary?
10. Who will you report to in US?
11. How many projects will you work on?
12. How come you will work on x projects and have only x reportees (again, specific to my case)

Now to my kid: (No questions to my spouse)
1. How old you you?
2. Do you go to school?
3. Which grade?

In the mean time he realized his stamp was missing and informed me - "Someone stole my stamp!! Let me get that" and went around for about a minute hunting for his stamp. Once he returned he informed that the visa is approved.

All the best everyone!
