Delay in OCI process
Hello,

I initiated OCI process for my daughter during Dec last week and status of my application remains as 'Under Process at Embassy' since Jan 16th 2017. There has been no progress since then. I have called CKGS customer care multiple times and they have escalated to Houston CGI center manager. The only response I get is my application is still pending with Indian Embassy and they can update only when Embassy responds. They acknowledge that my case has delayed way beyond the normal timelines but suggest only option I have is to wait.
Has anyone gone through such experience and any advise to expedite my case?

Thanks
Arun

Would you know if my spouse (US citizen and US national) will be covered for entry and travel to India because I have an OCI? Will he need an additional visa?
Thanks!

My new born's OCI application status on Gov. site is 'PROCESSED' and Dispatched from Delhi on Mar 24,2017, but didn't reach HOUSTON yet. Does it usually take this long? I am worried because i have travel plans this month.

Any response is appreciated.

My OCI Card Experience
It took me three months from the day I submitted my application to the day I got the OCI card for my minor daughter.

In government website, they had written it will take 42 days, but due to a backlog, it will take much more than 42 days (this depends on which consulate you submitted your application). It seems Washington DC has a big backlog and it takes more time. I had applied through the Washington DC Mission.

The good part of the process is Verification and return of the US passport takes <= 2 weeks.

Then comes the long wait, since the OCI card has to be printed in Delhi, The status can be followed on the government website and ckgs cannot help you regarding the timeline. Maybe, embassy can improve the process, but I believe they really want to delay sending an OCI card for some valid reason.

Even after the printed OCI card is sent back, they took about 2 weeks in the local DC embassy to dispatch it back to ckgs.

So (if you ask me), the learning is this: Do your OCI when you have no travel plans for at least 3-4 months. Otherwise, if you want to be quickly travel ready, do not go for OCI.

Here is the my timeline:-

Jan 13, 2017 - Application ‘Received’ by CKGS and 'Not Verified'.

Jan 16, 2017 - Application Verification is ‘Complete’. Processing of your application will continue.
Jan 16, 2017 - Application is 'In Transit' to the Embassy.
Jan 16, 2017 - Application is 'Under Process' at Embassy for decision making.
Jan 16, 2017 - Application 'Reviewed' by Embassy and ‘In Transit’ to CKGS Application Centre.

Jan 17, 2017 - Original Passport ‘Received’ at the CKGS application centre and is at the ‘Sorting Facility’ where it is being processed for delivery.Your OCI Application will continue and take the pre-defined processing time. Please continue tracking your application status online.

Jan 19, 2017 - Original Passport handed over to FedEx by CKGS in the Pre Paid Envelope provided by you.

Apr 11, 2017 - OCI Card ‘Received’ at the CKGS application centre and is at the ‘Sorting Facility’ where it is being processed for delivery.

Re:OCI application through CKGS
I submitted the completed application, the fee and the payment and saw that the package got to the office in Houston on March 21st. Nobody bothered to acknowledge receipt. Then a couple of weeks later I logged in to check the status, which said that the application was in review. I assumed it had probably gone to India. Since I had not received any mail from them, I logged in today the 11th of April to find out, much to my horror, that the application was being rejected as the Additional Particulars form was missing. I know that I checked and double-checked everything before I sent it. The agent I spoke to on the phone was argumentative and said that it was up to me to check my status, although their web site stated very clearly that my application was rejected due to "no response" from me and that they had tried contacting me. I received NO phone calls, voice mails or emails from anybody. There is a reason why we go through an agency. Now I have to go through the whole process and apparently pay the fees again when NOTHING was done. I have asked them to provide proof that they contacted me. I have had no problems getting emails from CKGS before and after the application. None of their emails have gone to spam. There is no protection for the customer.

OCI + Renunciation CKGS NY
Hello,
Just wondering if someone has a similar experience like me. I applied for my OCI + Renunciation on March 27th and was received by CKGS NY on the 28th. It was then put on hold for verification. On April 03rd the status was updated as "'On Hold' due to the 'Incomplete Documents'. " and the remarks said "NO ACTION NEED TO BE TAKEN BY THE APPLICANT WILL MERGE OCI WITH THE RENUNCIATION APPLICATION.". It has been little over a week since the last update and still waiting for the merge to happen. Calls to CKGS were promptly answered but I was given the same update that I see online. Does anyone gone through something similar and how long did it take to merge the applications.

Best Regards,
P

OCI In lieu of PIO
Hello,
I have applied for OCI in Lieu of PIO for my daughter at th SFO consulate. The Indian government website shows that the OCI card was dispatched from MEA Delhi on 23rd of March. It has been 16 days since then and we have not received any update. Is this normal? Is there any way to contact the authorities and ask for an update? Also once the new OCI card arrives in SFO, do we need to send them our PIO card for matching purposes? The reason I ask this is because I personally know of 3 cases where they did not ask for the PIO matchup and directly mailed the OCI cards. Can anyone please provide some clarity on this.

Thanks

US passport during OCI processing.
I just applied for a new OCI card and mailed my US passport along with other supporting documents to CKGS. I understand the processing time is typically 45 days. What if I need my US passport in the mean time? (let's say I need to leave the country for some reason)...

Thanks,
Sundar
