Hi,

I am applying for Adult OCI at New York consulate.

Could you please help me to find the list of documents to be submitted?

I already got my Indian Passport cancelled and got renunciation certificate.

Do i need to submit notarized copies of these?

Today I got the OCI card for my son and wanted to share the timelines for my application with the New York CGI. Overall it was a smooth process for me and took 2 months and 4 days from submitting the application to receiving the OCI card. I would be more than happy to guide anyone who has any questions w.r.t to OCI application procedure and steps.

Milestones with Description:-

05/25/2016 : Your application has been received and is under process in CKGS. Please continue tracking your application status online. Your tracking id is USAN0 YYYY ZZZ.

05/25/2016 : We have received your payment and we are verifying the same. If the payment made is complete, you will receive a payment receipt shortly. If there is any further discrepancy, you will receive an update. Please continue tracking your application status online.

I have applied for both OCI and Renunciation on Jun 4th. In the govt website it says OCI printed and sent to SFO indian consulate. They not mentioned about my renunciation of passport?. Is there anyone know they will send OCI and old indian passport together to us?.

Submitted documents for OCI Matchup for my kid. Nearly 2 months without passport..

Repeated phone calls and emails are only giving me the same status as I see in the tracking page myself. They say they will get back with more info from Consulate.. yet with no material response.

It took more than 20 days for received date to update in website , will send the passport for matchup and will update in forum once I get the OCI card in hand not sure how many days it will take.

I applied for my OCI card on May 16th 2016

I have been tracking it on via the website and it says UNDER PROCESS

It says it take 42 days to receive the OCI card.

Feedback regarding the above query would be highly appreciated.

06/11/2016 - OCI matchup form and passport sent to CKGS.
06/13/2016 - OCI match up docs delivered at CKGS.
06/16/2016 - OCI match up docs has been received and is under process in CKGS.
06/16/2016 - Passport is in transit to the Indian Consulate for Matchup.
06/17/2016 - Passport and OCI returned to CKGS from Consulate.
06/17/2016 - Passport and OCI mailed by CKGS via Fedex.
06/20/2016 - Passport and OCI received at home.

75 days from the start date to the end date.
Or 2 months and 14 days.

A few things I've learned:

1) The customer service phone people are in India and they don't seem have a whole lot of power. The best they can do is escalate it to the CKGS center in the US through their internal system - IF you are persistent.
2) The people who update the status online are in the US and it doesn't seem like it is done real time and they don't seem to have any direct communication with the phone support people .
3) Calling them and emailing the CS will help in moving things along if you have a legitimate reason to escalate things like a fast approaching travel date.
4) My application was at the consulate for a while with no information regarding what was happening. I did email the consulate customer service and got no reply to the email. It became trackable after a week of that.
5) We seem to have no control over anything that gets done in India. It's a waiting game.
6) I sent in my Passport for match up the same day the status on the gov.in site showed that it was delivered to Consulate. I did not wait for an email from CKGS and to date I haven't received an email from CKGS regarding match up.
7) I chose to apply for renunciation first as I had a travel date at the end of June and needed my passport and I was't sure I would receive my OCI by then. I figured, if I had my passport I could always get a visa.
8) Don't count on getting your OCI last minute if your travel date is close, the time lines vary greatly among applicants/consulates. Just get an e-visa, you don't even need renunciation for that.

I sent my papers for OCI card on 8th March, received by CKGS on 9th March but they have acknowledged receipt on 15 th March, started processing at Inidan embassy on 22nd March , OcI card printed and dispatched on 6th June 2016 to Indian embassy and waiting for next update for Matching process to begin!

Finalllyyyyy received oci in hand....
Had applied for my daughter's oci in feb 2016...date of acknowledgement was 27 th feb ...and oci in hand on 10th june ...had applied at washington dc ...status changed as oci printed on 3rd may ...sent from new delhi to washington on 4th may...received at washington dc on 20 th may ...but the moment status got updated to" documents sent from new delhi to washington dc" i contacted the embassy directly in a weeks time and they asked us to send the passport for matchup to ckgs, even though no email was received from ckgs....so after numerous calls to ckgs and few emails to embassy oci was received. I can say in total 3.5 to 4 months from the date of acknowledgement.
