All I want to say- CKGS Houston is stupid, useless, incompetent, foolish, unhelpful, take for ever for simple tasks such as mailing documents. You write them letters clearly stating what you want them to do - they don't pay attention. You get the call center, the guys over there have to get permission from their supervisor to send an email/escalate to CKGS Houston. Why the hell we cannot communicate directly with the individual CKGS centers and get information? Their staff seem to sleep all day!

I sent in my OCI application exactly 3 months before my intended travel date(11/24) thinking it should be plenty of time. Government of India web site says this:

Documents Printing Status PROCESSED On 14-OCT-2015
Dispatched From MOIA (OCI ) NEW DELHI On 15-OCT-2015
Document received At SAN FRANCISCO On

I read on a forum that it takes about 3 WEEKS for the SFO consulate to receive the documents from New Delhi plus another 2-3 weeks for the match-up process. If that is the case, I'll probably miss my travel dates and may have to go for Visa on arrival instead.

I'm seeing the documents being received within a week at other consulates. Is it true SFO is taking that long to receive documents from Delhi after dispatch? Any way out for me? I don't live anywhere close to the SFO area.

Thanks to immihelp and OCI process details and timelines provided by user proudindianamerican. I followed the reviews and comments to make sure that I do not run into any roadblocks. I could get my OCI in less than a month. Here is my time line:

9/17/15 : Submitted application at CKGS (i missed their Sunnyvale walk ins on 9/12)
9/22/15 : Application processed and forwarded to Indian consulate/embassy
9/24/15: Date of acknowledgement
10/1/15: Documents printed
10/1/15: Documents dispatched from MOIA, NDL
10/6/15: Documents received at SFO
10/8/15: Received Match up email from CKGS (email was received at 5.40am)
10/8/15: Submitted passport at CKGS
10/16/15: Received passport and OCI card at my place

10/20/15: Reached home this morning and reviewed my docs. There is no U visa these days.

Note: CKGS was not prompt in updating the status of each milestone.
I submitted two sets of all the documents requested and relevant

CKGS is always right!!!

Most incompetent and unprofessional center. For one month now they have been holding onto my passport and oci even after the match-up is complete. I have sent them printed labels as their service wont recognize my address. After two weeks of incompetence, they ask my for the tracking numbers. I go to the UPS store that printed these for me and somehow manage to get them the numbers. The for two more weeks they kept saying its in the mail, you should get it in 2 days. It has been over a month now and i have not yet received my documents back from them. This has been the most frustrating experience. After 30 days they tell me that i need to email them a scanned receipt proving the purchase of my label. I did that and they asked me to email this to [email protected]. Am still waiting for them to mail my documents.

My husband has L1A stamping in Canada. Which location should we choose? Please share your experiences.

I really need someone to answer my doubts.

I have a foreign passport which I acquired in India 2 years back. I was born and brought up here but chose my father's nationality.

 For some reason I was denied an exit permit to travel to my country and so I decicded to stay here.

 The officer at the immigration said they would treat this as a born in india case and asked me to register for an OCI card.

 but I didn't have my birth certificate so he asked me to get it ready before applying. the process was really long because my birth wasn't registered and only recently I got my BC.

Now my doubt is this. What should I do now. Me and my sister have the same problem.we are majors.

Can I apply for an OCI card after 2 years of having a foreign passport with no visa?

What will be the fine?

Do you have any other suggestions as to what we should do? We are really lost here.

If anybody has any information about the procedure please help us..

My US passport and PIO cards are received by Indian High Commission in Houston for Match up on 17th Sep as per tracking and no information after that. Calls to CKGs did not help and emails to Indian Embassy are not replied. I sent my passport to CKGS after the email request for Match up and CKGs has forwarded my documents to Embassy in a day. Embassy is sleeping on this looks like. I think our PM Modi should digitize Indian agencies outside India first. It si scary to sit in US without a passport when aged parents are back home.

I have received my son's oci card within two months. Initially ckgs has not updated the status for matchup process , Checked the oci status on pasport.gov.in/oci and called ckgs customer service , they suggested to send the passport with the print status of passport.gov.in/oci.
Submitted passport in-person to the ckgs office,next day they updated the matchup status and passport receive status.
