USCIS Interview - interpreter issue
Hi,
Took my mother to a citizenship interview. She is 75 years old and is not fluent in English. The interviewer did not allow her to have an interpreter for the interview (including me). When she could not understand her questions, the officer told her that they would reschedule the interview and she should be prepared for the interview in English next time. Did anyone have that experience before? If, so how did you handle it? Should we go with the lawyer next time? Would appreciate your response.
Hi everyone, I have my N400 interview soon . I just wanted to be sure if they gona accept my downloaded paystubs and other bills of proof I had to download online. Thank you in advance.
Submitted my application on the 2-7-2022
Same date says application has been received and also received a reuse of biometric notice
Anyone else filing in florida.how is your process going
We have submitted our N400 applications with Feb 2021 as the PD and USCIS receipt received on March 26, 2021. At the time of receipt, the status for estimated time was 15 months and yesterday ,i.e. Feb 10th , 2022, it came down to 4 months.
Today when I checked my status, it is now showing 8 months instead of the 4 months ( which was yesterday) and a message is also displayed stating as under:
" Your functionality is limited due to technical issues . We are working on it to resolve"
We are old couple of 83 yrs and 74 yrs and USCIS is dragging and extending our cases as they like. We are tired .
Just want to know whether others, if any, are also having similar situation or it is only in cases being old. We are thinking of giving it as USCIS is abruptly pushing our cases
Members suggestions and experience would be highly appreciated.
Questions about US passport application after Oath ceremony
Questions about US passport application: Trying to get a passport for an international trip ASAP.
1. How soon can I apply for a US passport after the Oath ceremony? I have a name change during the naturalization process.
2. Do you need to have an updated driver's license (with a name change) before you can apply for the passport?
3. What other documents are needed to be updated for international travel? I know social security is one of them.
I followed this site for a long time and received a lot of knowledge. Now it's time to give back and help others.
Our journey began in May 2018. I filled forms I-130, I-130A, and I-864 for my spouse, at a Consulate in Europe. We attached birth certificates, police records, passports, etc. We received the approval and a visa within 5.5 months. My spouse arrived in Boston in November 2018. The total cost including a medical test was $2,000.
REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS Ι-751
September 2, 2020, I mailed the form I-751 to the Texas Service Center, including 2 years of random financial statements, rental leases, auto insurance, driver's license, several family photos(not self photos), and other documents with both of our names on it.
September 3, 2020, Delivered by Post Office to USCIS.
September 17, 2020, Received NOA I-797 to confirm the receipt of the I-751 file. The online account changed to: “Case was Received”
November 20, 2020, Sent a mail to USCIS for possible loss of my biometrics letter.
July 1, 2021, Received in 302 days or in (7.5 months) NOA 797C for a biometrics appointment.
July 19, 2021, In 321 days or in ( 8 months), attended bio-metrics. Until this day the online account says “Case was Received”
Total expenses for the I-751 case $718.00
CITIZENSHIP N-400 with I-751 PENDING
September 3, 2021, I uploaded online The application form N-400 plus all the supporting documents (total 25)available to us and according to the instructions of the form M-477
Note: I uploaded also a cover letter asking USCIS to adjudicate both cases(pending I-751 & N-400) at my interview.
November 11, 2021, I sent a case out of time request – for I-75. We received an answer one month later “the case is in line with a schedule.
December 21, 2021, I received an email for an N-400 interview, scheduled for February 8, 2022
December 29, 2021, Received also a post mail (NOA 797) for the N-400 interview with the exact date and time.
February 1, 2022, I received a telephone call from a USCIS officer asking for my spouse's presence at the interview. (a combo interview). Total expenses for the N-400 case $750.00
ADVISE: If you have an outstanding I-751 and you receive an interview for N-400, One week before the interview, keep your telephone with you at all times and answer every call, officers are calling asking people to bring their spouse also at the interview. Other field offices may mail a letter also.
February 8, 2022, Day of the Interview, and approval.
February 9, 2022 Oath.
We arrived 20 minutes earlier at the Tampa USCIS offices. At the door, a police officer asked for our 797 letter. We went through airport-type security, then we were directed to a registry window, they gave us a number and sent us to the waiting room. A very nice male, USCIS officer called our number exactly at the appointment time. We both walked to him. The officer said to me: “Stay out, if I need you, I will call you”(I'm the applicant USC). I was surprised because one week earlier he called on the phone asking for both of us to be present.
The interview lasted 15 minutes. I made several corrections to the application. I answered correctly the six questions, then the officer went very fast over a few of the Yes/No questions. I mentioned a traffic ticket, the officer said: any arrest? I answered “No”, he said: I don't care about that.
I was given an approval document and directed to wait in the waiting room. Another officer showed 10 minutes later and gave me a form with an oath appointment for the next morning.
The next morning had the oath ceremony. It lasted 15 minutes and left the building a US citizen. Our journey was almost over.
I made an appointment at the post office one week from now for a passport. The cost:
$15 for a picture, $30 post office fee, $160 for a passport and a card. total $205.00
NOTE: The time to complete my case at the USCIS site as of today says 13 months, so, it is totally unreliable and people should not pay attention.
NOTE: I mentioned above that I was expecting an I-751 and N-400 combo interview because we received a call from an officer that both we have to be present The officer who contacted the interview asked me to stay out, and he never mentioned or asked my spouse any questions about the I-751. Just gave her the form with the oath appointment, So, I don't know if the 751 was approved or what. I checked my online account a few hours after I took the oath. A document says that I took the oath and became a citizen but my I-751 case status still says “ready to be scheduled for an interview.
Inquiry about filing taxes as married but filing separately
Hello everyone,
I will be submitting my application for citizenship next year (my green card was through marriage to a US citizen). My wife decided to file taxes separately for 2021 (she filed as married filing separately). My question is will this be a problem for me when applying for citizenship? I have read online that if we filed taxes as married but filing separately, that it will be a red flag and I will be denied. I should also mention that we have a son together.
