Tourist visa B2 experience Oct 14
I applied at Mumbai consulate.
Went for biometrics on day 1. Ask for ‘Trade Center’ when finding the OFC in Bandra Kurla complex. It is some distance away from the consulate.
Process for biometrics:
1. They ask for passport, appointment letter and DS-160 form. Check them outside. Ask you to go inside.
2. Here the DS-160 is checked once again and stamped. Also a bar code is stuck to the passport. DO NOT remove this sticker. It is checked again during interview.
3. Then we are asked to pick up a token number. There is a TV screen where the token number and corresponding window number is displayed.
4. When we go to the window we are asked simple questions like name, DoB. Then our digital photograph is taken. At same window fingerprinting is done. Right hand 4 fingers. Then left hand 4 fingers. Then 2 thumbs together.
5. That’s it. In 5 min you are out.
Conclusions:
i. No need to carry hard copies of photos with you!
ii. They essentially ask you to travel (150 km in my case) far for a 10 min job.
iii. People who manage are very professional though.
Went for interview on day 2. This is at the consulate of course.
Process for interview:
1. My appointment was at 10 AM. Reached there at 9.15 and got into long line outside the consulate. Then the security guard came asking all 10 AM people to get out of the line and only allowed 9 AM people inside. 10 AM people were asked to wait so all grouped up near a building at the side of the road. At 9.45 they called for 10AM people and asked to form a queue.
2. While we were standing in line outside, the guys who were managing asked each person to keep passport handy and noted down something on their tabs (probably some number from the sticker they stuck on my passport during biometrics)
3. Then they start sending you inside the consulate. Through the first door is the security check. They ask us to remove watches, pens, document files into a tray which they provide. Then we have to pass through a metal detector and some frisking.
4. Then we are led to an area where there is a huge seating arrangement available (300-400 people). This seating area has a roof on top but is open on all sides. There is a very clean washroom present here in case we want to use it. There is a drinking water basin. I also saw some people buy refreshments/snacks from somewhere. Here they make us sit as per order in which we came in.
5. Then around 10-15 people are sent inside the actual building in batches. Until our number arrives we have to sit outside. I had to sit for about an hour.
6. Once inside the building we are asked for passport. Our fingerprints are verified and we are asked to move ahead in another line (this is the last line from where we go directly to interview window).
7. There are many windows where interviews are in progress. I saw at least 10 in progress. Once we go to the window, the person on the other side of the window asks us to give the passport and then goes ahead with the interview. From their expressions the interviewers seemed friendly and smiling (and they are!)
8. Questions asked to me (I am visiting my brother in USA): What is purpose of your visit? Where does your brother work? Where do you work? Since when are you working in current company? What do your parents do?
My visa got approved and passport was kept by them and I was told I will be contacted and the visa will be ready in a week.
Points to be noted: My itinerary was fixed and I had mentioned it along with flight numbers in DS-160. My parents were already in the US when I gave the interview and I mentioned that in the interview. No documents were asked for.
9. Once the interview is over we have to follow the exit doors which lead right outside the building, back where we had started.

Conclusions:
i. Don’t reach too early for interview. You’ll just have to stand outside facing the elements of nature.
ii. During interview be honest and calm while answering questions. Wish them good morning when you reach the window and have a smile on your face.

Best of luck to all!

My mother case was that after the arrest, her passport was not returned to her because it got lost
I am 24years old and i wanted to invite my parents for my graduation ceremony here in the USA,I don't know what to do anymore,i am so confused right now about how to fill the DS-160 Form,i don't know if i should just fill that they have never been to the USA or i should just explain what happened,my father cant even provide his old passport because he is now even 70years of age,i don't know if they will be given the visa.PLEASE I NEED HELP

Pregnant and need help on Parents Visa
Hi,

I am 5 monts pregnant and want to invite my parents in January 2015. Their B2 Visas were rejected twice in Sept 2011 and Jan 2012 under section 214B. My husband sponsored their visa the first time as I was on OPT and I sponsored the second time after I got a job. I am on H1B right now.
They were not asked many questions or looked at any sponsorship documents that we provided. I have an elder married brother in India and living with my parents. My father is 75 years old and my mother is 65 years old. My father is retired and my mom has been a housewife. They have a house and the total savings on their name is around 6 lakhs. How much savings do you need to visit US? Can we try self sponsored Visa this time instead of me sponsoring. The major change since the last interview is that my brother has an 18 month old son. We are very confused and do not have enough time if their visa gets rejected this time around. I am hesitant to sponsor again as that might be the reason for rejection again and also worried that if we try self sponsorship then not enough funding might be a cause of rejection.

Any suggestions will be higly appreciated.

Thank you!

B2 Refusal
Hello Friends. On 22nd September I applied for B2 visa with my Visa at New Delhi Consulate. Interview Went well. But don't know why they refused to give visa. Following were the questions.

Interview At 8.30 AM. Interview language preference was in English, however, Visa Officer spoke in English and in Hindi as well.

VO:- Good morning. How are you?
ME:- Very Good Morning. I am good. How are you?
VO:- Theak Thaak. (In Hindi)

VO:- Why you want to visit US?
ME:- For tourism and to celebrate our first marriage anniversary.

VO:- Do you have any relatives in US?
ME:- My wife sister is in US.

VO:- (To my wife) What your sister do in US?
WIFE:- She is Homemaker.

VO:- What her husband do?
WIFE:- He works for XYZ Company as a XYZ.

VO:- What this XYZ company do?
WIFE:- XYZ company is in Mining field.

VO:- What do you do?
WIFE:- I am also homemaker.

VO:- (To me) What do you do?
ME:- I work with Dell.

VO:- What is your monthly Salary?
ME:- 24 Thousand per month.

VO:- What do you do for Dell?
ME:- Explained my job responsibilities.

VO:- Do you supervise as well?
ME:- Occasionally. But my main role is customer service.

VO:- Do you guys have any kids?
ME:- No, and also not planing for next 2-3 years.
VO:- With smile yes, don't rush.

That is all and he said sorry cant issue you visa this time. You can try again and you might get visa next time. Refusal reason Section 214(b) that you do not have sufficient ties with home country. I am the only son who has to take care of my widow mother. I have my own urban and rural property in India. I work for Dell since 2011. I request Senior members to please suggest and advise what we can do. Should we apply again or not? Is there any chances to get visa. What went wrong in interview?
