got my b2 visa at chennai
hi , after a month of running around and spending restless time in the runup for the visa i finally got it on the 29th dec 2008 at the chennai consulate!!
well here's a lil preview about me , i'm 20, female, single and unemployed....and wanted to visit USA for a month to see my sister here...
everyone told me , i'm doomed to gte rejected guven my single and female status,,,,but you know it was all rubbish!
the visa process was as smooth as a baby's butt! my interview was on the 29th dec at 11 15...i got in the queue at around 10 30 and after the physical inspection and pre-screening , finally i had a female consul officer interview me!
3 questions were asked"
why you going?
ans- to visit my sis and see new york

what do you do?
ans-im a studnet in bangalore and havwe 2 more sems to go

what does your sister do?
she is a homemaker who's dependent on my brother in law.

thats it. no documents were asked for /looked into( thoguh i had a big fat pile of em!)
the interview lasted less than a minute and i got a 10yr ultiple entry visa approval. collected my VISA the next day at 4pm from VFS chennai...everything worked out smooth. and here i am in new york typing this post from.
dont get discouraged by others' bad experiences. the Consulate people are actually nice people who're here to help you , not reject your visa until you've given em a very strong reason to...
hope it helped

Parents got visa on Jan-02 after being rejected once
Hi
My in-laws got visa on Jan-02 at the chennai counselate after beoing rejected once before from the same counselate on Dec-05 2008.The first time the interview was in malayalam. The interviewer just asked them what they were doing. My father said retired and my mom said she was a housewife. He then gave them their 214(b) forms stating tht they didn't have ties back to the home country inspite of the fact tht my BIL is staying with withem and completing his studies and they have sufficient bank balance and all neccessary ties.

This time around they had to wait in queue a while longer cos the ladies queue was pretty long.Their interview was at 10.15.But when both of them got in it was around 11.15.We had prepared a covering letter stating all ties back to India and also prepared additional documents like a wealth certificate from CA and a personal affidavit.
This was how the interview went.
VO:Goodmorning.Happy New Year.
Father:Goodmorning and a happy new year to you too.
VO:Why do you want to visit US?
Mother:To do some shopping and sight seeing and also to visit my daughter and family.
VO:What do you do here?
Father:Gave a description of all his properties and investments and said tht he was retired.
VO:How many children do you have?
Father:2 kids.My daughter is in US and my son stays at home and is completing his studies.
VO:Your visa is approved. You will get your passport within a weeks time.

BTW this time the interview was in English cos malayalam appt dates were not available.

Thanks a lot to immihelp and all the folks who have posted their experiences here.It really helped us in doing a through preparation for the interview the second time around.

I had taken the templates for the documents that my parents have to prepare too from immihelp.com

The questions asked were:

In which company is your son working?
(My Dad was tensed and had forgot the company that I am working for. In front of the officer, he was about to refer the documents I have prepared.)

My Mom remembered and she answered the company that I am working for)

What is he working as?
Answered the designation.

Do you have any other kid?
My First son is working in Mysore

Do you have any daughters?
No

Are you working (to my father)?
Yes. I am working as a ....

The Visa officer informed that my parents would receive the passport in 2 or 3 days.

My parents are yet to receive the passport.

mom got visa
Very happy to announce that my mom got her visa approved for 10 yrs.Followed evry bit of information from this site, got enough info of people's exp as well. The consulate officer just asked her 3 questions and dint even take the print outs of the DS-156 and 157 from her bundle of documents as we had filled it online. Would always recommend to be prepapred for any event as people ahead of my mom were refused visa.
questions asked were:
officer:is your daughter working for XYZ company in the US
mom: my son in law

officer: how many children do you have
mom: two daughter, one in US and one studying in india

officer: why isnt your husband accompanying you on this trip
mom: husband is working

officer (after taking my mom's passport): your visa has been apporved you will get your visa within 7 days

Really appreciate the amount of info you have added on this website including hotel and transportation details, we are a resident of Bangalore with no contacts in Chennai. Got the info of palmgrove hotel from your site.My mom had a pleasant stay at the hotel at a reasonable cost.
thanks once again and really appreciate you all doing an excellent job.

Denied US Visitor's visa for the Third Time
Hello everyone!Just want to share my experience being denied again.I applied for a tourist visa on 2002 with my father but was denied because we weren't prepared.I applied again alone by April 2008 and even hired a visa consultant to book my interview and strategize my application to get higher chances of approval even I was charged expensively but I was still denied.Reason was I was less than a year at work.Seven months later,I reapplied again since I have turned 1 year and 7 months at work and hired another visa consultant at a less expensive price and much more thorough than my former visa consultant.I get turned down again due to the fact that I am single and 24 years old and not married and the consul saw at the computer that I have been in the embassy last April 2008. The questions were asked were:

1. Why do you want to go to the US?
Answer: To experience white xmas with relatives in WA.

2. Are you Married?
Answer: No, I am single.
(Duh! Asking the obvious even I have checked in my DS-156 that I am single!)

3.Who is there in the US?
A: My aunt.

4.You were here last April..
A: Yes

5. What do you do?
A: Asso. Engineer handling customer support and software quality assurance

6.How long have you been working?
A: One year and 7 mos.

7. What was the reason of your last denial?
A: I was less than a year at work.

(Barely looking at me but just typing something in the computer....He folds my application form and puts it in file and got the nasty blue form, put an X mark)

8. I cannot give you a visa this time--you don't have enough ties.You are single and 24 y/o.

Too bad.My finances weren't even asked though I am capable and sufficient to pay for a two-week vacation.

Lesson learned: If you are single,24 y/o you are doomed to be denied!
