B1/B2 VISA
Hi everybody.I am a retired Central Govt. employee(retired on July 31,2006). I would like to thank immihelp site and everyone who have posted their experiences and information on this site with regard to US Visa. all sample docs and information needed for US Visa was very helpful. I along with my wife and daughter attended the VISA interview at Chennai on 31st Jan 2007.luckily we had our interview with a cheerfull lady consulate officer. The inter action was very friendly. The interview went on as follows : (Questioned me only first, then daughter)
CO : why do u want to visit US.
Ans : I wud like to see my daughter n visit the tourist attraction locations and also to see my son-in-law whom I hav not yet seen after my daughter's marriage.
Co: What was your daughter
Ans : She is a programmer analyst in Jhonsons N Jhonsons company, New Jersey.
Co : when did she marry
Ans : Aug 01, 2006
CO : why have you not seen him earlier
Ans : I was not having Visa
Co : why
Ans : I got the interview date only for 31st Jan2007, where as she married on Aug 01,2006 in New York.
Co : Who arranged her marriage
Ans : it is an arranged marriage by her friends(she smiled)
Co : do You hav any property in India
Ans : Yes(I wanted to show her the docs, but she said, its Ok, not necessary to show)

then she started asking my daughter
my daughter is a Tech Support Engineer in Hewlett Packard Global Sfot Pvt Ltd. Bangaore.

CO : what are you doing
daughter : I am a Tech Support Engineer in HP
CO : How much salary do you get
daughter : Rs.25,000 a month
CO : since you are employed, how would you go to US
Ans : I have got my leave sanctioned for 20 days and I will be back after completion of my leave.
thats all

then the CO said : one good news and one bad news for you people. I can't give visa to you( to my daughter). One way we are happy because atleast me and my wife got the visas and sad because our daughter is not accompanying us.

Me and my wife got visa for 10 years.
she has not asked for any documents except the original DS-156, Ds-157, HDFC fee receipt and Original passport.

My elder daughter who is in the US has sponsored the living expenses in US and the travel expenses (i.e To and fro Airfare) is being born by me.

I once again would like to thank immihelp site for giving good guidance to the people.
Thank you and thanks every body.

suggestions ; Report the consulate only 15 minutes before the scheduled time given to you.otherwise killing time on the foot path in the scrotching sun is very horrible.
The Tamilnadu govt. should think about the plight of the candidates and do some arrangements to over come the difficulties being faced by the people attending the interview.

humiliating experience
Hi,

I had interview for tourist visa at Mumbai embassey on 6th february 2007. I want to share my exerience which was really sad & at the end of it you really feel you have done a crime applying for this visa.

I am a Paediatrician residing in Mumbai. I have travelled to UK, australia , HK, BK and singapore. i was thinking of visiting US since I was in Australia & this year I finally decided to go for three weeks.

First of all at the interview centre I was asked to stand on the foottpath waiting to find out when to get inside. Iwas to give my cell phone 7 purse to my driver. I asked the representative I have an appointment for 1230pm what time I can go inside? He looked at me & said rudely first put yr bags away 7 then talk to me. i said my driver would keep that pl explain me the procedure. he rudely said again first put the bags away & then only I will talk to you.finally I got into the lon queue for the security check. there everyone was told not to argue & just do what u are asked. The lady before me was not allowed to take insulin Injection inside. if u have nobody waiting outside u have to throw away everything in the bin. There was no place to store it. Again inside the next queue to get the application form .......followed by the third queue to give yr passport & give the fingerprints. In the queue I found about atleast 10 to 20 people given the appt for 1230pm. At last you are given a token number with which you sit down & wait for hrs for number to be called. You are not allowed to take any reading mateial neither u are provided with inside. If u are hungry can choose from owful sndwich or cris packets.

Finally u are called at one counter with few other token numbers & stand in the queue again. when my number was called i had to stand at the window as if I was to confess for something wrong I have done. The ladt asked why do u want to travel to us. IT was just for sight seeing. I have foreign remittance of about 18 lakh rupees on my balance sheet also saved 6000 US dollars which I want to spend on holidays. she didnt think that was enough . It was only 2 minutes at the interview and she refused my visa.
This all costed me about 5000 rupees & owful day.
All that it seeme that they dnt want me to see their beautiful country for no reason. I am so dissappointed I would never apply for this country visa & also ask all my friends not to make similar mistake.

Thanks to Immihelp My Parents got 10 yrs Visa
I would like to thank Immi help site and everyone who have posted their experiences and information on this site wrt US visa. All sample documents and information needed for US visa processing was very helpful.

I was doubtful if my parents will ever get their visa.Reasons:

1)I had not got my new HIBI approval letter and had sent receipt of notice of H1B that my new company had filed. In uscis system my old hib could be traced but not my new one.

2) My H1B Visa was stamped and expiring in this July 2007.I had recently changed my job in USA and had my previous company stamping.

3)Their passports were expiring next year in 2008 and i was concerned if they will ever get 10 years of visa.

The best thing was that My parents got their 10 years of visa till 2017. My parents were smart and they went through all docs i had sent them. I did not have to brief them with any docs. I had sent all documents from USA and booked my parents within 7 days appointment. My parents went with nice files and the whole body language showed they were prepared with all documents. My parents told me their interview was the shortest in the whole group for only 1 and half minutes. The only question the consulate asked my father was
Consulate: So are u a doctor? ( My father 's name was written as Dr.S..):
My Father :Yes
Consulate with a smile: So when did you become a doctor?
My father : I graduated in 1971 and i m practicing since then.

Consulate with a smile: We will send you the visa soon.

My father got his and my ma's passport in first attempt till 2017...Thanks and god bless all. Wish you all good luck.Just keep the faith...and yes i also did puja two times the day my parents were supoposed to get their visa :-)

My parents attended a visitor visa interview today at the Chennai Consulate. We were a little worried as both my brother and I live in the US (no other siblings). They weren't asked too many questions. The questions asked were:
(1) So you work at XYZ (my father)
(2) How long have you been working there?
(3) When do you retire
(4) How many children do you have? (2)
(5) Any children in India? (No)
(6) What do your children do?
(7) Can you give me some documents from your son?

Then the VO said that their visa was granted, etc. It was a pretty easy and quick process, they don't have their passport yet, so we don't know what kind of visa it is yet.
All the best to everyone!

Whos in US ?
Daughter and son in law

Why are u going to US?
To visit daughter and stay with her for some time and also tourism purposes.

Why did u visit israel and jerusalem in particular?( My mom and dad had gone to Israel and Jordan and Jerusalem on a pilgrimage tour from church previous year)
Dad said its our holy land we went from church.

For how many months are u going?
He said I will return in 2 months my wife has enough leave so she might stay for 2 more months.

We had written months in our invitation letter and then she said theres nothing to see in US for 6 months. She rejected the visa and also stamped visa rejecte in their passport. She didnt even looked at the documents . just passport and application form.

Dad said that it was a muslim lady and she rejected everyone in their line except another muslim old lady.

Parents Visa
Hello all - My parents had attended the interview for a visitor's visa at chennai consulate in dec 06. It was a lady VO officer. The VO took the DS forms from my parents..

VO: what do you do?
P: Both of us are professors

VO: what is your highest qualification
P: Phd for both

VO: How many papers have you published till now and when was your recent publication?
P: answered

The VO officer did not look at any other documents but gave the 221g form asking for further information about their research activities, publications etc. They did not hold back any documents but just put an "Application received" stamp in both the passports. We sent all the required information in the form of a text document (via email) on January 4, 07 and received acknowledgement from the consulate. On January 10 both of my parents got emails saying that the administrative processing is complete and they need to send their passports, dsforms and the hardcopy of the email. They sent these through the vfs guys on Jan 17,07 and received the passports today with visas stamped for 10 years....We are happy that the process did not take too long..Lucky enough i guess.

Thanks to all of you for all the information on this website...

i-485 interview
SO my i-485 interview was a failure. We had many inconsistencies and many holes in our presentation. The lady concluded that she did not see that we lived together and also she did not believe that we married with a bonafide intention. She took away my i-94 from my passport. She also did not tell me whats the next step. I am currently waiting for the next move. CAN ANYONE OFFER ADVICE?

it seems there is no criterion for rejecting or awarding b1 b2 visa. I had the bitter experince like this:

I am a distributor for Indian Oil Corpn. Ltd., I lam responsible for supplying LPG to 28000 customers and I am bound to work as a full time business man.

I believe that is ample reason for me to come back as soon as possible from US after a religious seminar. I had all relevant documents like agreement with IOC, IT papers, bank statements, my sponsor's letter stating that they would bear all expenses etc..

But the CO did not even ask for any of these papers. Visa was rejected..
