If your nonimmigrant visa has been issued, the consular officer will retain your passport at the time of interview. Visa will be stamped into your passport and returned to you by courier through VFS within 7 business days. Usually, the delivery will be much faster.

As the cost of the courier is included in the VFS Service charge, you don't have to pay anything extra at the time of the delivery.

Courier will deliver the passport at the address mentioned when you completed the application form.

Actual time taken by Visa Section of the Embassy/Consulate to deliver your passport to VFS depends upon workload and holidays and a definite turnaround time cannot be guaranteed.

Alternatively, you can collect your passport prior to it being couriered to you. You can collect the passport across the counter ONLY at the VFS US visa application center located in the city where you were interviewed.

Applicants may receive their passport in all probability on the same evening of the interview and if not received, then the next working day. Most passports are returned within 2 -3 business days of the interview.

Applicants interviewed at the US Consulate, Kolkata
Applicants may receive their passport in all probability the next working day after the interview. If the interview took place on a Friday or a day preceding any Consular holiday, in all probability passports can be collected the same evening during Counter Passport Collection hours.

Mumbai: 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Chennai: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Your passport stamped with visa will be given to you across the counter on the day it is received from the visa section. If the passport is not collected in person on the day when it is received from the Embassy / Consulate the same would be immediately couriered to the final destination. No passports are retained by VFS under normal circumstances. You will need to show the original HDFC bank fee receipt and a copy of the interview appointment letter.

To confirm whether your passport has been handed over to VFS by the US Embassy / Consulate, you may track your passport using 'Track Passport Delivery'’ link. The status on the VFS website gets updated only after VFS receives the passports from the Embassy / Consulate. There is no prior intimation given to VFS on the passports to be handed over for return delivery.

Passports can NOT be delivered across the counter at the US consulate. Timings for US consulate to hand over the stamped passports may vary based on the work load, holidays etc. US consulate can not assure the definite turnaround time.

If you would like your passport delivered to alternate address, and you applied online, you can visit the VFS web site up to 2 business days prior to the interview and change the address in Box 15 of the DS-156 Form.
Visit Retrieve/Modify a save application, follow the instructions and make your changes.

If any of the details on the visa is printed incorrectly, do not return to VFS. Visit the US Embassy/Consulate in person and hand over the passport to the Visa Section on any business day.

If you have not received your passport within 7 business days after your interview, you can either call or visit the nearest visa application center.
