This was first attempt which was held on 17th Sept in Kolkata

Me: I work as Finance Manager with xyz company .Shared company details in brief. We are kickstarting FY20 Financial Forecasting exercise going to attend business meeting related to same.Where Global leaders going to present FY20 Business strategies.

VO: Checks about my previous travel abroad
Me : No Travel

VO : Income
Me : Annual Income in YYYY Lacs

VO : How long associated with current company
Me : less than 2 months

VO : Do you manage any Team
Me : Currently working as Individual Contributory role

VO : Duration of intended stay in US
Me : Mention the date as per DS160 .Then clarify in weeks (3).

VO : Sorry Visa is rejected.

Can you please share what could be the reason for rejection.My company have asked to reapply at the earliest as I need to there in US for very important assignment.
I am a qualified accountant having 16 years experience currently based in Bangalore.

Visited US Embassy in New Delhi at 12 Sep 2019.

This was my 2nd attempt for visa. First was in 2014 when it was rejected.
Here is my conversation with VO, who was an aged man.

Me: Good Morning sir
VO: Good Morning, your passport.
VO: your purpose of visit?
Me: I am lead at xyz company. Currently handling the team of abc application. I am going for team sync up meeting with our US team member. X and Y are our partners they will also join us.
VO: you are working for xyz company here in India?
Me: Yes
VO: for how much time
Me: 8 years
After that he checked my other visa and asked
VO:why did you visit these 2 countries
Me: For attending training and company work.
VO: ok you'll get your visa tomorrow.

My suggestion is to be confident and make eye contact. Your body language should be positive.

I'm posting this on behalf of my friend to know the reasons for rejection

VO: Why u visited UK? (He had UK visa stamp on his passport)
Friend: Visited as a tourist with wife
VO: Where are you going to stay in US?
Friend: Mentioned company location
VO: How long is ur trip?
Friend: 2 weeks
VO: Why are you visiting US?
Friend: For business meeting with stakeholders
VO: Why are you going? why not someone else?
Friend: As I'm leading this project, I'm chosen to attend this meeting
VO: Gives the passport and tells thank you

What could be the reason for rejection?

I had given my B1 Visa interview on 10th oct 2018 in Hyd and got rejected. Now applied again and it is on 5th Nov 2019 in Hyd

VO: What is your purpose of visit?
Me: For business meeting with my project stakeholder.
VO: Who are your stakeholder?
Me: Project manager, commodity manager, Test engineer
VO: What product your company does?
Me: I told the product my company produces.
VO: Why you are only going? why not others?
Me: As I'm responsible person, who is leading this project, I have the complete information related to this project. So my manager has chosen me to attend this business meeting with the project stake holders.
VO: I'm rejecting your visa and gives back my passport along with section 214 (B) sheet.

How different should i prepare for my coming interview.

first of all i need to thanks this forum which helped me a lot in how to prepare and answer in the visa interview.

i have completed my bio metrics on 9 th sep , and i have an B1 visa interview on 10 th sep 11.15 am slot, i have reached the Chennai us consulate and 10.30 and waited in the queue and they allowed as per the time slot,around 11.15 i went inside after completing the security check,and i was allotted counter no 2 .

VO : Step forward, GM how are you .
Me : VGM Sir , i am good thanks! how are you doing today.
VO : I am good , its a sunny day today.
Me : yes sir
VO : pass me the passport please .
ME : passed the passport .
VO : tyong on the system for 30 sec , and looking at this system why are you going to USA.
ME : i have a business review meeting , followed by production release and training on new tool which our client acquired.
VO : which place are you travelling.
ME : Newjersey.
VO : Are you only or any one from your company also travelling.
ME : we are 4 people travelling .
VO : can i see your invite letter.
ME : i just passed it to him , he saw it and started typing on the system.
VO : Cant this be done online.
ME : no sir , we have a production release and we faced lot of issues in last release so my client wanted me to be present there to overcome the technical glitches.
VO : are you a lead.
ME : I am an senior consultant but i lead a team of 5 members.
VO : oh nice,how many weeks you are going to stay and what is the agenda.
ME : 2 weeks and i said the agenda, which is mentioned in invite letter.
VO : are you married.
ME : no sir i am engaged , getting married in dec .
VO : wow , he said and started tying something in his system and he asked how many years are your working with this compnay.
ME : said 4 + years.
VO : he again started typing for 30 sec and finally he said , your visa is approved and he handed over a slip and said you can collect your passport in 3 working days .
ME : with a smile !! Thanks sir have a good day and i left.

My suggestion is don't get panic or nervous by seeing rejection or approvals in front of you , just go with cool mindset and maintain eye contact and answer confidently .

VO was a male and he seems strict

VO : What is the purpose of your visit ?
Me : I am going to attend the one day workshop and annual conference. Attending this conference would help me in enhancing my skills.

VO : How long you are with your current company?
Me : 1 Year 8 Months

VO : What's your designation?
Me : Associate Consultant

VO : What you will be learning from the conference?
Me : I said technical terms in 2 lines.

VO : Sorry, You are not eligible for the visa this time.
Me : Thank You.

No documents asked. I had my invitation letter and conference registration and hotel booking.

I don't even know the reason why he rejected. It was unfair for me.

Need your help. Please do suggest?

Hi Visa Holders,

Please help me to understand the best answer for Purpose of visit.

AM actually going to get the Go-live certification from the clients.
We have completed the product setup on cust environment.

I need to be there during go live date, monitor the system for 2-3 days and get the go live confirmation from them. If there are any concerns, i need to understand that, come back and work with my team.

Would this answer look fine to get the b1 visa.

Please correct me if its not valid for b1 visa.

I have my B1 visa interview scheduled next week.

Going through these VISA interview experiences and observing that the rejection rate is at an all-time high makes me nervous. So, I've started practicing the questions asked by the VO so that I don't fumble. Even after thorough practice and thought, I'm unable to figure out the outcomes of a few questions.

I decided to get help from the people here.
Below are 2 questions for which I'm not sure if I'm giving the right answer.

Q: Why is your company sending only you despite your less experience (~3 years) and less association with the company(~6 months)?

A: I've worked for my current company as a contractor for about 2 years before joining as an FTE. I have been working in the same project for the past 2.5 years and I know the interlocks of the module quite well. I've also recently got an appreciation/award for the work I'm doing. Currently, I lead a team of 4 people and the business thinks that it's better if I attend these meetings and provide feedback and receive inputs so that the software can be designed better and launched faster with fewer bugs.

Q: Why can't your seniors/managers go in your place? Why you?
A: As I said earlier, because of my long-time association with the project, I know the module quite well. My manager is new to the company and hence he's going through transition phase. My director and architect, by looking at my performance so far, think I can accomplish this job of understanding the priorities of business well so that I can get my team implement them upon my returning.

What are the chances of getting visa approved?

Hello Everyone,
I feel this is a very good forum giving the overview of what to expect during B1 Visa interview or what kind of answers you can give. I personally feel that there's no point of stressing out yourself thinking about question an answers. Only thing I would like to suggest is frame your answers to the point and be confident that you are visiting for Business purpose only. Don't try to cook up stories because what's not true cannot be proven...

I have been rejected last year but post that I was able to travel to different countries and this time around I got my visa approved. I was very genuine with my answers and the agenda of Business meetings.

I am not posting question answer details because there was only one question asked from me and it was depth which includes all the other questions indirectly. All in all, be confident, be genuine and rest will follow..
