First of all I want to thank the forum and all the members for sharing their experience which really helped me a lot.
Background: I have done my B-Tech in Computers and M.S in Computer and Information science from USA. I was in USA from Aug 2000 till March 2004 after which I wanted to be with my parents… so took a job in India.
I had booked my appointment with Chennai consulate for Sept 20th as I have had received my H1B papers in August 2005 from my prospective employer. When I went inside the consulate on 20th Sept … I was asked to wait for about 2 hrs and later informed that my appointment was cancelled from the same IP address which I had booked the appointment. I tried to convince them saying why would I cancel the appointment for which I have been waiting for 2 months… anyway they told me that I have to fix another appointment.
When VFS came into picture for the appointment, I was lucky to get an appointment for 12th Oct 2005. When I did go on 12 Oct… I had seen lot of H1B cases getting rejected due to lack of client letter. Eventually I was given a 221(g) asking to get a letter from the supervisor in my client place along with the pictures. Luckily the client project was outsourced to my employer… so my employer managed to get a letter from the client stating that the project had been given to them and also managed to get a letter stating that so & so person from my petitioner is the project manager for that application. My employer got a letter from the project manager stating that I will be working in the project for about 12 months and there is lot of chances that it will extend. As I will be working in my employer’s premises… there was no need for pictures from the client place.
Finally I took all those documents and attended the Chennai consulate again on 3rd Nov 2005. Six to seven counters were assigned to the H4 dependent cases that needed language assistance. All the H1B cases were asked to wait for a long time. Finally they started calling all the 221(g) cases to one counter… where there was a woman in her late 30’s scrutinizing all the applications. Most of the 221(g) cases were asked to get the client letter… the VO started asking the applicants to get a letter from the end client (i.e.) customers to the client (I am sure it’s not an easy job) and issued them 221(g) again. Only one applicant was successful getting the visa out of 7. Attendant who calls the token number asked the VO in the 221(g) counter... Whether he could send more applicants… for which she rejected, luckily mine was the next number… so I was asked to stand in a different counter… where the VO was an old lady talking very sweetly and even rejecting the applications now and then.

7 days later. I called the consulate and was told to call back after 2 days as my application is in process (Not pending). When I called again.. I was told that my application was approved and I will be getting my passport in couple of days.
There is no need to worry if you have good documentation but do not forget to get a Client letter from your employer.

Successfull H1B At Chennai On 22-Nov-2005

First Of ALL Thanks To All Those who have shared their experience in this site and at the same time iam very thankfull to immihelp.com for hosting this site. It is really helpfull to those who are attending Stamping.I strongly believe that this is the best site that provides usefull information for those who are attending the US consulate for visa stamping
My Interview time was at 9:00am to 9:15am and i was allowed into the embessey at 9:30am.to enter into the embessey we have to show our passport,web appointment letters.soon after i entered into the embessey TTS Services people were collecting the DD's. first they took Rs.441 dd and gave me a pink colour token(which consists of three sub tokens in it) which we must keep it with us untill ur interview is completed.after that they sent me to the next counter their i submited one more dd for Rs.4600 and among the three sub token one was taken by them and then i was moved to the next counter there i was asked my DS156,DS157,visa application,passport,webappointment letters and she put them in a green file and told me to go to the next building.be carefull while moving to the next building because the doors their are too heavy and they are atomatic doors too.see that ur fingers are safe from that doors.as soon as i entered into the next building i was made stand in a queue for finger prints(we have to give both right & left index finger prints here).after that i was told by her to stand in the counter no 6 for the interview with the visa officer.

Please listen carefull to the question and then answer pls dont cross question or stop him while questioning.

All of u are speaking abt ur experiences, but no body's talking about the facial features or any features of the VO, who have interviewed U. Pls I request all the ppl to include a couple of lines describing him/her as it gives a clarity on the VO who we can target wen once inside the consulate counters room, so that we can prepare ourselves accordingly.
Its almost certain that above all 'Client Letter' matters is a must, apart from that some body pls give a checklist so we can take all the required documents.

I was given 221(g) stating that "Your application needs additional clearances. We will contact you when further action can be taken in your case".
Can any one say
1. What does this mean?
2. When will thay let me know?
3. Can I enquire anywhere for this? Where?

sucessful H1B interview at mumbai consulate
Hello eveyone,
I have been reading the posts for over 3 months so i have the duty to post mine too.
I got an emergengy date for 21st Nov(as I had a prior L1B from another firm).
my slot was 9:15 AM. I reached there by 8:30 , arong 9:30 they let us in .Please note that you have to carry the 100 rs DD(for applicats who have applied before 16th Nov), else they would first ask you to get it and then let you enter the building.
After handing over the yellow envelop I was motioned towards counter 1 where fingerprints and the yellow envelop were taken and a pink token given .
about 20-25 mins later my token no was called at a specific counter.they call abunch of names together and u have to stand in queue and enter the interview box one at a time.
Fortunately, the same lady who took my L1B interview was inetrviewing me this time too(I think she is very nice- as I got visa both the time in a few mins )
Here are the questions:
VO : good morning !, how are you(smiling)
Me : good , thanks!,and you?
VO : good, thank you!
VO : what is the name of your company in US?
Me : ZZZ
VO : okay, how did you come to know about it?
Me : i had posted my resume in dice.com ..they picked it up form there.. blah blah
