Successful H1B Stamping at Chennai Nov 19th .!!!
Dear Folks,

It was an exciting journey of preparing for the interview and visiting this awesome website for all help and here i am with my updates to give back what i received from this site. I encourage everyone to share their experiences and help one another.

My Interview was on November 19th Saturday as my earlier appointment date was cancelled due to heavy rains in chennai. This was a blessing in disguise as there was not much crowd on the day.
The whole process inside the consulate took me just 1 hour.

After paying the DD's in the counter
The VO was a lady was around 40 yrs old,she was really polite and courteous and very friendly.
In my counter there were couple of guys for H1B who did not have proper documents and could not communicate clearly about their Job, she was very paitent with them and though she gave 221g for them she did it in a polite way,and she was very resonable with them.
My turn arrived, she greeted me with a warm smile and asked sorry for making me wait.

Here are the questions:
VO: Good afternoon..
Me: Good afernoon madam

VO: Give me the folder containing(DS156,157,Passport and others docs)

VO: How long are you working for the current company
Me: xxx (I am working for a reputed MNC having 5 yrs exp)

VO:Give me your degree certificates
Me: Bachelors & Masters in Computers(So no problem)

VO:Asked about the company in US and the number of employees.
Me:xxxx

VO:Will you be working in Client's place or with Employer
Me: In Employers's place and will be involved in development of Sofware applications. And explained to her about the product.( I just had a letter from employer stating my role in this project. I did not have any client letter or market analysis of the product that i will be working with)

I made a chance to show her my US companies brochure, workplace photos and company tax returns in US, by now she was very much convinced and asked me to pay the visa issuance fee with a smiling face. I thanked her and left the counter.

That's it. So here are my few tips:
1) Be confident and boldly answer the questions with a smiling face.
2) Wear formals(Preferably Good light color shirt with a nice Tie) and company ID too.
3) Make sure you have proper papers(mandatory & supportive documents), and go thru the dox and be thorough in those details.
4) Its good if you can rehearse your answers for all the questions posted in this site.
5) Have good information about the company in US and photos and Tax returns may help.
6) Above all have faith in Lord God Almighty, and believe in yourself.

Again thanks for all who posted their experiences before and to all who are yet to appear Best of Luck and dont break this chain of help.

Warm Regards
WellWisher.

Got my H1 approved on 19th November at Chennai
Hi All,

First off, I would like to thank the owner of immihelp.com for hosting this site and secondly to the people who have spared some time to share their experiences. Going through these postings provides great insights and would help any one in preparing in a proactive manner. I would say, nothing mentioned in the experiences or documentation part should be ignored or taken light.

My Background:
1. Non-IT graduation
2. Already been on H1 for about 5 years
3. Currently working for an MNC
4. Got visa from a consulting firm in the US with over 500 employees.

My experience:

The whole process took about an hour from the time I entered the main gate. Usually, I guess this will not be that quick...I attended on a Saturday.

Me: Good Morning Mam.
VO: Good Morning, is this your family?
Me: Yes
VO: Let me take your finger prints.
....done with the finger printing
VO: How long you have been working with the present compnay
Me xxx
VO: Can I see your graduation certificate
Me: Yes
VO: Can I now see your Degree Certificate
Me: Yes Please.
She carefully went through each and every experience certificate
VO: How big is the company with whom you would be working in the US:
Me: Over 500
VO: Ok, that's a big company
Vo: Your visa is approved. You will get the passport in mail in next two days (This was the sentence I have been waiting from long time).

Some Suggestions:

IMPORTANT: I have noticed that they would like to know if the company you are going to is a Consulting Firm. If Yes, they will FOR SURE WOULD LIKE TO SEE A LETTER FROM THE CLIENT. You need to be really LUCKY for not getting this question asked if you going to work for a consulting firm. Please make sure you get this.

My other other observation is, if you have all the right documentation, answers point to their questions, I don't see a real reason why you will not get the visa.

Once again thanks and Best of Luck to all!

Regards
Chandra Sekhar

H1/H4 Stamping in Chennai
Hi everyone. This site helped me alot in getting to know many experiences.

I am a MS graduate working in one of the top 10 companies in the world. First time when I went to the consulate for stamping I was given 221(g) even without asking any questions. The second time when I went I was told to get an original & notarised letter from the employer/client. I managed to get it in a short span of time. This time I went with two minds whether I will get the visa or not but still I had some hope left in me. Third time when I went I was asked basic questions and was granted visa even without looking at the documents. The notarised letter from the employer helped me a lot.

Few things that you have to remember before going to the Consulate are:

1. Whether you will be able to justify your education background.
2. Whether your US employer is genuine or not. Better metion the company's URL in the Consulate general's letter as reference.
3. Study what your employer is doing currently and have a good grip on what your job profile is going to be. If you dont have the client details try not to mention about the client anywhere. If they find any ambiguity in the I-129 and your offer letter and the consulate general's letter that means you are asking for trouble. Be firm that you will be working out of your employer's office and not at the client's place. See that your employer is big enough and not a company with 2 or 3 employees.
4. Be as genuine as possible. There is nothing fear about if you have all the geninue documents.
5. Be sure that you show a sound salary from present company so that they dont doubt you as a potential immigrant.
6. If you have worked previously in the US be sure to take your US W2 forms of all the years you stayed there. This is very important.

Good luck to you all.

Suggestions for the appointment
Hi Friends,
First of I'd like to thank this superb site for provided a thread with priceless info.
guys, All of u are speaking abt ur experiences, but no body's talking about the facial features or any features of the VO, they have been interviewed. Pls I request all the ppl to include a couple of lines describing him/her as it gives a clarity on the strong points and the grey areas, so that we can prepare ourselves accordingly.

Coming to myself,
I am having my appointment scheduled in a couple of weeks. I dont have any End client related papers, but just the I797, I129, request letter, Offer letter, pay stubs and photos. My client place is different from the Consultant's place, but I am going to get the project's details from my consultant, thats all. Pls suggest me how to approach the VO. I have filed my petition on .Net and SQL Sever and I am an MCP in 'WinForms using C#' and 'SqlServer Developer' certifications.
I'd really appreciate any suggestion, as It would really be useful in preparing for the D-Day.
Thanx a lot guys for posting ur experiences point-by-point, they're really an eye opener on the Dos n Don'ts.
My brother got his B1 rejected by going to Delhi due to lack of dates, they told him to apply in the region from next time. So, I suggest everybody to prepare well and apply at Chennai itself instead of trying new things, as if once it gets redirected, it will raise even more queries.
All the Best Guys.... May God be with us :)

Got my H1B on Nov 8th Chennai
Thanks to everyone who posted there experiences, which helped me a lot.

I had my slot between 11:15-11:30.
I entered into the consulate at around 11:15a.m.
Finished the formalities of giving 441 and 4400 D.D's with in 1/2 hr and took the token number. Then entered the main building at 12:00 where V.O 's will be there.

When i entered the building they asked me to stand infront of the counter 8.I gave my finger prints ,then visa officer asked me to grab a seat for the interview.

At around 2:00 ,i was told to stand infront of the counter 4.There was a lady Visa Officer,i was a so tensioned becoz many of my friends told me that lady vo's often reject visas.

She then called me......here it goes
VO:Hi,How r u doing?
Me:Good Afternoon,iam fine.What abt you?
VO:good
Me:I gave her my DS 156,passport,web application form.
VO:Which company you r going to work for?
VO:Whats is your Designation?
VO:What is the project you r going to work?
VO:How many years of experience do you have?
VO:What are the companies you have worked?
VO:What is your qualification?
VO:Show me yours MCA certificate?
VO:Iam approving your Visa?

These are the simple questions posed to me.
So what i suggest is never get carried away that chennai consulate is tough or lady offcers are very strict.be cool and confident.
All the best for future aspirants.
