Hi

I am on an H 4 Visa and came to the US 4 months back.I have a Texas ID card and now have had to move to CT with my husband.

The problem is we were looking out for an apt and shortlisted one and when were finally going to move into it we were told my ssn would be required or else we wud have to pay a months fee as deposit(which may or maynot be paid back). now several indian families have moved in the same complex b4 us..the latest having moved 10 days back.

None of the wives had an ssn and this issue wasnt raised with any of them.

when my husband and I brought up this pt, we were told i could move in without paying the deposit but could not use any amenities in the apt complex...no access to gym fitness room pool etc.I could only do so if my husband accompanied me..

k..now we checked up with all othr indian families whoes wives are H-4 and no ssn. all the ladies have thr access cards et and face no such issue

so y in our case?this incident has been very disheartening.....we had to move out tomorrow...now we are stuck.

could anyone pl help?

Got H4
Hi all

Finally I got my H4 after a stressfull wait of about 3 months. In my H4 application process I have experienced that its not a difficult thing if you can have the documents required by the consulate. I applied first time after first week of my wedding and I had wedding photographs, my husband's H1 original documents and my husbands original passport. But the visa officer wanted to see annotation in the passports and marriage certificate. We got the annotation done and also got marriage certificate from a different Jurisdiction since we were married there and we applied for visa in Calcutta consulate. On reapplication the visa officer wanted to verify the authenticity of the marriage certificate and it took about 3 months to verify since it was from different jurisdiction. After the verification the Consulate called us and we were given the visa in 5 minutes without any questions. So the conclusion is:

1) Never apply without annotation and marriage certificate.
2) On further research we found out that the fastest process of getting a H4 is to have a court marriage. In this one of the spouse can apply for the petition even if the other spouse is out of country. After 30 days both of them can appear in court and get the court marriage done instantly. This court marriage proof is more than enough to get H4. So if you are planning a very short trip to India to get married and get your spouse over here; this may be the best option.

Good luck to all of you.

Papers
I went for my H4 interview at US Embassy Delhi. Normal questions were asked ,all my documents were properly checked.
I had travelled to Europe ,Dubai and SE Asia earlier , which helped. however I was asked some questions on my husbands W2 form. the 2 forms had some mismatch "as per the visa officer" so he put up the paper and said " Isnt it strange ...these figures dont match? "

I did not know about the W2 so I told him straight away that the documents were sent by my Husbands office in US Detroit, and my husband had also checked the papers. Im sure these are correct/proper documents..and then the officer said "oH Well, I guess it is a tax issue " and I got my vsa stamped
Clear talk and common sense also help..I have been filing my Indian Tax for the last 7 years , sometimes get confused !!So how would I know about W2 Forms in US!!!
Good luck to genuine visa applicants

H4 visa holder but also a student who seeks for a job...
Hello. My name is Julie and I am Canadian. I live in US since July 2003. My husband (also Canadian) holds a H1B and his now a permanent employee for the company he works for.
Since last February, I study at the California Culinary Academy in a Hospitality Management Program. I also have a Bachelor Degree in Communication that I got in 1998 in Canada.
Within the program I am attending at the CCA, there are credits extended with the completion of an externship in my field of sudy, which is hotel management. As I started my researches for potential extrernships, I realized that most of the hotels manager are not willing to have "volunteers" to work for free, especially big hotel chains, because they want to prevent themselves from legal issues with IRS departments, taxes and all that kind of things.

Then, what kind of work permit am I suppose to get in order to have the ability to work legally in the US and be able to finish the program I am in?
I have heard about the J visa but I red that you have to have some kind of prooves that you still have indeniable bonds with your country of origin, which I don't have anymore because I live here in the US with my husband for more than a year now...

What are my options ? Am I eligible for a TN visa even though the position I will probably have is not as a manager, but an entry-level position ?

I have been uselessly looking for an answer for a long time now... I really hope I knock at the right door with this email.
Please let me know any information that might help my situation.

Sincerely,

Julie
